Meet Moses, affectionately known as Lil' Mo—a sweet senior Dachshund with a heart as big as his soulful brown eyes. This distinguished little gentleman has mastered the art of taking life one cozy nap and one cuddle at a time. Moses is an old soul who appreciates the simple things: a soft bed, gentle affection, the company of other friendly dogs, and someone to remind him just how loved he is. Don't let his age fool you—Lil' Mo still has plenty of love to give. He's happiest when he's snuggled up beside his favorite people or quietly keeping canine companions company. His calm, gentle nature makes him the perfect sidekick for anyone looking for a loyal best friend who asks for nothing more than kindness, comfort, and a place to call home. If you've been searching for a faithful little companion to fill your days with quiet joy and unconditional love, Moses is ready to spend his golden years by your side. Story
Howdy y’all! I’m Raz––a handsome, sensitive soul looking for a fresh start after my previous owner sadly passed away. I’m a loyal and independent guy searching for a quiet, low-key environment. Recently, I’ve been loving my training boot camp at Lone Star State K9, learning how to be a polite pup and stay in my crate. I may be a cowboy, but that doesn’t mean my manners can’t be top-tier! Despite still being a puppy, I’ve been told I’m kind of an old soul… so I’d prefer hanging out in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy kids who respect boundaries; I love to be around my people, but I also just like my personal space sometimes! When it comes to other pets, I’ve got kind of a lone wolf attitude, and personally, I’d love to be your loyal one-and-only. My feelings have been hurt by other dogs before, but I’ve been doing a great job at camp learning how to dust off my boots and handle it. That doesn’t all mean this cowboy can’t get rodeo-rowdy. I love a good “bug tussle” with my person. If you’re looking for a total roly-poly, I’m your guy! I’m ready to retire from the range and be your loyal canine companion. Apply to adopt me today!

Hot diggity dog! Meet the new weenies in town: Smash Dog and Roadhouse Dog, lovingly named after our favorite orders at Sonic! After a rescue from a hoarding situation and a brief stint at the Hondo Animal Control shelter, these two little dachshunds made the drive down country roads to Old San Antone. With ears flopping and tails wagging, the two young’uns came to our office with nothing but each other and big dreams of finding their forever homes. Despite her bold name, Smash Dog has a laid-back attitude and a personality as sweet as honey. She’d love nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch with you after a trot around the neighborhood. Dachshunds like Smash require daily exercise and plenty of attention to run down their batteries each day, despite their short stature. What Smash Dog needs most, though, is a home where she can live out her days safely and comfortably, surrounded by lots of love. Do you have room in your heart for one looooong pup with one biiiiiig heart? Apply to adopt Smash Dog today!

Story
This sweet pup is part of a large rescue intake after a local animal lover sought help managing over 30 dogs. While completely new to the great outdoors, these well-loved pups have one major thing going for them: they absolutely L-O-V-E people and are eager to bond with everyone they meet! Toast is a Dachshund mix who is an absolute sweetheart; she loves nothing more than being as close to her human friends as possible. She has had limited experience with a leash and is working hard to develop her leash skills! While starting with limited leash exposure might seem challenging, rescue dogs are remarkably resilient! With a little patience and love, Toast will adapt quickly to leash walks and routine, making the bond you build together even more rewarding. Our team of staff members and fosters are busy helping them all learn the ropes of outdoor adventures, but what this pup needs most is a home to call their own. Fully vetted and overflowing with affection, Toast is ready to step into a bright future with you. Open your heart and home by submitting an adoption application today!

Roadhouse Dog (or Roadie, if you’re one of his best buds) is a real sweetheart and a model big brother to his adoptive sister. As a Dachshund, Roadie is a playful and devoted doggie who adores attention. Despite his small size, he is best suited to an active lifestyle and a home with plenty of space to run down his battery each day. Story
Meet Nubs! Nubs was rescued from the ACS euthanasia list earlier this year. He’s approximately 2 years old, updated on all shots, neutered, great with kids, other dogs and cats. He is missing his front left paw and his front right paw is slightly deformed but that doesn’t stop him! He’s just a little clumsy. 😅 Unfortunately one of our 3 dogs cannot get used to him. He constantly attacks him, leaving Nubs terrified. We’ve tried everything we could but our hands are tied as our work schedules have changed and it’s stressing out all of our animals. Unfortunately, it seems like Nubs has had a difficult start to life, he does take a little bit to feel comfortable and safe but once he does his goofy personality comes out. We feel like he’d thrive in a household with other animal siblings (who are sweet to him) but most importantly just someone to smother him with pets, treats, patience and love. He’s such a sweet boy and we want the absolute best for him.
