Story
Meet Meadow! She is sweet, playful, curious, has a beautiful soft curly coat, travels well in the car, her calm nature sets in quickly after some playtime and she’s peacefully quiet with only a very occasional alert bark. Chew toys and food puzzles are highly recommended for this girl. She’s happiest after a game of fetch. She is potty trained as well crate trained for short durations. She is leash trained, and knows basic obedience commands, but needs continued practice and consistency with both. She has a high pray, drive towards cats and other small animals. She is a Labradoodle and does shed soft fuzz. I am hoping for a nearby rehoming situation (northern Bay Area or other somewhat close proximity) so we can transition her from our home to yours with minimal stress.

Story
Maui is a beautiful, sweet, and silly 100lb Double Doodle (her wisdom panel shows 45% Labrador Retriever, 32% Golden Retriever, 22% Poodle, and 1% Flat-Coated Retriever). She came to SPAR facing life and death, having to undergo her second gastrointestinal surgery. She luckily pulled through the surgery and the weeks of recovery. She had previously had a foreign body removal 6 months prior as a puppy. Maui is looking for a special home. Having already used two (or more) of her spare lives, her body cannot afford another foreign body removal or gastrointestinal surgery. She cannot have access to any toys or anything left out she can chew on (blankets, dog beds, her leash, plastic dog bowls, etc). She sleeps in her kennel at night and is great around other dogs of all sizes. She is learning about cats in her current foster home and might be okay around dog-savvy cats. She would be okay in a home with older kids that understand the safety concerns of leaving things out where Maui can get into them. She has decent leash manners and enjoys going on walks. She is very smart and would love to take additional obedience classes to bond more with her new family. Maui also has already had an incisional gastropexy, so no future risks of GDV, or “bloat”. If you are interested in meeting Maui, please complete the adoption application. We go through a multi-step process for our dogs that includes meeting at the fosters home, a home inspection, and reference checks.

Story
Dominic -- 10+-year-old black male Lab mix 70-lbs Neutered Background: Dominic's owner recently died, and his caretaker has asked us to find him a fabulous new home. Dominic has lived as an outside dog for the past few months... (but he is now really enjoying life indoors)... What Dominic's Former Caretaker Says: My friend passed away in March and I have been trying to find a home for his dog since then. I believe he is a 12-years-old. I think Dominic has lost some weight since he's been with me; his prior owner had fed him way too much people food. Dominic loves to go on walks. Not sure if he is housebroken. He loves to play with other dogs. He doesn't show any possessiveness over food or toys, but he really hates to give up his toy...no growling, just a stubborn old man. We play ball with Dominic in our backyard and he loves to play with and chase my grandson. Likes to chase cats, but does not harrn them. What Dominic's Evaluator Says: Dominic is probably 10-12 years old. Dominic is very engaging and friendly. Loves being touched and petted. Let me touch and poke/prod him all over. No food guarding -- for both dry kibble (which he wasn't really interested in) and wet canned dog food (which he gobbled right down). Not interested in squeaky toy. Pulls on leash (with flat collar). Did fine with my dog Diesel. Videos from caretaker showed Dominic hanging out just fine with little dogs. Dominic is definitely a mix... I see Lab and possible Rottie -- I think Dominic is a mix of multiple breeds... A little bit of a drooler. What Dominic's Foster Says: What a nice, affectionate dog. If you have a lap, he wants to climb up into it. Rides great in the car. Loves going on walks, but kinda meanders all over the place. Sleeps through the night with nary a peep. Not interested in squeaky toys. A bit of a picky eater, I've had to dress up his dry kibble with some wet food which he gobbles down. He is house broken but not crate trained. He sleeps on a coach (covered by a blanket). Dominic is good left alone and doesn’t chew things up, but I pick up the recycling bag at night if there is a used dog food can in it. He alert barks; Dominic is quiet in the house except when the doorbell rings... but he doesn’t keep barking and stops when told to. He doesn’t have separation anxiety. He is great with people and kids but suggest supervision around toddlers because he is a big guy and could accidentally knock them over. He is okay with most other dogs but gets excited so supervised meet and greets are best. He is a lover. Dominic loves to be cuddled first thing in the am. He Is good on a head leash and a 30-min walk is best. He sleeps a lot, loves the car and loves to be with people. When he needs to go out, he paces by the door and looks at you. He doesn’t bark though so you need to let him about after 3-4 hours in case you missed his signal. When I am gone, he self-limits the water drinking so no accidents. He is used to going about 10-11 hours overnight. He is a lovely guy. What Dominic's Rover.com Dogwalker Says: This boy deserves a good home. Anyone would be lucky to have him. Dominic is a lovable pup that is all about genuine affection. He's such sweetheart, always eager to be close and show his love with cuddles and occasional kisses. What makes Dominic stand out is his easy-going nature. He just wants to love and be loved. On walks, he's generally well-behaved, but his excitement can occasionally get the best of him when he spots other dogs or humans. He might give a gentle tug, but we've been working with him and he's quick to correct, eager to continue the stroll with a wagging tail or say hello when given the “okay”. He shows no aggression, just excitement at the possibility of a new friend. Despite his tough looking exterior, Dominic is a softie at heart. He is always eager to please and be a loyal companion and shows no resistance to any kind of training given to him. Dom is proof that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Dom would be the perfect addition to a person or family looking for a loyal, gentle, and affectionate companion. What Dominic' Rescue Rep Says: Dominic appears to have lived a hard life. Deserving of a nice relaxing new home. Dominic would do fine in a home with other dogs but he may appreciate being an only dog so his people can focus solely on him. Probably not house-broken so that will take some work. Time for this guy to learn what living inside a home with his people is all about. Great dog for older folks that just want a wonderful dog hanging around. Medical: Dominic is current on Rabies and distemper vaccinations, and heartworm negative. In Mid-September he was microchipped, neutered, and had a benign mass on his lower abdomen removed. Teeth are quite worn down but we did not see any broken, cracked or rotten teeth (maybe from chewing on rocks). Appears to have some fur loss on his hind quarters and tail -- likely due to fleas and has been growing back. Located In: Petaluma. If you are interested in adopting Dominic, contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net. Please note our service area: GGLRR adopts to the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.

Story
Tink is an 8-year-old miniature poodle that we adopted when she was one year old. She loves being around her family, and enjoys playing fetch, tug-of-war, rolling her ball off of every ledge imaginable, and sleeping in the sun. Finding a nice, quiet sun patch might be her favorite thing to do! Most of the time, Tink is calm and playful; however, she is a reactive dog and does have a bite history. About one year after adoption, she bit me in the face as I was leaning in to kiss her, but did not realize she had a treat near her. This did cause bleeding. Recently, she nipped at our two week old baby when she was crying. This did not leave a mark. We had spoken with a couple behavioralists, and both seemed to think this behavior can be corrected. Tink is seeking a loving and quiet home where she is the only pet, and a home that is not too active, as she does not like to be left alone for long periods. Tink would do well with a retired owner who has the time to be with her and love her.

Story
Have you ever met a mutt that is just the life of the party, the very center of attention? Charming Chagall is one such dog, he’s a ham who enjoys being the apple of your eye. This dapper gentleman has a coat burnished to perfection with a sweet frosting face, the only sign of his advanced age. This pit/lab mix is treat motivated, meaning you can easily win him over with treats, but he also adores the adoration of his fans – he lives for the applause. So smiles and cuddles and making a fuss will work almost as well as those tasty tidbits. If you think things in your day to day have gotten a bit dull, we can promise that Chagall will lighten it up!
