Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!UPDATE 3/5/2024:  Buddy is having some issues being 'stiff' but as long as you don't have stairs he does great.  He does guard his toys but if you do a trade with a snack he will give them up :)  Looking for a GS experienced ownerUPDATE:  Buddy is looking fantastic!!  He is a little 'stiff' in his old age but I told him its OK so am I!  He LOVES attention, he likes his toys and he is great with the dogs although I think he would be just as happy as an only dog he does fine with all the dogs here at the ranch :)I can only imagine how Buddy must have felt...  Like no one cared, defeated, ready to give up, a banquet for fleas and tics :(  It took us quite a while to get him back to health and still he deals with ear infections from repeated ones not being treated :(  No worries now big man you are loved and valued!Buddy you have your 2nd Chance and we are going to give you an amazing life!!REQUIRES FENCED YARD!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!April 15, 2024, 12:36 pm

Story
Hi there, I'm Kamala! I am a vivacious pup looking for my furever home. I am old enough that I have outgrown my puppy behaviors but not too old for adventures and playtime. I am very social with people and enjoy getting lots of attention and affection. However, I am not a big fan of children so I ask that any kids in the home be 13 and older. I may do well with another dog with proper introduction. I'm not sure how I feel about cats but I'm also willing to give it a try. I hope that I can find my family who will cherish me and give me the life I so deserve. I will certainly give back all the love, loyalty, and companionship I have to share. Do you think I could be the one for you?---If you are interested in adopting, please come prepared --bring a photo ID, proof of address, and everyone in the home including resident dogs with vaccination history. We are open daily 12-6pm.---The Pennsylvania SPCA - Lancaster Center848 S. Prince St. Lancaster PA 17603Kennel #16516717-917-6979lancaster@pspca.org

Story
Leon is a 3 years old, September. I rescued him at 6 months old. He has separation anxiety and whines quite a lot if left unattended. Very vocal when it comes to wanting attention or on guard to protect household. We are expecting in October and will be unable to give him the dedication he deserves. With a household of 2 small children, baby on the way and 2 parents working full time. We have our hands full. We find ourselves not being able to give him the attention he needs. Looking for an experienced adopter who specializes in rescues and/or special needs required. Someone willing to dedicate time. Leon tries to be the alpha in the household. Stern love and physical affection, rough play dog. He is very sweet and loving but requires a lot of physical attention and physical activity. Adoption fee up for discussion, just looking for someone to not give up on him and provide happy healthy home.

Story
Hazel is currently in training with the HOPE program so she can be her very best doggie self for her new family. You can keep up with all the things she is learning here, get ready to be impressed: https://www.hopedogs.org/dogs/hazel/ Are you looking for a new adventure partner to help you achieve your New Year resolution to become more active? Hazel is the perfect dog for you! She loves exploring on walks and loves playing with tennis balls even more! Hazel came to us after some concerned neighbors reached out trying to find a better home for her. Hazel would love to have a fenced in yard where she can run around and play fetch! She hopes her new family doesn't mind her ball obsession, but she has been learning to return the ball when playing so we can throw it again for her - she's a smart one! Hazel is young (2-3 years old) and has a lot of energy, so she is looking for an active family that can take her on hikes, long walks, and other outdoor adventures! She has even tried her paw at agility training and absolutely loves it! Once given the chance to exercise Hazel also loves a good snuggle. Hazel is the perfect size, about 50 lbs. A family with working dog experience is preferred. Hazel would do well in a home with older children that are dog savvy. She does have a very strong prey drive, so a home without cats and other small animals is needed. Hazel has been dog selective, but we think a home where she is your one and only pet would be best. If you are local to the Dillsburg area, and interested in meeting Hazel, please visit our website, www.crcpa.org, to learn more about our adoption process and complete an application.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This remarkable dog was discovered abandoned in a rural area where he had endured exposure to the rain for an indeterminate period. Concerned passersby initially suspected he was injured, but upon my arrival, he eagerly hopped into my car and indulged in an entire box of treats. He's proven to be the most entertaining, affectionate, and intelligent companion I've ever encountered. His teeth bear the marks of neglect rather than age-related wear, and we estimate his age to be around 4-5 years. He adores car rides, and walks, and remains a loyal, dependable companion who never strays far. He is fully house-trained, adept at using a pet door, and gets along famously with other dogs. One of his ears has a distinctive appearance due to a past illness or injury that went untreated, but our vet has addressed it, and it appears to be in good condition now, although it will retain its unique appearance. If you're interested in welcoming Knuckles or any of our Funny Farm friends into your home, please visit funnyfarmpets.org to learn more about our Tennessee-based rescue, the adoption process, the comprehensive vetting procedures these pets undergo before they come to your home, and to submit an adoption application. The adoption fee for this pet is $325, and an additional $200 is required for transport. Currently located in a foster home in Tennessee, this pet will be transported to a northern location after the adoption process is finalized. For details on meeting locations and the transport process, please visit the transport tab at funnyfarmpets.org.

Story
Dear Friends, Meet Guts, our beloved (1.5 year old) German Shepherd. Due to recent life changes, we find ourselves in a situation where we must rehome him. It’s a decision that weighs heavily on our hearts, but we believe it’s in Guts’ best interest. Our living environment has become cramped, and Guts deserves room to stretch his paws and explore freely. He loves to run around large open environments, and our property is not ideal for his need to explore and run. We also have other animals in the house that do not like him or appreciate his presence. Guts is very loyal and curious. He loves to walk around each room to see what everyone is up to. He enjoys lettuce and other leafy greens, and his favorite treat are ice cubes. He needs space to explore and run around. We cant always provide him with that so he gets frustrated with us sometimes. I wish to see him paired with someone who absolutely loves dogs and understands how big dogs work. He is a big boy and needs a good leader.
