Story
I'm Otto, a dignified German Shepherd with a heart full of loyalty and a mind as sharp as a tack. Life with me is like having a faithful companion by your side through thick and thin, ready to protect and serve with unwavering devotion. As a German Shepherd, I take my role as guardian seriously. I'm highly intelligent and deeply loyal to my humans, making me the perfect partner for anyone seeking a reliable and steadfast companion. Whether it's going for long walks in the park or curling up by your feet at the end of a long day, I'm happiest when I'm by your side. Now, I'll be honest - I'm not always the best around cats. Their quick movements and unpredictable behavior can sometimes trigger my natural instincts, and I prefer the company of humans or other dogs who can appreciate my protective nature. But if you're looking for a furry friend who's equal parts loyal and loving, then look no further. So what do you say? Are you ready to welcome a German Shepherd with a heart as big as the great outdoors into your home? If you're looking for a four-legged companion who's always up for an adventure and never short on love, than I'm your guy! Can't wait to meet you and start our next great adventure together!

Story
Toby here! Can you hear me? I can hear you with my large radar ears. Some say they are my cutest quality but there is so much more to me than just my ears, read on to see if we are a match! Toby is a 4 year old 52 lb shepherd mix. He is a smart boy   who has had professional training so has all of his basic commands down pat. Toby has shown some guarding behaviors in the past so an owner who can be his pack leader is needed. He has lived with children though and gets along with all humans big and small. He has been living as an only dog in his home, so we are unsure if he could live with another dog, but that’s what meet and greets are for! Cats are unknown at this time. Toby is house and crate trained, but he is such a good boy he can be trusted outside of the crate when home alone.   He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and preventatives and a heartworm survivor! Toby will be waiting in East Earl, PA. Get your application in and once approved you can meet this sweet boy and fall in love.  New Oxford PA 17350; LIC # 9736 We are PA Caring for K-9's, an all-breed dog rescue that is solely run by volunteers. Most of our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in the South. If the dog is posted, they are still available! Once arriving, these dogs enter foster homes, as we do not have a shelter. We cannot adopt out dogs to a home with dogs that are not fixed or up to date on shots. If interested in adopting, please submit an application online at www.pack9rescue.org. Our adoption fee for altered dogs is $350 and goes directly to saving the lives of more dogs.  Our adoption fee for unaltered puppies will be $400 which includes a refundable $50 deposit upon receipt of spay/neuter certificate. Story
Dear Friends, Meet Guts, our beloved (1.5 year old) German Shepherd. Due to recent life changes, we find ourselves in a situation where we must rehome him. It’s a decision that weighs heavily on our hearts, but we believe it’s in Guts’ best interest. Our living environment has become cramped, and Guts deserves room to stretch his paws and explore freely. He loves to run around large open environments, and our property is not ideal for his need to explore and run. We also have other animals in the house that do not like him or appreciate his presence. Guts is very loyal and curious. He loves to walk around each room to see what everyone is up to. He enjoys lettuce and other leafy greens, and his favorite treat are ice cubes. He needs space to explore and run around. We cant always provide him with that so he gets frustrated with us sometimes. I wish to see him paired with someone who absolutely loves dogs and understands how big dogs work. He is a big boy and needs a good leader.

Story
Adopted from rescue at 4 months old. Had medical issues. She just turned 3 years old on March 22nd. Sweet, affectionate dog. Great with dogs, kids, and cats. Has been sick for a year, cannot get her to gain weight. Believed she has IBS. Allergic to chicken and grains. Has crohnic diarrhea. Can mainly only eat salmon type food. Once healthy she will be a fun, energetic, playful and loving companion. I just don't have the funds available to give her what she needs and want to give her a chance with someone who can get her back to herself.

Story
Say hello to Kaya! Kaya came to us as a stray in August 2023 and is ready to find her forever home! This sweet pup loves attention and loves everyone she meets! Kaya is as affectionate as they come and enjoys nothing more than snuggling up close to someone and getting all the attention she can. Playing fetch is a close second! Kaya needs nothing more than a tennis ball or squeaky toy and is happy to bound after anything tossed for her! Kaya does well on the leash and also enjoys playing in the yard. She LOVES her toys and is more play motivated than treat motivated. This pretty girl currently knows sit and down! Kaya would do best as the only animal in her forever home. She does well with the children she has met here at the shelter but sometimes does not realize her size when she is looking for love and will occasionally smush herself against you if she is looking for kisses or butt scratches. If Kaya sounds like she would be a good fit for your home, stop by and meet her today! Kaya is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Availability date: 09/26/2023

Story
Xena is a very intelligent purebred Shepard, just recently spayed. She’s also microchiped which all information will be transferred to the new owners. She’s a super loving goofy outgoing dog, loves the water, pools, the bathtub you name it. If you have kids, I recommend not letting her in the bathroom as the moment you turn around she will be in the bathtub with them .. she’s extremely good with young children as she has grown up with her two toddler brothers. Does very well with all dogs, we have never tested her around cats.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.NOTE- ROCKY IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION.  PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Here's what the humans have to say about me: ADOPT OR FOSTER!Are you loyal, driven, motivated, optimistic, and like to have a good time? So is Rocky! He may be your soulmate! Rocky was un-familied twice in his 7-year life. He craves a companion who won’t do that to him again. He needs to be someone’s sidekick. He loves people and has never met a stranger. He enjoys a car ride, and a nice long walk. His fave snack seems to be beef jerky, but he’s happy to try your other foods, too. He’s crate-trained and potty-trained and lives well in a home.He doesn’t mind dogs in public and is not reactive, but can’t live with other dogs as he get a bit guardy around them and starts fights. He also has high prey drive and can’t live with small animals or cats. He has met my horse and goats and has been fine, so could likely live around large animals after supervised introductions.Apply at https://highlandcountyhumanesociety.orgIncluded in Adoption: All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated - Da2pp, Bordetella and Rabies, tested for HW/Lyme, dewormed and started on HW/Wormer monthly prevention (Interceptor Plus), and treated for flea/tick control (Advantix). Dogs are also micro-chipped and adoption includes lifetime registration. Also included in the adoption is 30 days of Pet First Pet Insurance, and Petco's Free Welcome to the Family Program. This program supports All New Pet Parents and offers Free resources, more than $650 in savings and 24/7 support.Apply online:https://www.highlandcountyhumanesociety.org/available-animals/To contact us, please send an email or FB message to:Email: info@highlandcountyhumanesociety.orgWebsite: www.highlandcountyhumanesociety.orgFaceBook: www.facebook.com/HighlandHumaneHCHS is 100% foster and volunteer based (no staff, no employees).
