**Please read Sky's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application. Thank you!**
The sky's the limit with this one! Meet Sky, a 5-year-old German Shepherd mix, weighing 70 pounds (as of 1/25/26)! This happy-go-lucky lady was found as a stray on the streets of Tennessee but hopes to liven your darkest days with her heroism and smile!
This sweet girl is very smart and very trainable. In fact, she's preparing to join the Avengers on their next mission so Sky will need an active home where her owners will have time to work with her and take her on long walks or even hikes. When she's not fighting the forces of evil or saving helpless civilians, Sky is constantly on the search for her next job whether that's walking, being a hiking buddy or a cuddle buddy!
Sky is eager to please her person and truly loves everyone she meets. While she doesn't have any experience with kiddos, we think she'll be fine since she loves her people. Sky has also lived with dogs of all sizes! She does tend to chase cats so she'd probably be good in a home without them. Sorry kitties! No hard feelings. Sky is great with leashes but isn't as fond of crates (it's basically her Kryptonite) but her foster says she doesn't need a crate as she does great and behaves well. Sky hopes to learn commands at her future home so she can fight against the forces of evil!
The only thing Sky asks from her future family is patience as she adjusts to your home. Sometimes she'll pace and do laps in the yard when she first comes to a home, but she'll eventually settle down (which is common in German Shepherds). Think of it as her scoping out the area for any bad guys! Also, loud noises such as the vacuum will make her pace and be on the alert. Who needs a security system, when you've got Sky right at home!
Sky does have a little stub of a tail due to it being amputated, but it just makes her that more adorable especially when she wags it! This girl's a fighter and she's happy to show off her battle scars.

This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally.
PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT.
If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
