Story

Maggie is 3-4 year old Terrier/Chihuahua/Poodle mix weighing about 15lbs. Maggie came to us over a year ago from a hoarding case where there were over 60 Chihuahua/Poodle mixes living in a small home in Denver. They were all incredibly under socialized and neglected, with most of the females being pregnant. We were able to take in 5 of the pregnant moms from Maxfund to help get them into a safe and comfortable place to give birth and raise their puppies. We also took about 8 other dogs from the hoarding case to start them socializing and learning how to "dog". Maggie is now the last dog from the hoarding case and needs her forever family. Maggie has clearly been through a lot and still has a long way to come. She is a sweet girl but still pretty timid around humans. She will come and snuggle with her foster Momma on her terms but it did take an incredibly long time for that to happen. Maggie really needs a human who can be patient with her and give her a forever home with lots of love knowing she came from an incredibly rough situation and will probaly never be a completely "normal" dog. Her fosters describe her as more of a cat-dog. We know she could make more progress with some training as well. We will require she goes to a home with another dog so she can continue to learn how to trust and be a dog. Posie is a 1 year old, 13lb Terrier mix. Posie was surrendered to an overcrowded shelter in Texas. The shelter reached out to us for help because they were over capacity and desperate to move dogs before having to make tough decisions. We knew Posie could find a great home here in CO! Posie has been here in CO with one of our wonderful foster families and is ready to find her forever family. She gets along great with cats, dogs, kids, and all humans. Posie is a submissive, playful little girl who wants nothing more in the world than to love and be loved. She loves to wiggle her little butt and will roll over on her back when she gets attention to get all the belly rubs. She loves to romp around and still has that fun puppy energy. Posie has the cutest little underbite and everybody that meets her just falls in love with her immediately. We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog that needs our help. Popcorn was one of these dogs that deserves, due to his excellent temperament and all the love he'll bring to a family, to have a wonderful home filled with pure love and nurturing. Popcorn was found as a stray in Texas, lost and alone on the scary streets. He was rescued and brought into a small local shelter. While terribly frightened, his temperament immediately spoke of his sweet and kind personality. Popcorn was immediately granted a transport ticket to a new beginning in Colorado. Popcorn is a cute as can be 2 or so year old, 15 lb Chihuahua / Jack Russell Terrier mix that is nothing but pure love. This pup is SO sweet and once acclimated to his new life, will be a friendly and engaging pup that will give 100% of his heart to his new family. Once he has acclimated, Popcorn will be a perfect size and weight to be able to accompany his favorite people everywhere a wonderful smaller dog is welcome. He will fit right into virtually every situation due to her great temperament and love of life. Our dream for this wonderful dog is a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life. Popcorn will initially be frightened in his new home. This is to be expected due to the challenges he's faced in his life. As Popcorn becomes more and more comfortable in his forever home (with the help of his new family), he will blossom and become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please. The happier his family is with his behavior, the more this sweetie pie will shine with his accomplishments. Farfel's would like to see Popcorn in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and some lap or couch-time with belly rubs would be perfect!) as well as taking that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement / force free virtual or in-person obedience classes. These classes successfully teach a very smart and cooperative dog like Popcorn the skills to accompany his family out into the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person force-free trainers in your area. Popcorn is so much fun to watch as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with his rescuer This little guy would do very well with retirees who are searching for a lovable new family member. He'll enjoy the attention and time that this age group usually puts in their pets. A younger family that works from a home-based office would be a perfect match as well. Popcorn would bask in the attention and periodic walks and cuddles throughout the day that this life-style offers. Popcorn will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths / brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are excellent protocols for longevity and coat care) to keep Popcorn's hair super- healthy and cottony-soft..
