Story
Princess Emerald is a 6-year-old sweet extra-long dachshund and weighs 15 pounds.  Her foster Mom can't leave her soft ears alone and she loves to be petted and scratched. She wants to be with her person and wants to please. She is very smart and has learned the foster homes routine very quickly. She can be timid with the unexpected and will quick movements can startle her. She gets long with the calm, older dog in her foster home.  She is house broken if you let her out and she has used potty pads inside the home.  She had a doggie door in her previous home. Her favorite spot is inside on a big soft bed on the floor near her family. She needs a ramp for her to get on the couch or bed but with her long back she is probably better on the floor.  She is crate trained and will come when you call her name.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas. Story
#2 of the 6 Ice Cream Flavor Dogs Cookie Dough is a 3-year-old black and tan piebald dachshund and weighs 12 pounds, She and 5 other dachshunds, known as the Ice Cream Flavor dogs, were brought into Diamond Dachshund Rescue when her owner passed away.  Cookie Dough is shy and doesn't want to be picked up but will sit on your lap when you sit on the couch!  She will lay beside you in the big bed too!  Cookie Dough loves toys and chew bones.  She will play with a toy for a while.  She likes the other dogs in her foster home and wants to play when they go outside.  She will wrestle and wants to chase around the yard.  While Cookie Dough is good with adults, she isn't trusting enough of children. Since she was most likely not near them before, they make her nervous. Her best home would be one with no kids and most likely another dog to teach her further how to trust and feel safe.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas. Story
Layla is that teddy bear you wanted as a kid but never had. She is soft and very loveable. She also gives out love in spades. Layla has a healthy appetite as well as a trashy one, so make sure you keep that small trash can empty. The bonus if you do is, her kisses are the best and plentiful. If you have a ball, she’ll want it. Give it a toss to see her chase it and play. So joyful. She also enjoys walks, car rides, and all your attention. Layla gets along okay with most other dogs, at least the one smaller than her. She has seen a trainer for some prior issues, but those seem to be in the past. Layla would prefer to be an only dog in a home that doesn't have alot of traffic such as unknown guests. If it’s just you looking for a pal, she’s the one. So, what are you waiting for? Fill out that paperwork and give Layla that furever home Layla is a mix.  She weighs 22 pounds and is 7 years old. Story
Bonded Sister of Finley Robert Hi there! We are Emory (Emme) & Finley! I am Emme and I am the big sister. I am 8 years old and weigh13 pounds. My brother Finley is 7 years old and he weighs 19 pounds. We are Blue Isabella Dachshunds, and we don’t know you but we love you already. We love everyone! My little brother and I were surrendered to DDRTX due to our previous family having too busy of a schedule. We do have diluted color alopecia due to the type of dachshund we are but we don’t let that slow us down one bit! We are extremely happy, love attention, are great with kids, and are potty trained. We are not intimidated by a house full of children…we may be just as loud as they are. The more humans, the more people to love on us! My brother and I love being around humans and we do good with other dogs as well. We spend our days lounging on the couch, begging for pets, playing with toys, and snuggling with each other or the closest human around. If you would like to know more about us or meet us, make sure to fill out an application! A Note From Our Foster Mom – If you are looking for a silly and happy pair who throw the biggest welcome party every time you get home…then Emme and Finley are for you! These 2 are the sweetest dogs and are so easy to fall in love with.  They experienced a lot of alone time with their previous family so it’s like they have it all built up and clobber you with love. They take a little time to adjust but I can guarantee a lot of laughs, smiles, and cuddles with these 2 sweet & rambunctious siblings.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas. Story
Luna Rose is a 6 year old red female dachshund.  She weighs 13 pounds.  She is brand new to rescue.  She comes from a loving home but the family had some life changes and just couldn't give her the love and care she deserved, so they ask us to hep find her a new loving home.  She is in her foster home and so far we do know that she is crate trained and sleeps in it at night. She can be a little reserved at first but warms up quickly.  Her foster home does have children in it and she is now playing ball with them. They are taking things slowly with her trying not to overwhelm her but she is doing great.  Luna does so loooooooooove a game of fetch, then another game, and another!  It's so cute!!She didn't have much exposure to other dogs or cats previously but she is in a foster home with other dogs.  She is good with both but does seem to prefer the smaller one.  She is starting to show a tiny interest in playing with the smaller dog.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas. Story
#2 of 9 Country Music Stars Hank Williams is figuring out life in a loving, safe environment. While he is very cautious and slow to trust new people, he has already come a long way since he first arrived in foster care! He also still has a long way to go though, and he will need a very patient home with another playful, confident dog(s) and lots of TLC to heal the trauma of his past life.    Hank acts like two different dogs at the same time. Once he knows and trusts you, which takes a lot of time and patience, he is as happy, wiggly and affectionate as can be, seeking attention and giving kisses. But any loud noise, sudden movement, or unexpected/untrusted people can send him reeling back into his fearful state, hiding and barking in an effort to protect himself. He is very fearful of meeting new people and will need to be on a secure harness anytime he is outside, as he is very skittish.    More about Hank:    - Hank LOVES toys and romping with his young foster brother. He will need a confident, playful canine sibling in his ideal forever home.  - Hank reacts poorly when meeting new people, especially most men and young children. He still runs away from his foster dad and barks loudly at him whenever he walks from room to room or tries to give him a toy, but he will also seek snuggles from him occasionally when relaxing on the couch and has also begun taking treats from him. - Hank LOVES treats and meals, though he also still seems to have some anxiety around meal times. He eats very fast and sometimes throws up afterward, so a slow feed bowl is a good tool to help him slow down. - Hank is mostly house trained but not completely. He will need additional patience in a new home as he adjusts to the new environment and schedule.  - Hank is a very curious boy, but only when he feels very safe. He likes to investigate the dishwasher, look out of windows (so clear off anything you might have on a window sill he can reach haha!), poke around sniffing everything, and steal shoes.  - Hank absolutely needs to be on a harness when out for walks as he’s very jumpy outside. He does pretty well in the backyard, exploring and following the pack around.  - Hank currently has a love/hate relationship with his crate. We couldn’t get him to come out of it for the first week, but now he’s showing some anxiety around being crated when we leave. He will go in happily to eat but cries if we latch it.    Overall, Hank is a good boy just seeking comfort and love. He is still finding himself and learning about the world. With patience, love, and encouragement, we know he will blossom into an amazing companion for the person who chooses to invest in him!     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas.
