Story
Rusty Wallace is a 4 year old dauchshund mix.   Rusty is house trained, cat and dog friendly, and enjoys human companions of all ages.  If in a home with children, they need to be older children that understand Rusty's needs noted below.   He loves car rides. He sleeps in bed with his human but will also sleep in a kennel. He loves to burrow so blankets are a must!   Rusty came back into rescue severally overweight.  You can see that in his before and after photo in his bio. He worked hard and is now back to a healthy weight and just needs to maintain.    Rusty requires a home with no steps or minimal steps. He is currently in a home that has mostly single steps and where there are two steps, he has a ramp. He had to have spinal surgery so limited steps are a must. Steps are also needed for him to get on and off the couch and bed.    Rusty has seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy.  He is taking meds three times a day to prevent them. The meds do cause him to be extremely needy. He is very vocal until his needs are met.    Rusty would not be a good fit for an apartment.   He is good with dogs his size or smaller.  He can't be with a bigger dog that is playful or has a lot of energy. f you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Rusty Wallace’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
Scout is a typical, handsome dachshund. He has random outbursts of energy, followed by several hours of napping until he’s ready to play again! He can’t think of anything better than playing fetch, although eating and sleeping are tied for second place. He will play fetch until you’re tired and then he’ll try to convince you to play just a little more. Scout is 3 years old. He’s potty trained, has nice house manners, is great in his crate, and good on a leash. He’s very athletic and likes to show off his skills. Scout is deaf and is learning to communicate with hand signs. Scout does not love the idea of being around other dogs. He would prefer being the only dog in the home with someone who doesn’t leave him alone all day. We know he’s going to become a loving pup, and to get there he will need someone willing to offer him lots of patience and socialization. He sure would like lots of walks and lots of fetch. No young kids, please. Scout requires a physical, fenced yard. This good-looking guy is being fostered in the St. Louis area.  Please fill out an application at: https://www.speakrescue.com/pre-adoption-form ##2698548##

Story
Meet Highland — proof that you can’t judge a dog by his silhouette. At first glance, you might think this unique dapple-coated pup has a little dachshund in him… but surprise! Highland actually has Great Dane in his mix. Somehow, all that big-dog DNA got packed into a smaller, delightfully quirky package — and the result is one of the most charming, conversation-starting dogs you’ll ever meet. Highland isn’t just about looks (though those certainly turn heads). He’s got a personality to match — funny, curious, and full of life. He’ll keep you smiling with his playful antics and win you over with his sweet, affectionate nature. He’s the kind of dog who makes every day a little more entertaining just by being himself. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind companion who will stand out in a crowd and steal your heart in the process, Highland is your guy. Come meet Highland and see for yourself — he’s even better in person. Highland's $220 Adoption Fee is a great deal. He is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, wormed & current on monthly heartworm preventative. Highland's estimated month of birth is 4/2025. Visit www.Pals-Pets.org to fill out a Pre-Adoption Questionnaire or call 314.581.6651 to schedule an appointment to meet this pet or any others here at the shelter.

Story
Peanut has a big dog personality and if he sees other dogs, he gets super excited, and the yipping sounds scary, but he just wants to play!! He's a nipper and he likes to jump on you out of excitement and although he LOVES kids, he should be in.a home with older kids Peanut is still young, and has plenty of energy to play and run.He has been known to be a runner- He will take off and think, it's a GAME and it will be hard to catch him, so careful at the doors nd fences ;) But smart sweet pup loves kisses and lay on your lap . He walks good on a leash i put 2 one on harness and collar since I don't want him to get loose. (harnesses are too easy to get out of, so a martingale collar is his best collar) He can upset a bigger or smaller dog if they don't have a tolerance for nippiness. In the face kinda of thing he loved to play and he runs super fast lol 😆 they would have to be extra careful that he never gets out of front.Door or takes off he laughing fast 😅 Poor little guy almost got run over on these big streets all alone, and we NEVER want that to happen to him again. So now you know more about the firecracker named Peanut. He is a doll!! ADOPT....DON'T SHOP!! Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $550 (includes tranport to your area)
