Story
Meet Maybel, a gentle and petite lab-mix, who will steal your heart.
Estimated to be 2-3 years old and a little under 30 pounds, Maybel came from a hoarding situation in Oklahoma but thanks to a series of loving foster homes, this young mama has blossomed into a real social butterfly. She greets any new arrival to the house with a happy attitude and a wagging tail, which turns into a serious butt wiggle if given the slightest encouragement. In the yard or on walks, she shows an alert interest in the people she sees, especially kids.- saying "Hi!! Come see me!!! " With her happy ears and body language !
In addition to being good with people, Maybel seems comfortable with dogs her size and smaller. However, she has displayed nervousness and unease when seeing larger dogs on walks so may need a slow introduction to any larger canine companions.
In terms of energy level, Maybel is about a 4 out of 10. She can have moments of zooming zaniness in the yard or chasing a squeaky toy. However, she is quick to settle down and take a more relaxed approach to life. Maybel is a big fan of bully sticks, cheese in any form, and taking naps-lots of naps. She has designated several chairs in the household as her "favorite" chairs and can often be found curled up on one. She also enjoys snuggling with her humans on the couch or bed. Maybel is a responsible girl and has been given free run of the house, both when her owners are home or when they are away, and she has shown no interest in chewing or getting into something she shouldn't.
Maybel enjoys watching the neighborhood goings from the front window, but in the two weeks she has lived in her Illinois foster home, she has not uttered a bark. She is, however, good at expressing her feelings-through a series of soft whines, whimpers and the occasional snort. Her tail is also a clear signal of her comfort level-high and waving in the house or back yard but lower, sometimes much lower, when confronting a new outside space.
Maybel walks well on the leash and enjoys the chance to sniff at various neighborhood spots. Since her arrival, Maybel has been exploring her new surroundings and once she's familiar with a route, she seems comfortable. However, the first few times she walks down a new street or into a different park, her tail indicates that she is a little nervous. With more time and more positive experiences, we think that Maybel will become a great walking/hiking companion.
If you have a good supply of cheese, some comfy chairs, and a grassy backyard for her to roll around in, Maybel is ready to be your forever pup. Don't miss out on this gentle gem.
