Story
Meet Elvis 💙
Elvis is a young, purebred piebald Dachshund. After losing his family and his canine companion, the world has felt a little overwhelming. He’s still learning who is safe and what’s normal.
Elvis is a deeply loyal, loving little shadow who bonds hard to “his person.” Once you’re in his circle, he wants to be near you at all times — following you from room to room, pressing up against you on the couch, and sleeping in (or next to) your bed at night.
Elvis is good with other dogs. He takes comfort in canine companionship and would thrive with a calm, confident dog in the home.
He is silly, affectionate, and enjoys chewing on antlers and Benebones. He proudly carries plush toys outside (and forgets them there).
Elvis barks at new people, especially when they first enter the home. His bark is his way of saying, “I’m scared.” He needs slow, calm introductions and an owner who understands that building confidence takes time. Once he realizes someone is safe, he settles.
Loud or sudden noises like vacuums and timers can startle him. Elvis would do best in a home with dog-savvy adults or older children who can respect his space and help him continue building confidence. A quieter home with predictable routines would help him feel secure.
He is doing great on his potty training! He goes outside to potty but will need continued consistency and patience to be fully housetrained.
Like many young dogs who lacked early structure, he has chewed a few inappropriate items, so supervision and guidance are important while he learns.
Elvis needs calm leadership, clear boundaries, and gentle exposure to new experiences. In the right home, he will blossom. Elvis needs someone willing to offer patience, structure, and reassurance. In return, you’ll get a devoted, loyal companion whose love runs deep.
If you believe in second chances and understand that confidence is built, not born, Elvis may be waiting just for you. 🐾💙
If you are interested in adopting Elvis, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Elvis's adoption fee is $800.
All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. [Pet Name] will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.
Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees; we are non-profit.
**Elvis is a Legacy Dog. Legacy Dogs are highly adaptable dogs that can assist other dogs in our rescue with their vetting bills.
Legacy dogs have a much higher desirability quotient. They're young, healthy and usually purebreds. These dogs leave a financial legacy for those animals who need extra help - whether they need extensive medical care or just a little more time to find a loving home.
(And they still cost less than going to a breeder!)
DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.
Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.
DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
