Story
Fillmore is a handsome 10-year-old coonhound/retriever mix who recently transferred to us from another shelter and is ready to start his next chapter. This sweet old man is currently living in a foster home, where he’s getting lots of love and settling into the good life. As we get to know him better, we’ll be sharing more updates on his personality, likes, and quirks. For now, we can tell you that Fillmore is gentle, kind, and full of that special senior-dog charm. If you’re looking for a loyal companion to share quiet moments, cozy naps, and peaceful walks, Fillmore just might be your perfect match. Senior dogs have so much love to give — and Fillmore is no exception.

Story
Meet Brim! This 25lb, 10-week-old, Golden Retriever mix is a happy bundle of joy who treats each day like it’s the best day ever. Whether he’s chasing a toy, exploring around, or trotting proudly around with a prize chew, this little guy is always up for fun. Playtime is his favorite time — and if treats are involved, you’ve officially become his best friend!Like any young pup, he’s still learning the canine way of life. House manners, leash skills, and basic commands are all works in progress. With consistency, positive reinforcement, and lots of praise (and snacks!), he’ll grow into the loyal, loving companion Golden Retrievers are famous for.He would thrive in a family that has the time, patience, and commitment to guide a puppy through these important early months. In return, you’ll get endless kisses, goofy zoomies, and a best friend who thinks you’re the center of his world. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!

Story
READ THIS INFORMATION BEFORE APPLYING Honey is a 7yearold F1B Goldendoodle rescued from a puppy mill. She has been with us for five and a half years and is considered one of our Sanctuary Dogs, though we would love to find her the right adoptive home. Honey bonds more easily with women, prefers to be the only dog, and thrives in a quiet, predictable environment. Once she trusts someone, she is incredibly sweet, loyal, and affectionate to that person. She will go to her new home on a 30day trial to ensure it’s the right fit for everyone. Temperament: Calm, gentle, deeply bonded to her person; not social with strangers Guests: May keep distance; has occasionally nipped ankles when startled or protective Other Pets: Must be the only pet; does not play with other dogs or cats Children: No children due to the possibility of nipping Daily Life: Groomed every two months; rides well in the car; fearful of leash walks Home Needs: Secure fenced yard; someone home during the day; sitter must come to the home for vacations Behavior: No anxiety; trustworthy, loose in the house; does not chew or get into things, will be scared at first. Adoption Requirements - We’re not able to make any exceptions to these requirements. Secure, fencedin yard Home Visit Required No children and no other pets Must be located within one hour of Northwest Indiana A vet reference and vet history on your previous dog is required.  30day trial period before finalizing adoption Honey is up to date on vaccinations, Microchipped, and spayed. Story
Not looking to make money. I want them to have a sweet, kind, loving home. Gus is 6 years old and was brought home to us as puppy from a local breeder. He is energetic but also very loyal and loving. He wants all of the attention in the world. He loves to play ball, go to dog parks and take walks. He gets excited easily when I get home or new people come over, but eventually settles down. We are looking to keep him with our other dog, Dane, a boxer. Our boxer is attached to him now after almost 4 years and they are best buds whether Gus likes it or not. :) They are both crate trained. Dane does not like it if Gus gets to go somewhere without him and that is the only time he gets nervous in the cage. Gus has done well being left at home and not in the crate. I have not tried it often with Dane as he likes to get into things, but he might do okay. They are house trained. They love to play with each other, so a nice fenced in back yard would be a great asset for them.
