Story
Meet Betty, a 2 year old mixed large breed lady! She has the most soulful eyes and the sleekest black shiny coat, and on top of that, she's the sweetest cuddlebug! She enjoys other dogs and we think she'd do well with kids since she's got such a gentle demeanor and has loved every adult she's met. She thinks cats are a toy to chase so a home without cats would probably be best. She's doing great with potty training and has been fine sleeping outside her crate. She walks well on a leash and is super food motivated, so continued training should be a breeze! Betty is very easygoing! She's happy to snuggle with you on the couch but she also loves to play with toys or go for a walk! As long as her people are there, she's in for all of it. She especially loves getting comfy soft surfaces. After she scopes out each of the options and chooses her favorite cozy spots, you'll often catch her stretching out on the couch for a belly rub, or wiggling around on her back in a pile of blankets. We are excited for her to find a permanent pad with a family of her own, so let us know if you want to meet Betty! Betty's adoption fee is $350

Story
Lola is a sweet girl, good with kids and a great snuggler when people are around her. However, she is very anxious. Whenever we leave, she becomes very nervous. Loud noises bother her. Most of the time, she is pretty quiet, barks a little when other dogs go by the house. She loves to chase squirrels and be outdoors with her people. The new landlord is having issues with the dog. She was a rescue dog and has lived with us for about 10 of her (approximate) 11 years. She has been around children (now 5 and 7) and has been great with them. She is healthy and alert with many great years ahead of her in the right home.

Story
Meet Banana Phone — The Shy Guy With the Biggest Heart (and Even Bigger Zoomies!) Say hello to Banana Phone, a male mixed-breed mystery (seriously — your guess is as good as ours!) with a gentle soul and a playful spirit just waiting for the right family to bring it fully to life. He came here all the way from Texas with two of his siblings and was born on 8/17/2025. He currently weighs 15lbs, but is growing very quickly! Banana can be a little shy at first, but once he decides you’re his person, he transforms into a wiggly, toy-delivering ball of joy. If your hand is empty, don’t worry — he’ll fix that. Toy delivery is his love language. He already knows how to sit, is working on potty training and learning “lay,” and is a quick learner who’s happily treat motivated (the fastest path to his heart is definitely edible). He’s a talented little fetch player… though he believes the “give it back” part is optional. Banana’s favorite thing in the world is laying in warm sun spots, followed closely by zooming around the yard like a happy little comet. He adores kids, plays well with other dogs, and will make an amazing companion dog — the kind who follows you from room to room just to be close. He hasn’t been tested with cats or small animals yet, but his lovable nature gives him tons of potential. If you’re searching for a loyal buddy with a sweet heart, a playful streak, and the cutest mix of shy and energetic, Banana Phone is ready to dial into your life. Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application. Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

Story
Urgent Plea for a Foster Home for Mindy Mindy, a sweet and gentle 9-year-old Lab and Hound mix, desperately needs a safe place to land. Her previous family failed her, and she was abandoned, but she still has so much love left to give. A senior dog might not run a marathon alongside you, but she will happily walk by your side. The slower, gentler pace of life settles into their old bones, making every moment shared with them special. Like fine wine, dogs get better with age—their muzzles may be whiter, but their hearts are fuller. Mindy is a 55lb, loving senior girl who enjoys spending time outside, taking walks, and playing with toys. She still has more energy than a typical senior and thrives on attention, treats, and bones. She does well in playgroups with proper introductions and is currently kenneled with other dogs at the shelter. She is crate trained but, like many senior dogs, needs a consistent routine to manage her bladder. She also walks best with a harness. Mindy’s Story: Mindy came from Texas, where humans failed her, leaving her to face an uncertain fate in a shelter. She is still adjusting and needs a gentle hand to help her rebuild her trust. She is also vocal when meeting new dogs, so proper introductions are essential to help her feel confident. Her Situation is Extremely Urgent! Mindy is finishing up her final 10 days of rest from heartworm treatment and will be ready for adoption soon. However, her current foster family is in crisis and can no longer care for her. She must be relocated immediately. We do not have a physical shelter, and our boarding partners are completely full for the next few weeks due to Spring Break. More than that, we are deeply concerned that placing her in boarding will break her spirit. Mindy deserves a warm bed and the comfort of a home in her senior years. We are desperate to find her a foster or forever family right now. Can You Help? While you foster, we provide all necessary supplies and vet care through our local veterinary partners. You provide the love. If you can help by fostering or adopting Mindy, please email us as soon as possible at: adopt@safehavendogsil.org Please help us help her! Mindy deserves a second chance at love and security. Time is of the essence—she needs you now!

Story
Meet Chestnut – The Sweetest Little Firecracker! 🐾 6-Month-Old Male • Terrier Mix • Energetic & Loving Hi there – I’m Chestnut! I’m a 6-month-old terrier mix puppy who made a big journey from Texas to find my forever family, and I just know they’re out there waiting for me! My foster family says I’m curious, playful, smart, and oh-so-lovable. I’m always up for backyard zoomies, a good game of tug-of-war, or chasing after a ball (fetch is my favorite!). Once I’ve burned off some energy, I love nothing more than curling up on the couch for snuggles. I adore meeting new people and pups—I’ve never met a stranger! While I don’t live with any kids in my foster home, I’ve done well around small children during visits. I also get along great with other dogs and would love a home with a playful furry friend—but I’d also be totally happy as your one and only sidekick. I’m a smart cookie, too! I already know several commands like “Sit,” “Wait,” “Down,” and “No,” and I’m learning more every day. I get super excited and may jump up to say hello, but that’s just my happy puppy energy—if you give me attention, I settle right down. I’m fully potty trained (yay!) as long as I get frequent outdoor breaks, and I sleep soundly all night in my crate. I’ll even take daytime naps in there, especially if there’s a cozy blanket waiting for me. My foster family absolutely loves me, but they know I deserve a forever home that can give me all the love, playtime, and guidance a smart, energetic pup like me needs. Could that be you? I can’t wait to meet you and start our next adventure together! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Story
Meet Etson! Etson, fondly called Eddy or Mr. Wiggles by his foster Mom, is a 7 month old, 35 lb, lab bully mix from Texas. Eddy is an adventure loving, playful, love bug! He loves riding in the car, playing with his toys, going on walks and giving kisses to everyone he meets. Eddy has met young kids on walks and done well, but doesn’t currently live with any. He hasn’t met any cats, but has no interest in squirrels or bunnies. He lives with another dog in his foster home and they love running and playing together in the yard. Fetch is one of his favorite games. When his foster brother gets tired Eddy is happy to play with his stuffed toys. Throwing them in the air and wrestling with them. Or he’s happy to chew a bone in his crate. Eddy is working on potty training, but does sleep through the night in his crate with no accidents. Eddy loves, loves food. His body vibrates with joy during his sit before eating. If you are looking for a sweet, playful, outgoing companion Eddy might be the perfect fit for you. Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). Story
Meet Booth – Your Loyal, Four-Legged Shadow Booth is a breathtakingly handsome 6-year-old Labrador mix whose warm, soulful eyes and bright, beaming smile can melt even the frostiest of days. This gentle boy has a heart as big as his goofy grin, and he’s always happiest when following his favorite humans like the world’s most devoted shadow. If you’re walking from room to room, don’t worry—Booth will be right there, trotting beside you, ready for whatever adventure comes next. His absolute favorite pastime? Sniffy walks—lots of them. Booth’s nose is basically a professional detective, and he approaches every outing with the determination of a pup on an important mission. Every blade of grass is a clue, and every breeze carries a new story just waiting to be uncovered. Booth adores his people deeply, but he needs a moment (and a little patience) to warm up to new faces. Once he trusts you, though, he loves with his whole heart. For this reason, Booth would truly thrive in a home with family members aged 12 and up—people who can help nurture his confidence, respect his boundaries, and give him the steady love he deserves. He’s a pup who blossoms in a calm, understanding environment where his mind stays active and his body gets to move. Whether it’s enrichment games, fun training sessions, or outdoor adventures, Booth is all in. He has so much sweetness, loyalty, and quiet devotion to offer—he just needs the right person or family to let him shine. When it comes to canine buddies, Booth is a bit selective. But once someone earns the title of “friend,” they’re his buddy for life. With the help of a patient canine friend at the shelter, Booth has gained tons of confidence—so much so that he now ventures into water (yes, even the Fox River!) and boldly explores new areas he once found intimidating. Watching him grow is truly special. Booth’s Favorite Things Long, exploratory sniffy walks Tasty jerky treats Snuggly cuddle sessions Squeaky toys (the louder, the better!) Cues Booth Knows Sit Stay Touch Let’s go! Recall Booth is an All-Star dog! His adoption comes with some extra benefits at time of adoption. Their adoption appointment includes a discussion with our Training Team, and they will go home with their very own no-pull-harness and a few enrichment goodies to help get them off to a good start! To schedule an appointment to meet Booth, email info@ahconnects.org (please include your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to help you! Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians. Ask fosters@ahconnects.org about fostering Booth, while he waits for his forever home!

Hi, I'm Danielle! Thanks for checking me out! I know my cute face is hard to resist, but here's the scoop: I'll need a lot of your time and attention as I grow up into the amazing adult dog I'm destined to be! I'm looking for a forever family that will help me with socialization, training (yes, that includes house training!), and plenty of exercise. And let's not forget the chewing and teething-I'm still learning what's okay (and what's definitely not okay) to put in my mouth. So, be ready for some puppy-proofing! Don't forget those vet visits! I'll need to stay up to date on my boosters and vaccines, which means a few trips to see my favorite vet in the first few months. But trust me, all that effort will be worth it when you experience the endless love, puppy kisses, and pure joy I'll bring into your life. So, if you're up for the challenge and the fun, why not come meet me in person? Stop by during our adoption hours. For more details, email bloomingdale@ahconnects.org or give us a call at 847-697-2880 x: 90. The friendly folks here will be happy to answer all your questions!
