Story
Oscar Meyer is a 3.5 year old Dachshund mix with soulful eyes and a sensitive heart. After spending time in a foster home, he’s found himself back at the shelter and is hoping his next stop is truly forever. Oscar can be unsure with new people and needs a little time to warm up, but once he feels safe, his gentle and dainty personality shines through. He walks nicely on leash and enjoys calm companionship. He isn’t much interested in toys or playtime right now, he seems to prefer quiet connection over chaos. Oscar does have some resource guarding around food, so he’ll need an experienced adopter who understands how to manage this and help him continue building positive habits. He would do best in a home with teens and up who can respect his space. Oscar Meyer may be a little unsure at first, but with patience, structure, and understanding, he has all the potential to be a loyal little companion. He’s just waiting for someone to see the sweet dog behind those cautious eyes.If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York #longislandanimalshelter #dachshundmix #shortandsweet #rescuedachschund

Story
Meet Star ✨ – a shy but soulful Chiweenie puppy ready to bloom Star is a 5½-month-old Chiweenie who came to us from a hoarding situation. Because of her past, she is understandably very shy at first and needs a patient, experienced home that will give her the time and space she needs to feel safe. Star tends to bond more quickly with women, and once she trusts you, she is incredibly gentle, sweet, and devoted—a true little shadow who wants nothing more than to be near her person. When she feels comfortable, her personality really shines. She loves chew toys, enjoys playing, and absolutely thrives in the company of other dogs. Having a confident, social dog in the home is a must for Star. A doggy role model helps her build confidence and learn the routine of home life. She is potty trained, crate trained, and is generally quiet, rarely barking. Star loves to run and play in the yard, so a securely fenced yard is required, as she is still working on leash training. Star would do best in a calm home with teens or adults only, where her boundaries can be respected and her confidence can continue to grow. If you’re looking for a special puppy to nurture—one who will reward your patience with deep loyalty and love—Star could be the perfect addition to your family. APPLY HERE: www.pprct.org

Story
Given up through no fault of his own, handsome little Milo is all ready to rock your world! He is a very sweet Dashchund/Corgi mix who is gentle natured, adores petting, and will gladly sit in a comfy lap at any time! This boy is good with people and other dogs and is a nosy pup… always wanting to know what’s going on! Milo will bark when he wants to go outside or if he feels he is not being given enough attention. An apartment will not be a good environment for this guy. He will thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can run and play. He’s all ready for the wonderful forever home he deserves!Milo is a 2 years old, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. Due to his long luxurious coat, he will need frequent brushing. This guy is currently at our Atlas (Queens) location. If you would like to meet him , please fill out the adoption application on our website using a laptop or desktop (no phone or tablet, please) at https://bobbiandthestrays.org/adoption-page-new/.
