Story
Tessa has been a beloved part of our family since she was a puppy. Now 8 years old, she’s a steady, intelligent German Shepherd who deserves a peaceful home where she can truly thrive. As much as it breaks our hearts, the reality is that with our growing family and increasing work demands, we can no longer give Tessa the calm environment she needs. She is anxious around small children, and our busy household has become overwhelming for her. Tessa urgently needs a quieter, child-free home with someone who understands the loyal and sensitive nature of her breed. She is deeply loving, independent, and playful when she feels safe and at ease. While she’s not a lap dog, she forms strong bonds and wants nothing more than to be near her people. We are desperate to find her the right match—someone who will give her the time, patience, and companionship she deserves in her senior years. Tessa still has so much love and loyalty to give.

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Charlotte the German Shepherd mix…what a beauty! Here’s info from her foster mom- Charlotte is a very sweet dog. She gets along with all the other dogs in the house. She has seen the cats and is curious but just watches them. She is not much of a barker. She loves to be right next to or in your lap. I believe she will be just fine as either an only dog or with other dogs. She likes to be your shadow and follow you everywhere you go but she is good when left home alone. She does great on a leash. There have been no accidents in the house since she got here. We are working on her manners of not jumping on me when I am eating. She knows some basic commands and has caught onto the routine in the house very quickly. She is a smart girl who is eager to please her human. She is about 2 years old and about 45-50 pounds.  She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. In New England. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.6/16/25 Meet Jean! She is a mid sized mixed breed lady who is a young adult/older puppy. She weighs about 38 pounds. She is friendly, sweet, and enjoys playing with other dogs. We have listed her as a Shepherd/Lab mix however that is purely a guess. If a DNA test was done, I can almost guarantee it would show that she is a mix of many breeds! We pulled Jean from a local shelter where she very likely would have been euthanized due to space as she was at a high kill shelter.  Thankfully we had spots open at the Arkansas Paws in Prison program, so we were able to pull her and place her at Paws in Prison.    Since she was pulled from a shelter, we do not have a lot of background/info on her yet but we will continue to update this post as we receive more details and info from her trainers at Paws in Prison she began at Paws in Prison on 6/6/25 so she will graduate the week of August 4th. We hope to have a home ready and waiting for her at that time!   Paws in prison is an amazing program where dogs are paired with inmates whom they are with 24/7 for 8 weeks. The inmates work with the dogs everyday on basic training, basic obedience, house training, leash training, etc. and even some tricks! They meet weekly with a certified dog trainer. This is a wonderful program and so beneficial for the dogs and the inmates!   Stay tuned for more details on Jean! She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.  Harrisburg, PA 2am Fridays Port Jervis, NY 5am Fridays  Southington, CT 8am Fridays  East Hartford, CT 11am Fridays  To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. Story
Age: 11 months Size: 47 lbs Estimated breed: German shepherd mix Lives with: Dogs Perfect home: Kids aged 12+ older only. Fenced-in yard is best, as he has and will take off after squirrels and other wildlife!   Meet Hopper, a sweet, affectionate, beautiful boy! He was found in a commonly used dumping area for dogs in rural North Carolina. They were taken to the shelter but no one came forward for them. Another rescue was able to save his brother, leaving Hopper all alone in a noisy shelter kennel. We agreed to bring him into rescue and find the best forever home for him!    Hopper is around 11 months old and weighs 47 lbs. He has an absolutely remarkable temperament and calm demeanor for a puppy his age. Hopper has never met a stranger and he happily greets new people and dogs with perfect energy. He loves kids but he is a young energetic shepherd, so we recommend any children in the home be sturdy enough to not be knocked over! He tested well with cats while in the shelter too, but we have not seen him live with them, so he'd need very slow introductions inside the home. He enjoys playing and going for walks with his doggie foster siblings but his absolute favorite activity is rolling onto his back and begging for belly rubs! Hopper is what we call a unicorn - dogs like him don't come around often and are super rare in the rescue community. Don't miss your chance to adopt your own unicorn, apply to adopt Hopper!    To adopt Hopper, please apply on our website! https://www.nirvanaanimalrescue.org/adoption-application   Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.    PA Kennel License #18366June 22, 2025, 11:54 am
