Story
* RUGER IS NOT AT UPAWS *Ruger is an 8 year old German Shepherd. He is the best adventure buddy, and lives for the outdoors, hiking, running, the lake, and snow especially. His favorites are sticks and tug a war, could happily play fetch all day. Ruger loves people, any chance to hangout with you on the couch, or outside he is there. He rides well in the car, not reactive to loud noises/storms. Good with younger children, teens, young adults. Has not been around cats before. He is good with dogs as long as they have been introduced properly. After a good exercise, he is a relaxed guy who just wants to be near you!If interested please contact Chloe at 734-790-8380 or chloeselkhoury@gmail.com!

Story
Dutch is a striking, neutered male German Shepherd with the classic shepherd presence — attentive, intelligent, and deeply devoted to his people. He bonds strongly with his family and takes that connection seriously. Dutch is both protective and friendly, the kind of dog who wants to be near his people and share in their daily life. Whether it’s a long hike, a car ride, a game of fetch, or relaxing on his dog bed after a full day, Dutch is happiest when he’s included. He walks well on leash, is kennel trained, and enjoys squeaky toys, tennis balls, pig ears, and interactive play. He’s been around other dogs and may enjoy canine companionship, though introductions should be thoughtful as he can be enthusiastic and direct when meeting.Dutch is a loving boy who thrives with structure and clear communication. Because he can be sensitive with certain handling — especially around his hips — we recommend a home with respectful older children (approximately 12–14+) and a family comfortable reading dog body language and providing consistency. He does have some hip discomfort and takes a joint supplement with fish oil to help keep him comfortable.Dutch is emotionally aware, deeply loyal, and happiest when he feels safe and understood. In the right home, he will be a steady, devoted companion and true partner. If you think Dutch may be the right fit, we encourage you to bring your family — and any dogs in the home — to meet him and see if it feels right for everyone.

Story
Andre is a striking young Husky, about two years old, with beautiful blue eyes and a gentle, sensitive nature. He came to us as a stray, and while the shelter world can feel overwhelming for him at times, Andre shows us more of himself each day — especially once he’s outside and begins to feel comfortable with the person beside him.Andre is a thoughtful dog who takes his time learning to trust. Calm voices, patience, and quiet reassurance help him feel safe. As he settles in and begins to relax, you see the softer side of this sweet boy — a dog who simply needs stability, understanding, and a chance to belong. While we do not know what his life was like before coming to us, we hope his future will be bright and filled with kindness.Andre has shown respectful interest in other dogs and may enjoy a calm canine companion with gentle introductions. He would do best in a steady, patient home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace.Andre has been selected as Deb’s Dog of the Month for February, a special program in memory of Deb Danielson. Through this sponsorship, Andre’s adoption fee and additional pet care support will be covered — helping him start his new life with a little extra love behind him.If you have a soft spot for shy dogs and believe in the beauty of earning a dog’s trust, Andre may be waiting for you.As always, we recommend bringing all household members — including resident dogs — to meet Andre to help ensure the best possible match.

Story
Buffalo has come a long way or the past year. I can`t even imagine what his life was like before he was rescued. He was found tied up outside not being fed. His first few days at UPAWS his bowel movements were sand. He has put on about 30lbs. He lived with two dogs while with me. They have passed. We have been together 1 year. He is food driven , but not food aggressive. I use treats as a training tool meeting dogs. He has been perfect in the house. Buffalo is a INDOOR dog. He does not counter surf or dig in the trash or yard.. He does not get on the furniture or beds. He knows sit and lie down. He has free roam of house. I have never had to try a kennel. He is extremely affectionate towards people and seeks affection. He walks well on a leash. He is reactive to some dogs when meeting. He does eventually warm up to some. Its something we are working on. Buffalo has a good recall off lead. Needs to be on lead when other dogs are around. Once he knows a dog he does well. This is a difficult decision. I love Buffalo, he is my best friend. I have serious health issues and need to find him a loving home that will spoil him and give him a loving home he so much deserves ? Buffalo has a vet appointment on 12/29/25 for his yearly check up/vacancies.**** Buffalo is not at Upaws*****If you are interested in Buffalo please contact:MarkPhone number: 906-440-2726Email: treadomt@gmail.com
