Story
🐶 🐕 SKITTLES Female 2 1/2 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE Husky / BC mix – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 SKITTLES was a great mom to her 10, yes 10, awesome Sweets and Treats puppies, and now she is ready for her forever home. Once her babies were adopted SKIT really began to shine. She has come a long way from the pancaking, pregnant, and shy gal to the protective, correcting mom, to a friendly, outgoing gal we foster parents love. She gets along well with people and other dogs. She’s been fine around the cats, but with her husky bloodlines we’d still caution against a home with cats. SKITTLES is about 2 1/2years of age, 52 lbs., with a thick medium coat. SKITTLES is crate and house trained. She has not pottied in the house since her “mom” days. She is now very comfortable in her crate (home and travel) during down and overnight sleep time. She knows “crate” and willingly goes in on her own as she knows it’s either meal or treat time. She knows sit, does ok with down, and has excellent recall even when distracted by people or dogs at the park next door. We are working on “off” as she likes jumping up (gently) on people, and does her share of licking the counters clean (we ensure no food is left for her to get) but responds well to direction. SKITTLES, after proper introductions, does well with people and other dogs. Once she trusts, she trusts completely. Treats and patience are the way to SKITTLES’s heart. She sits politely for pets, but she is not overbearing. When you stop she’ll find a dog bed or a spot on the floor and patiently wait for the next round...and the next…and the next. SKITTLES is happy inside or outside, wherever she has companionship. Sun, rain, snow…nothing deters her. She is happiest when her people accompany her outside (she’ll chase a ball or play keep away with a stick) and is almost as happy playing with her foster siblings. She especially enjoys Perkins, who plays to her energy level. She’d prefer a “Perkins-like” four legged companion to help her burn off energy, but would be fine as an only dog if you include yourself in all her activities, and she in yours. The more SKITTLES is included in your activities the quicker the bonding will occur. SKITTLES is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about SKITTLES, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. SKITTLES is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.

Story
🐶 🐕 CRUZ Male Border collie mix approximately 4 ½ - 5 years, 40 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet CRUZ, a handsome 4 ½ to 5-year-old, 40 pound, smooth-coated black-and-white boy with classic border collie markings. A sweet, happy boy, he immediately takes to people. In fact, his favorite place to be is with people. He needs nothing more than a human to pet him, and a lap in which to drop his head, to be content. He is comfortable and enjoys the outdoors, but CRUZ has a strong drive to be inside where he can be safe, warm (or cool), secure, and near his family. CRUZ can go from content-to-simply-hang-with-his-human to playing a rousing game of fetch in a finger-snap. Most times he will bring the ball back to you and drop it or let you take it from his gentle mouth. And when you tire of tossing, he switches off his BC boy energy and settles back into hang out mode, often joining his foster dad on the outside bench for cuddles and pets.   CRUZ likes toys and sticks, well, really, more like branches, and when our puppy Una was here, he had nonstop fun playing tug with her. He gets along well with all the other dogs in his foster home. Sometimes he can be a little forward in his play, so the temperament of the other dog(s) in his home will matter, though he seems naturally gentler with smaller dogs like our little chihuahua house guest. While he would enjoy the company of another dog, he’d really love to be the only one so he gets all the attention. He has become increasingly interested in the cats, and not in a good way. Cruz will need a cat-free environment. CRUZ has some medical issues. He is mildly incontinent (controlled with medication). CRUZ will also require a low protein diet. We are happy discuss these issues further, and we can even share lab results, particularly if you’d like to discuss with your veterinarian.  CRUZ is smart, having learned to negotiate the doggy door very quickly and to walk nicely on the short leash walks he takes in his foster home. He also enjoys longer walks and could be a good running partner. CRUZ is mostly praise, but also treat motivated, which should make his continued training fun. CRUZ is crate trained. He has made great progress on his housetraining. If you are looking for a devoted companion that loves to be loved on, a fun-loving boy who is a joy to train and play with, and love petting your pup, then please consider giving CRUZ his forever home. CRUZ is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about CRUZ, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. Border Collie Australian Cattle Dog

Story
🐶 🐕 KAMMIE Female Border collie / Aussie mix approximately 2 – 3 years, 45 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Check out her video at Meet lovely KAMMIE. KAMMIE is a medium-rough coat, red and white border collie / Aussie mix, 2-3 years old. KAMMIE has medium to low drive, but her BC genes might become more pronounced with time as she’s had some adjusting to do. She is cautious around new people, especially men, but as time goes on, she warms up more quickly and becomes a love bug, giving kisses and begging for pets and attention. We’re considering KAM-MIE a bit of a “special needs” foster as her new human(s) should expect a period of her developing comfort, confidence, and familiarity with her new environment. That said, KAMMIE has shown no signs of aggression, rarely barks, and will be a loving and loyal family member for the one who is patient to give her the time she needs to adjust and trust. Since she has been in rescue, KAMMIE has developed fairly dependable recall, sitting attentively after she returns to you. She is extremely yet cautiously affectionate and prefers to be very close by her humans when they’re around. KAMMIE is perfectly behaved on leash and loves the daily walks/runs we take around the neighborhood with her foster sisters. She tends to have the zoomies in the mornings when the dogs are kicking up their feet, making sure all the squirrels have been chased away. KAMMIE is a polite guest and is not a nuisance at all. She is dependable to stay close to the pack when out and about. Loud noises and frenetic activity still startle and affect her, so a calmer, friendly environment would be key. She has benefitted from the stability and assurance that our dogs have provided her, so we believe a companion dog with a suitable demeanor could be helpful but not necessary. She has not been tested around cats or small children. KAMMIE currently weighs 45 lbs. (down from 51) but could easily lose five more with continued exercise and controlled meal amounts. She loves food and could eat all day if we let her, so we believe she will be treat-motivated as well. Obedience training will be somewhat delayed until her new humans develop a trusting bond with her, whereby she will be more apt to learn and please. KAMMIE strongly prefers to sleep in a dog bed or on the floor vs. a crate, so we’ve ac-commodated her. However, she remains fearful of car rides so providing a crate for car rides is a must. Although not an issue after a few days, she initially had anxiety when released into our backyard and paced looking for possible escape routes. She had easily scaled a four- foot fence in a previous stopover, so potential adopters must have at least a six foot, no-climb fence to keep her safe as she gets to know her new home. She hasn’t had a potty accident at all in her four-week stay, so we can presume she is totally house-trained. KAMMIE is an endearing dog, who will blossom over time in her forever home. Love and patience will be, of course, important, but also experience in socializing and training a dog that needs to grow in confidence and a sense of safety. She has already made progress in these areas in her foster home but will need to build trust with her new family. KAMMIE is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about KAMMIE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. KAMMIE is being fostered in Redding, Shasta County, CA.

Story
🐶 🐕 PIRELLI Female Border collie mix approximately 6 months, 36 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Meet our sweet girl, Pirelli. She is a 6-month-old 36#, BC/Aussie mix with very pretty tri-color markings, and a cute little bobbed tail. Pirelli came in as a stray who was picked up by animal control near a tire store with her 3 littermates, so they all got tire names: Pirelli, Toyo, Apollo and Firestone! Pirelli's favorite thing is her person. She wants to be near her person most of the time. A very close second favorite thing is her foster brothers and sisters. She gets along well with dogs of all sizes and loves to play and wrestle. She would do well with another dog also likes to play. She would also be fine as an only dog as long as she gets plenty of attention and exercise. Pirelli is a little bit curious about the cat in her foster home, but she does not chase and is respectful of the cat, so she would very likely be OK in a home with dog savvy cats. Pirelli is a medium to high energy young girl who needs daily exercise and mental stimulation. After a walk or a romp in the yard with the other dogs, she will settle nicely for a few hours, then want to go play again later in the day. She loves plush toys and chew toys but and is starting to show interest in a ball. She will chase the dog who is chasing the ball! She also loves the water and is a great swimmer. Pirelli can be somewhat shy meeting new people or in new situations. She needs a little extra time to get used to new things or people. She will warm up to new people after a short time, if they go slow and let her approach them. Pirelli needs a home where she can learn to gain confidence in the outside world. Since she is still young, her foster mom is confident that she can overcome this with patience and time. She is crate trained and sleeps quietly in her crate at night. She is OK being crated for a few hours while her foster mom is away, but she will whine a bit when being crated during the day. She is potty trained and uses the dog door to go out when needed. Pirelli knows some basic commands like sit and come. She is very treat-motivated and pays attention to her person. She is working on her leash skills. She is also working on loading up in a car. She needs a little help getting in, but once she is in the car and clipped into her harness/seatbelt clip, she rides quietly in the car. Pirelli is a super sweet, soft girl who would make a wonderful companion for someone who wants to be with their dog most of the time. She would not do well being left alone for long periods of time. She has been a very well-mannered house guest and has not chewed anything inappropriate. She is allowed run of most of the house while super-vised. Pirelli is ready for her forever family! PIRELLI is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about PIRELLI, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration. PIRELLI is being fostered in Folsom in Sacramento County, CA.
