Story
Howdy y’all! I’m Raz––a handsome, sensitive soul looking for a fresh start after my previous owner sadly passed away. I’m a loyal and independent guy searching for a quiet, low-key environment. Recently, I’ve been loving my training boot camp at Lone Star State K9, learning how to be a polite pup and stay in my crate. I may be a cowboy, but that doesn’t mean my manners can’t be top-tier! Despite still being a puppy, I’ve been told I’m kind of an old soul… so I’d prefer hanging out in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy kids who respect boundaries; I love to be around my people, but I also just like my personal space sometimes! When it comes to other pets, I’ve got kind of a lone wolf attitude, and personally, I’d love to be your loyal one-and-only. My feelings have been hurt by other dogs before, but I’ve been doing a great job at camp learning how to dust off my boots and handle it. That doesn’t all mean this cowboy can’t get rodeo-rowdy. I love a good “bug tussle” with my person. If you’re looking for a total roly-poly, I’m your guy! I’m ready to retire from the range and be your loyal canine companion. Apply to adopt me today!

Hot diggity dog! Meet the new weenies in town: Smash Dog and Roadhouse Dog, lovingly named after our favorite orders at Sonic! After a rescue from a hoarding situation and a brief stint at the Hondo Animal Control shelter, these two little dachshunds made the drive down country roads to Old San Antone. With ears flopping and tails wagging, the two young’uns came to our office with nothing but each other and big dreams of finding their forever homes. Despite her bold name, Smash Dog has a laid-back attitude and a personality as sweet as honey. She’d love nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch with you after a trot around the neighborhood. Dachshunds like Smash require daily exercise and plenty of attention to run down their batteries each day, despite their short stature. What Smash Dog needs most, though, is a home where she can live out her days safely and comfortably, surrounded by lots of love. Do you have room in your heart for one looooong pup with one biiiiiig heart? Apply to adopt Smash Dog today!

Roadhouse Dog (or Roadie, if you’re one of his best buds) is a real sweetheart and a model big brother to his adoptive sister. As a Dachshund, Roadie is a playful and devoted doggie who adores attention. Despite his small size, he is best suited to an active lifestyle and a home with plenty of space to run down his battery each day. What he needs most, though, is a space where he can live out his days safely and comfortably, surrounded by lots of love. Do you have room in your heart for one looooong pup? Are you ready to take Roadie on the adventure of a lifetime? Apply to adopt today!

Story
Slim Jim is a 6–7-year-old, 17lb, Dachshund who has a larger-than-life personality. He may be paralyzed (fracture in his thoracic spine, assumed he was hit by a car), but that does not stop him one bit. He loves to play with other dogs and toys; he is also very cuddly with his humans. He is very determined and likes to be independent when he can, but he has some serious FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and thrives with being in everyone’s business. If you google “Dachshund personality”, you will see a description of Slim. He is loyal, affectionate, playful, and brave. He is also bossy, loud, mischievous, and bold. He can be hesitant with accepting new people, but he will accept the friendship if treats are offered. He is not a big fan of being held unless he knows the person (if he knows you, you can handle him however needed without issue), and he can be a bit naughty if he is passed over to someone that he does not know (primarily occurs in a veterinary visit setting). Given his Dachshund genetics and injury, this is understandable and easy to manage with treats, reassurance, and if all else fails, throw a blanket over his head. He does wear a male wrap throughout the day/night to keep him clean. He can poop and pee on his own, but his bladder and bowels are also expressed 4 times per day to ensure his bladder is fully emptied and prevent any poop accidents. Don’t worry, he is very easy to express and well behaved during the ordeal. He has been with his foster mom since the beginning of April and fit in with the dogs and cat immediately. He has met multiple other foster dogs while here and loves to introduce himself and insists on a game of some sort of play right away. He has assigned himself the job of designated greeter and is very devoted to this position. If you love the breed, you will love Slim and he will always have you smiling and laughing. He just needs a little extra care due to his injury.

Story
Sammy is a little 8# one year old Chiweenie. Sammy kept showing up at a school playground. He was always dirty and hungry. He was returned once to an identified owner who was advised that he needed to be contained, cared for in a safe manner and provided food and water. She seemed indifferent and disinterested. One Friday he showed up with patches of hair missing, tons of fleas, thin and very thirsty. At the school he loved the children, the teachers and just lounging in the gardens. He is a happy, fun and friendly little character. He loves attention and never seems to go far from his person. Sammy has had several different roomies all of whom have been twice his size and he has quickly made friends and has been able to run, play and rest with them. He has kept his room very clean and enjoys burying himself in his open kennel and peeking out in the morning. He can hurt your ears briefly with his little squeal of joy and at times don’t leave me squeal but it doesn’t last long. Sammy will be a great companion for any loving family. If you would like to meet him, please submit an application found on site below. He has been neutered, microchipped vaccinated, wormed and is Heartworm negative. Sammy’s adoption fee is $300.

Story
#2 of the 6 Ice Cream Flavor Dogs Cookie Dough is a 3-year-old black and tan piebald dachshund and weighs 12 pounds, She and 5 other dachshunds, known as the Ice Cream Flavor dogs, were brought into Diamond Dachshund Rescue when her owner passed away.  Cookie Dough is shy and doesn't want to be picked up but will sit on your lap when you sit on the couch!  She will lay beside you in the big bed too!  Cookie Dough loves toys and chew bones.  She will play with a toy for a while.  She likes the other dogs in her foster home and wants to play when they go outside.  She will wrestle and wants to chase around the yard.  While Cookie Dough is good with adults, she isn't trusting enough of children. Since she was most likely not near them before, they make her nervous. Her best home would be one with no kids and most likely another dog to teach her further how to trust and feel safe.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees.  DDRTX only adopts in Central/South Texas.
