Story
Meet Elvis 💙
Elvis is a young, purebred piebald Dachshund with soulful eyes and a soft heart. After losing his family, he’s understandably unsure of the world — but underneath that uncertainty is a deeply loving, loyal boy who just wants his person.
Elvis is wonderful with other dogs and remains completely non-aggressive, even if another dog challenges him. He’s kind with kids and friendly with everyone he meets. He loves people and wants to follow you from room to room just to be near you.
He loves to snuggle and be close — though he’s not much of a blanket burrower. He prefers to press up against you instead. At night, he wants to sleep in your room.
Elvis enjoys chewing on antlers, Benebones, and plush toys. He’ll often proudly carry a toy outside with him — and then forget it in the yard. Fetch is still new and a bit confusing; if a toy is thrown, he’s more likely to look surprised than chase it. Squeaky toys, the oven timer, and the vacuum are new noises for him and make him nervous. He may run away from them, but he will come back around once they stop.
He will go outside to potty, but he’s not fully housetrained yet and will need consistency and patience while he learns. A belly band has been helpful and usually stays dry. Like many young dogs who haven’t had much structure, he has chewed inappropriate items (paper, eyeglasses, etc.), so he’ll need supervision and guidance as he learns what’s his and what’s not.
All of this simply tells us that Elvis was likely very sheltered and didn’t get the confidence-building exposure that most puppies receive. He is not difficult — he is just inexperienced. He’s already showing growth. With calm leadership, patience, and gentle exposure to new experiences, this sweet boy is going to blossom.
Elvis needs someone willing to help him discover the world safely. In return, you’ll get a devoted little shadow with a loyalty that runs deep.
If you believe in second chances and soft landings, Elvis may be waiting just for you. 🐾
If you are interested in adopting Elvis, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Elvis's adoption fee is $800.
All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. [Pet Name] will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.
Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees; we are non-profit.
**Elvis is a Legacy Dog. Legacy Dogs are highly adaptable dogs that can assist other dogs in our rescue with their vetting bills.
Legacy dogs have a much higher desirability quotient. They're young, healthy and usually purebreds. These dogs leave a financial legacy for those animals who need extra help - whether they need extensive medical care or just a little more time to find a loving home.
(And they still cost less than going to a breeder!)
DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.
Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.
DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
