Story
Meet Ringo, the 1 year old Great Dane mix with a unique personality. He was found playing with kids at a school in Texas, but wound up on the euthanasia list for space at the local tiny high kill shelter that is chronically over capacity. He's mastered house training, but doesn't signal when he needs to go out, preferring a set routine. While he's getting used to crate training and enjoys relaxing in it during the day, he'd rather not be crated at night (needs it though).   Ringo isn't destructive as long as he's entertained and crated when alone. He alerts his people by barking when people come by, but he doesn’t bark much. He’s a good fit for households with other big dogs (or none) and older children as he doesn’t realize his size and can knock smaller kids over by accident. He truly does love kids and would love to be a part of a family with some. His energy level makes him an excellent companion for running, hiking, and long walks.   In terms of training, Ringo knows basic commands like Sit, Stay, No, and Release (when he’s allowed to start eating his food), & he is very food motivated. He's a very curious boy and needs mental stimulation, while preferring to be included rather than left alone.   He’s not a fan of cuddling yet (he may have never known that life)! He loves rubbing his head against people he likes. Sometimes when he gives you a head rub, his shoulder follows along with his back and it turns into a whole body rub from Ringo. While he doesn't require another dog at home, he does need a fenced yard as he enjoys wandering. Overall, Ringo thrives with human companionship and an active lifestyle.   DISCLAIMER- Breed type is determined based on general appearance and behavioral characteristics and cannot be guaranteed unless DNA test results or AKC registration were provided at intake.   ***MOST OF OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN TEXAS, BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. Read below for more information.   Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue. The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport. As a Pep's Pals Rescue direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, Facetime, etc).    Our adoption fee is $400 plus health certificate and transport (varies by location). This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, microchip (additional $12.99 registration fee required at time of adoption), fecal analysis, spay/neuter for dogs 6 months & older, and a heartworm test if over 6 months old. All dogs are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. A health exam will be completed and a health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days of transport.   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out the adoption application below: https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/57837/generic ##1994243##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.Dolly has large Great Dane genes grafted onto a somewhat smaller body. Not that anyone would ever call her small, but you would say she's a manageable size, which is perfect. If you love the Dane look, but aren't sure you could handle a full size model, we have Dolly waiting for you. She is currently only 60 lbs., but that is a bit deceiving, as she is very underweight. We would like to see at least 15 lbs. more on her ribs and we are working on it. She is now getting top quality groceries, something she has never had before. Still a young dog, at only about 2 years old, she is in the process of learning about how to deal with the world around her and she is learning fast. Her foster has some comments to help you understand this 'dog-in-progress. 'She’s nervous around new people and things. She does warm up after a bit. Her initial reaction to people that she doesn’t know is to low growl. She is trying to tell everyone to give her a moment to process the new information. I don’t recommend a house with cats or small animals. She’ tries to chase down all the birds,  and squirrels when we’re outside. I’m fairly confident her life prior to rescue wasn’t a good one. It's heartbreaking seeing a good dog trying to cope with a world she was never shown. UPDATE:I have had her for a month now, and she is learning! I took her to the vet today, and while she was nervous, she did not growl. So there has been improvement on that aspect. She wasn’t super outgoing and wanting everyone’s attention, so definitely stand by the slower to warm up to strangers. I highly suspect she’s been abused. She is highly intelligent and learns new things really fast.  She really has the potential to be an excellent dog, and wants to be loved and please her person. MORE UPDATE: Since being here at my house over a month now I have some new insights into her. She is not dog friendly with all dogs.  She's OK with my male dog, but not so happy with my female.  I've been working on getting her to ignore people on walks and she's doing better. She doesn't like it if strangers get to close when we are out.  In the yard. she's definitely going to need at least a 6 foot fence to keep her safely secured.  I will say, she is house trained and does let you know when she needs to go out. She also does very well in her kennel. She is very smart, and can learn things pretty quickly. She has all her shots and is ready and waiting for the person or family who like bigger dogs, but aren't ready for an actual Goliath. Dolly is a good girl! She is hoping you will want to help her be a good dog and come for her soon.   If you are interested in Dolly, please fill out an application at: https://reachoutrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4588    Or contact: rorrcanine@gmail.com   *** Click here to sponsor this dog! ***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 8, 2024, 5:07 pm

Story
Toby-at-a-glance: 3-year-old, male, neutered, Great Dane/Plott Hound mix, up-to-date on core vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Toby is on monthly tick/flea/heartworm prevention.  Toby is the cutest wiggle butt! Every morning, he does a full-body wiggle to start his day. He is well-versed in high fives and kisses. Being taken in by his foster family/Lovepaws from an overcrowded, high-kill shelter, this sweet boy is very loving and affectionate with an affinity for walks, chew toys, and his bed/crate. He has done well with older children, even playfully stealing a fluffy toy from the youngest member of his foster family, and his foster parent reports he will likely be good with younger ones too. Toby is an active dog who would enjoy a nice yard with a tall fence and lots of walks/runs. He would be eager to go on adventures with his new human(s). Once he gets his exercise, he is content to settle down and cuddle/chew on his toys. His foster reports he may have seasonal allergies and is fascinated by small animals/birds. Toby is graceful, and fast, with the most beautiful shiny coat! If you are looking for a snuggly, active buddy to accompany you on adventures, Toby is the one for you!  Interested in adopting? Of course, you are! DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Bruno is 2 years old and weighs 126bs.  He's neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, but is not microchipped.  "Bruno is an extremely loving dog to our immediate family and to two family members who live nearby.  This is very challenging for us because we love and adore Bruno.  But we have to put our humans first.   He knows sit, down, come, and "place"... the last one is used to tell him to get in his crate.  He loves his crate and usually goes in just to nap with the door open.  He has been trained for invisible fence as well as with an e-collar, but behaviorist discourages both."  Bruno is crated when the family is not at home and loves it, as he feels secure and peaceful.  However, Bruno dislikes and/or fears outsiders and doorbells but LOVE car rides.  Bruno is fed Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach Salmon and Rice + probiotic granules. BITE/LUNGE/ATTACK INCIDENTS:  Incidents happend in October 2022 and January 2023.  " Owner's brother (injury, but no medical attention needed), a family friend (no injury), neighbor's elderly dog (no injury).  Account from my brother (my husband and I were away on a business trip and my mom was in charge):  ' Mom, Benjamin, and myself all went into the garage to let him out and I let him sniff me through the crate prior to letting him out.  He seemed cool with me.   I did not know that he was taking trazadone at the time and that he had not received it yet*.  When he came out of the cage he seemed upset and lunged at me and bit me on the forearm.  It was just a quick thing.  He immediately let go.  It could've been a lot worse.  He could've held on and shook but he didn't.  Just a quick warning bite.  I assumed he remembered me and was okay with me.  That obviously  wasn't the case.  I sustained one puncture from his left to canine and bruising from the other three canines.' (no medical attention was sought). *Bruno was on trazadone following his neuter and gastropexy surgery about 12 days prior.  It was meant to keep him stationary during healing.  My husband and I were traveling for his work at the time.  My other two sons were at scouts meeting." Bruno's guardian explains why she made the decision to rehome him:  " We have invested a lot of resources into his health (neuter and gastropexy) as well as obediance training.  Unfortunately for us, we have not been able to rehabilitate him from his fearfulness and the agression toward outsiders that it brings.  After consultation with a very well-respected behaviorist, we have concluded that he could be rehabilitated to interact with outside adults and other dogs, but not with kids outside of our family.   It simply is not safe for us to continue to keep him and have our children's friends in and out of the house.  We have lost trust in his ability to be civil with kids beyond ours.  He would thrive in an environment where he can interact with patient adults, have lots of outdoor space, and be offered training by a reputable behaviorist." Bruno's guardian states the following about children:  Bruno lives with children, ages 15, 12 and 10, but his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating Bruno is " Nervous, fearful, and aggressive.  He should not be rehomed to a place that has children visit." Bruno's guardian states the following about dogs:  Bruno has lived with dogs, but his guardian so she recommends his living with dogs, stating " I do know he originally was surrendered by a family who had a total of 3 Great Danes (his mother and father).  I actually think he'd benefit from living with other dogs who have a healthy social outlook.  A lso, he has a BLAST when he goes to board while we're away.  He makes friends and has a good time.  He also interacts well with the staff (probably because he is not on his territory/our house)." Bruno's guardian states the following about cats:  Bruno lives with a cat but his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "He chases our cat.  The cat feels terrorized." Bruno's guardian further describes him as: Couch potato Barks alot Playful Likes to be touched Affectionate Fearful Always at your side Indoor dog Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Separation anxiety Bruno's guardian describes his ideal future home:  " A home with acreage and a fence that would allow him to run free.  He would be best-suited to a home where children do not visit.  With behavioral rehabilitation, he could be fine with visiting adults and dogs.  We can offer a full report from a renowned behaviorist." His enthusiasm for people, playing, and hugging makes him a real "Mr. Personality." He enjoys attention and soft toys, brings joy and laughter to everyone he meets!Given his size and energy level,we reccomend a home without small children. A nice yard is a must. This will provide him with the space he needs to romp and play to his heart's content. Bogey needs to learn boundaries and personal space with other dogs and he would really t benefit from a home that can provide him with training and guidance in socializing with his canine friends.Bogey's affectionate nature and goofball personality makes him a wonderful potential family member for the right household. It's clear that he just needs someone who understands his needs and breed, and is willing to provide the necessary guidance and training to ensure he thrives in a new home. If someone is willing to give him a chance, they will be rewarded with a loyal and entertaining companion. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training.
