Story
A FUN, PLAYFUL & ACTIVE GUY: Approx. 4 years old / Approx. 40 lbs. Hi, my name is Asher! Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control, & I'm very grateful. The volunteers are taken with my unusual breed mix, my handsome ginger brindle coat, & compact body. I bet you will be, too! I was selected to participate in the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience & learned a lot! Now I'm in a wonderful foster home, waiting for my people to adopt me! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I enjoy playing with & going for walks with other dogs I've met at Mostly Mutts, but I should not live with them as I have guarded toys & dog beds from them. I can be barky/reactive when I see other dogs—not to worry—my trainer will show you exactly how to introduce me to other dogs, so let's meet! / No cats! / I get a little excited to see children, so kids age 15+ would be the best fit for me, as I wouldn't want to bump over younger children & toddlers make me uncomfortable. So, if you have kids 15+ let's meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a sweet, happy & fun-natured guy who has earned the reputation of being 'goofy, quirky & funny'. I am full of playful energy & am not shy about speaking my mind if I see someone outside of my home, so an apartment/condo-type home would not be a good fit for me. I would love a backyard with a fence, as one of my favorite activities is chasing a ball. I will bring it back to you as long as you will throw it. My foster has realized that I am also very good at entertaining myself inside too. I'm the best office companion as I love hanging out under my foster's desk while she works. I'm very sweet, protective & fun—see the 'Likes' section below & read about my fan club! I'm also great in the shower or bathtub, when my foster gives me my bath. Affectionate & social with the people I've been properly introduced to, I have all the traits of a great companion. I, however, am not the kind of dog you would take to the kids' sporting events, or a busy park. I look forward to meeting all the members of my new home at my adoption! / My energy level is 6–8, so I am looking for a family member who will be active with me, playing ball & going for walks. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience so I've learned the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' & 'place' commands. I also use proper door etiquette & have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping when properly introduced. I can get distracted by sounds I hear on my walk that I don't recognize, so my trainer & foster tell me to 'leave it' to keep me on track on our walks. I'm so smart that my foster has taught me to lift each paw to be wiped off when coming back inside & not to come into the kitchen. Let's continue my training as there are more classes I can take through the free lifetime training that Mostly Mutts offers for their rescue dogs. / I did well in my little room at Mostly Mutts. In my foster home, I have perfect crate manners & easily go into my crate when my foster has to leave the house. I even put myself to bed at night, by going into my crate without being asked. My foster does crate me before workmen come to the home. / In my foster home, I have had wonderful potty manners with no accidents. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I LOVE treats, toys (especially rubber ones with deep squeakers), Nylabones & large squeaky tennis balls. A nice, fenced yard would be great for our play sessions. When it's time to relax, I enjoy lots of petting & cuddles, & I secretly believe I'm a lap dog, so don't be surprised if I climb up & give you a big hug with my paws on your shoulders as I love being close to my people. I also like my morning walks, though I'll need a strong walker since I'm a strong boy & can sometimes be reactive to people & other animals (though in my foster home I've improved so much at not being reactive to people). In fact, on our nice quiet neighborhood walks I'm thrilled to visit the neighbors who pet me, even pulling toward their houses—they are my fan club! A nice quiet type of neighborhood is just what I love. I absolutely love car rides, too! / I dislike thunder & bark at it a bit—like, hey quiet down up there! I previously reacted to the vacuum cleaner & doorbells, but I'm getting better at not chasing the vacuum cleaner & settle much quicker when the doorbell rings in my foster home. • MEDICAL: I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped & neutered. I should wear a muzzle or be pre-medicated when vetted & for nail trims as this can be pretty frightening to me. I may try to snack on my #2, but there are supplements that can help prevent that—also my foster just cleans it up, so I don't. I am looking for a dog savvy, loving family where I will be cherished!
