Story
Athena may be shy right now, but her name carries the spirit of quiet strength. In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom and courage — qualities this beautiful border collie mix is just beginning to show as she settles into safety. She was rescued in the nick of time from a high&#226&#128&#145kill shelter where her days were running out. After such an overwhelming start, it’s no surprise she’s cautious with new people. But in her foster home, Athena is already adjusting, observing, and taking everything in with gentle curiosity. With patience and a calm environment, her confidence will continue to grow. We can already see the makings of a loyal, thoughtful companion who simply needs the chance to feel secure. Athena is a bit of an athlete so we recommend her home have a 6 ft. fenced in yard._________________________________________________________________________Adoption Donation for Athena is $ 525.00WANT TO MEET AthenaThe first step would be for you to go to our website at www.aear.org and then to the “Adopting a Pet” page to read about our Adoption Process which will answer many of your questions and then to fill out an Adoption Application. Also, please visit our very active Facebook Page for updates on Athena and our other adoptable pets with AEAR - www.facebook.com/aear.orgAll our animals available for adoption are living in foster homes. Story
Millie is a sweet dog who is looking to start a new chapter after her family could no longer keep her after they needed to move. We’re so glad they trusted us to help her find the perfect forever home. Millie is two years old and full of love. She’s a social butterfly with other dogs, enjoys long walks, and thrives when her mind and body are kept busy with fun activities. Bonus: she’s even shown interest in playing in the water! She’s lived with older teenagers and done well, but has not lived with younger children. She has also shown too much interest in cats, so she would prefer a cat-free home. Millie will be spayed and up to date on all vaccinations this week, and she’s already dreaming of the day she meets her new family. Interested in adoption? The first step is an application at paddyspaws.blogspot.com. Please do not apply if pets in the home are not up to date per our website requirements or are not altered. Our rescue adopts to Wisconsin and Illinois. Our requirements for Illinois applications are: excellent vet history, no children under 7 in the home, and an owned home. Wisconsin does not have these requirements, though we will not consider applications where pets are missing core veterinary care. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and once approved a meet and greet with the dog. Adoption fee is $250. Story
If you are looking for a sweet, soulful companion in a perfectly portable size, Diego is your guy. With his stunning tri-color coat and expressive eyes, Diego is beautiful inside and out. Despite a rough past, he has remained incredibly resilient and affectionate; his signature move is resting his paws on your chair and bowing his head to ask for ear scratches. He is a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be included in every family snuggle, curl up at your feet while you read, or supervise your cooking (just in case a scrap falls on the floor!).Thought to be around 8 yrs old, Diego is the definition of a polite house guest. He is 100% house-trained, signals when he needs to go out, and is so well-behaved that he doesn’t require a crate when left home alone. A homebody, Diego would prefer a quiet home with a yard (or at least a quiet neighborhood). He gets nervous on walks and in new situations and might bark at anything that moves. Being very food-motivated and attentive makes him easy to train. While he is generally quiet and easygoing, he does have a playful, curious side, especially when outdoor smells catch his attention.Diego is looking for a home where he can be loved like he deserves. He would do best in a home without cats and with adults or older children. While he is open to meeting other dogs, with slow introductions, he is currently neutral toward them and focuses mostly on his humans. If you are looking for a loyal, charming, and low-maintenance friend who has handled life’s challenges with total grace, Diego is ready to join your family.Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and to find out where this dog may be shown this weekend. We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog. Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess. Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
