Say hello to Marty, a white and tan lab mix with a heart full of love-especially for other dogs! Marty's confidence truly shines when he's with his canine friends, so he's looking for a home with existing dogs who can help him feel right at home. His playful and sweet personality comes alive when he's surrounded by his furry companions. Marty is an outdoor enthusiast who loves to soak up the sun, take in the smells, lay in a kiddie pool, and enjoy short nature walks. He's still working on his leash manners, but with a little patience, he'll be a great walking buddy. When it comes to people, Marty prefers to keep his circle small. But once you're in, you've got a loyal friend for life. He loves to sit next to you, soaking in a few gentle pets and enjoys the simple pleasures of a quiet life. Marty would thrive best in a calm, peaceful home where he can relax and be himself. If you have a quiet home with other dogs and are looking for a gentle soul to join your family, Marty could be the perfect addition to your family. Are you ready to help Marty find his forever home? Marty is an all-star dog, and his adoption appointment includes a discussion with the training team, as well as a few enrichment goodies to help get you both off to a good start. To learn more about Marty or to schedule an appointment to meet him, please email info@ahconnects.org (including your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to assist you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

Story
Meet Toby, The all-American dog with a heart as big as his hound nose! Toby's idea of a perfect day involves taking in all the outdoor smells, whether it's during his regular Paws in the Park training class or a Doggie Day Out with volunteers. He's a big fan of car rides, splashing in the Fox River, and, of course, chasing squirrels. After a hard day's work, nothing beats a pup cup treat! Toby is a big boy who loves his space, so he'd do best in a home with plenty of room to stretch out. He's also a strong, independent pup who enjoys being in charge of his daily activities-meaning he'll thrive as the only animal in the house. Toby's got his basic cues down, is house-trained, and in his previous home, he was trusted to roam freely while left alone. If you're ready to give Toby the space and love he deserves, he's ready to be your new buddy! My adoption comes with some extra benefits at the time of adoption! Toby is an all-star dog, and his adoption appointment includes a discussion with the training team, as well as a few enrichment goodies to help get you both off to a good start. To learn more about Toby or to schedule an appointment to meet him, please email info@ahconnects.org (including your name and phone number), and the staff will be happy to assist you. Story
Say hello to Sissy, a sweet-natured and slightly shy senior Labrador Retriever mix, looking for a forever home where she can bask in love and comfort. Sissy has a gentle soul and, while she may be a bit reserved at first, she warms up to kindness and patience. She's the perfect companion for cozy evenings and peaceful walks. Due to her environmental and seasonal allergies, as well as food sensitivities, Sissy is on a special diet that helps keep her feeling her best. Her new family will need to continue this regimen to ensure she remains happy and healthy. Sissy would thrive in a calm and stable environment, ideally with someone who understands the needs of a sensitive dog. She might need a little extra time to adjust, but with gentle encouragement, she'll soon find her confidence. If you have room in your heart and home for this beautiful soul, come meet Sissy! She's ready to give all her love to a family that can offer her the gentle care she deserves. Stop in and meet Sissy in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. Story
Introducing Clyde, a charming boy with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! Clyde is a sweet pup who adores going on walks and having fun playtime. His enthusiasm for life shines through, and he's always ready to explore the world around him. Despite being heartworm positive, Clyde remains active and full of energy. He doesn't let anything hold him back from enjoying his favorite activities, whether it's chasing after toys or enjoying a leisurely stroll in the park. His zest for life is truly inspiring! Clyde is also quite the conversationalist! He loves to chat and will happily engage in a lively dialogue with anyone who's willing to listen. His vocal nature adds an extra layer of charm to his personality, making every moment spent with him entertaining and delightful. Clyde is looking for a loving home where he can receive the care and attention he deserves. With proper treatment for his heartworm, he'll continue to thrive and be the playful companion you've been searching for. He's ready to fill your life with joy, laughter, and plenty of love. If you're ready to welcome this sweet boy into your heart and home, come meet Clyde today! He can't wait to start his next adventure with you! Clyde's journey started at Anderson Animal Shelter, where he arrived from a partner shelter. Despite testing positive for Heartworm, he hasn't let that dampen his spirits. The staff here believes that during Clyde's treatment and recovery, the best place for him is with a loving and forever family like yours. If you choose to adopt him! The treatment process typically takes about three months, during which some simple at-home steps will keep him safe and comfortable. After that, a follow-up test six months post-treatment ensures he's back to his happy, healthy self. It's important to remember that Heartworm can only be transmitted by mosquitoes, so with proper precautions, we can keep Clyde safe and sound. With your love and care, the staff anticipates that Clyde will fully recover, and he can't wait to bring joy and laughter into your home. When I arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Louisiana, I tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for Heartworm positive dogs like me to be while going through treatments and recovering is with a loving and forever family like yours. If you choose to adopt me, the clinic staff will be with you every step of the way, answering questions and offering support. The process from detection to the final treatment is generally three months and involves some simple at-home steps to keep me safe while I recover. The last step in the process is a follow-up test six months after my treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful and the staff anticipates that I will fully recover! Yeah! And you should know that Heartworm can only be transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes. Stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. I hope to meet you soon! Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (6 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.* Espresso is not just a Lab/ Aussie/ hound mix; she's a resilient, one-and-a-half-year-old miracle who turned her tale of adversity into a story of hope. This lovely lady had a rough start in life, as she was found tied to a tree, left to fend for herself. This sweet girl's journey took an unexpected turn when a kind soul rescued her and discovered that she was not alone—Espresso was pregnant. She was taken in, brought to rescue and given a safe spot to have her babies.  Since then, Espresso has been on a journey of healing and rediscovery, learning to trust people and embrace the love and care she deserves. Despite facing such hardship, Espresso's spirit has not been broken; instead, she's emerged as a shining example of resilience. Espresso is a beautiful 56 lb Lab / Aussie / hound mix. (Foster DNA TESTED). Espresso is dog-selective, and seems to enjoy the company of male dogs more than females.  She does not do well with cats.   She shines brightest in the company of humans, displaying a heartwarming affection once she's had the chance to warm up to her people and realize they are not there to hurt her, but to give her love and affection.  Espresso has  proven to be good with kids in her foster home, as long as they are respectful towards her requirement to warm up first. Espresso has been fed separately in her foster home as well, as she does tend to guard her food, another effect of having been left to fend for herself for God knows how long.  We feel this girl would do best in a home with a yard so please no apartments or condos.   As you consider bringing this wonderful Lab / Aussie /hound mix into your home, be prepared to be patient and understanding, offering Espresso the time and space she needs to fully blossom into the loving, affectionate companion she's destined to become. If you're ready to open your heart and home to Espresso, please reach out to us and be a part of her journey to a brighter, happier future. Together, let's make Espresso's second chance at a forever home the warm and loving experience she deserves Espresso’s adoption fee has been sponsored by a previous adopter who took in a wonderful dog with a similar background hoping a family could also give her a chance with a family of her own. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. **If you are interested in being considered for this dog, please be sure to complete an application directly on our website - not through a 3rd party service.* Meet Brittany Ears! Her floppy ear, curly tail and sunny personality will always bring a smile to your face. Brittany (Britt for short) is approximately 3-4 months old and weighs about 20 pounds. She most likely has a bit of lab, German Shepherd, with a touch of terrier, and a sprinkling of mystery mutt. (We do not DNA test). Britt is crate trained, house broken, microchipped, up to date on her shots and is learning basic commands. She loves playing outside with the other dogs in her foster’s home; chasing balls, playing tug, splashing in her water bowl and drinking from the hose. While she had played well with her foster siblings, she does need to be the only dog in her forever home. Britt has a lot of puppy energy and would probably do best with older kids who understand how to give her space when needed. Obedience training (to help Britt be her best self) and maybe some agility training (to challenge her) would be very beneficial. Brittany Ears can’t wait to find her forever home and share adventures with her forever family. Brittany’s  adoption fee is $400.00  (Includes microchip and age appropriate vaccines) *HWMAR presents the information in these bios based on our foster observations and any information presented to us regarding prior living conditions, breed specifications. Bear is a big, handsome, senior (10-11) with distinguished grey hair adorning his face. He is a very smart boy who loves his people and his cat and dog pals. He loves going for walks (he is an active senior) and getting belly rubs. He is also trained, which is a great benefit to adopting a senior! He has some anxiety so would do best in a calm household with no young kids. He lives with dogs and cats now but would also be happy being the only dog if you don't have any other pets. To meet and potentially adopt Bear, get started by completing an adoption application at www.homesweethomepetrescue.org.
