Story
Hi friends! My name’s Kal, and I’m a 6-year-old, 67-lb Lab mix with a big ol’ heart and a serious talent for lounging in style! Everyone says I’m the easiest dog ever — and honestly, I think they’re right! I was a total staff favorite at my first shelter, and now the team at the Shelter Pet Adoption Center has fallen head over heels for me too. (What can I say? I’m kinda irresistible!) I’m living the good life in a foster home right now, and I’m doing amazing! I’m crate-trained, house-trained, and I walk like a perfect gentleman on leash. I was found hanging out in a field with another dog, but I already had a microchip, was neutered, heartworm negative, and I even know how to sit and shake! So yeah… it’s pretty clear I used to have someone who loved me — and now I’m ready to find that love again, forever this time. If you think we could be a match made in heaven, email ncteam@austinpetsalive.org or call (704) 266-3647 to meet me! I’ll be waiting (probably on the couch).

Story
Rowdy is already neutered and READY TO GO HOME!!! Meet Rowdy, our resident silver fox. Who could resist those big brown eyes and that distinguished frosted face? This charmer steals the heart of everyone he meets with his enthusiastic tail wags and gentle personality. His foster mom reports that he is the easiest dog ever; he is already potty trained, crate trained and he is happy with a few easy strolls a day. He would do anything to get belly rubs and has on occasion fallen off the couch in excitement from receiving one (embarrassing, we know.) He's also a certified couch potato and loves to lounge in a comfy spot. Is it dark outside? Well, it's his bedtime folks. If that means his bedtime is 5 o'clock in winter, so be it! Rowdy loves people and has done wonderfully with kids of all ages. He's recently started training for the first time and quickly has mastered sit and down. Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks? Rowdy would do best as the only animal in the home. No dogs, no cats-just you. After all he's been through, he deserves a peaceful life with someone who'll see what a steady, loyal fella he really is. He's waited long enough. He is heartworm positive, but heartworms are treatable, not contagious, and thanks to Friends of Wake County Animal Center, he comes with a $1,000 sponsorship to help with treatment costs. If you have room in your life for this gentle and affectionate senior, please contact his foster family at the email address aliqzwishes@gmail.com with the subject line: "Rowdy 257754" Primary Color: Black Weight: 66 Age: 7yrs 9mths 2wks

Story
Pretty Girl is not just pretty, she brings more to the party! She is potty trained, trusted to have free run in the house, loves her walks, gets along with most dogs (she doesn't care for the ones who get right in her face, but who does?), and does well with a 2-year-old human. She loves to lay in the sun soaking up the rays, loves to be pet, loves her treats and boy, she really loves butt scratches. Pretty Girl prefers to be a couch potato then a high energy dog but has plenty of good energy. She lives with 3 large dogs and is dog savvy enough to play well and let them know when they go a little too far. We don't know how she is with cats. Pretty Girl is living in a foster home but really wants a home to call her own. If you're interested in learning more about Pretty Girl, please email animalcenter@wake.gov with the subject line "Pretty Girl 257663" Primary Color: White Secondary Color: White Weight: 64 Age: 11yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
Rey is a shy, reserved pup who's been through more than she lets on. She came to us with some unknown wounds-both inside and out-but with time, care, and a lot of love, she's healing beautifully. She arrived along with a neutered, unwounded male, but so far, she prefers to coexist rather than engage in play with another male.Though cautious at first, Rey has a quiet strength that shines through in the little moments: a soft glance, a slow tail wag, the way she leans in just a bit closer each day. She's not one for loud noises or busy places, but in a calm home with a patient heart, she'll flourish.Rey was briefly tested with cats by a volunteer-she's very timid about getting in the car but then rode quietly. Not particularly interested in the cats, she was more focused on exploring the house. It's possible her reduced energy could be a result of her past injuries, so it's best to go slow and supervise her cat interactions in the beginning. In playgroups, Rey is a bit of a timid gal. She's shy and can become shutdown, even in her kennel. However, she perked up around another shy male dog though he wasn't interested in interacting. We tried pairing her with a more playful dog, but it was a bit too much for her, and she became a little squawky. We'll need to find her the "Goldilocks" partner-someone gentle and dainty, who can bring out her quiet confidence without overwhelming her.Rey is looking for someone who understands that healing takes time-and that sometimes, the quietest dogs have the most to say. If you're someone who believes in second chances and finding beauty in the gentle ones, Rey is waiting to meet you.Although she is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment. If you're interested in learning more about Rey, please send an email to front animalcenter@wake.gov with the subject line "Rey 258644" Primary Color: Brown Weight: 56.5 Age: 3yrs 8mths 4wks

Story
Hi. My name is Sam! I'm a mixed-breed labrador who is about 5-1/2 years old, weighs 60.5 pounds, heartworm negative, healthy, and happy as can be. I'm in foster care because my owner got sick and couldn't take care of me anymore, which makes me sad. However I'm full of love for my foster parents and two foster sister dogs, but I don't really like cats because I got scared by one when she hissed at swatted at me. I love playing and being with everyone and enjoy long walks. I'd really love jogging if you're into that. I'm easy-going, a quick learner (I already know 'paw', 'sit' and mostly know 'stay'), and I'm completely house trained. You can trust me if you have to leave home, but I like it better when you're with me. We'll be great friends, I know it. If you're interested in learning more about Sam, please send an email to animalcenter@wake.gov with the subject line "Sam 258322" Primary Color: Tan Weight: 62.5 Age: 6yrs 3mths 3wks

Story
Do you have a high energy pup that needs a friend to play with? Or were you a dog in a past life and love to play a good game of tug of war? Then Tobio is your guy! This sweet babe has fun puppy energy that will fill your home with laughter. Whether he's slipping on his own water spill after inhaling water or he's bunny hopping trying to engage in play, Tobio will have you laughing at his silly antics. When Tobio came into the shelter, he was a whale-eyed, terrified mess! He had to be carried into his foster mom's car and made his way to the floormats where he felt safer. However, as soon as he heard his foster siblings barking, he perked up and wanted to play. He loves to wrestle and chase his foster siblings and although he can be a little rough, he's never aggressive. In fact, he can be quite a baby when his foster chihuahua sibling yells at him.Tobio seems professionally trained when he's outside. He walks so well on a loose leash and sits when a car or other dogs pass by. When his foster mom took him to a training class, he quickly learned sit, down, touch, and kiss so he's wicked smart which is why his foster mom keeps lots of frozen engagement toys on deck to keep this smart boy occupied when crated. He is playful with dogs, has not met cats yet, and due to his puppy mouthiness and energy, Id highly recommend a home with no children. He is crate trained and seems mostly potty trained as long as his potty schedule is consistent. When visitors come over, he sleeps peacefully in his crate and sleeps in his crate from 8:30pm-7:00am.Tips for success: If you already have pets at home, please do slow introductions. This looks like walking dogs together outside so they can meet on neutral territory, letting them sniff each other through a gate for a few days until they acclimate, and supervising during the first week or two to ensure safe interactions while the pets adjust to each other's behavior. Remember the 3-3-3 rule: 3 days to adjust, 3 weeks for a pet to learn a routine, 3 months for a pet to feel at home. Please have lots of patience stored up as there is likely to be an adjustment period with any new pet. Potty trained dogs may still have accidents in the beginning. Well-behaved dogs can still tear things up when they're anxious in a new environment. With some patience, research, prep, and training, you can guarantee yourself a loyal, loving companion! Thank you for saving a life Primary Color: Black Weight: 40 Age: 0yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
Ozzie is a very smart dog and loves doing tricks for his favorite treats and getting attention, but he also appreciates just chilling near his owners and does well while owners are away on long work shifts. He is Canine Good Citizen Certified and has passed a pre agility class. He loves sniffing on walks, being brushed, and playing tug of war. He is a good listener and has amazing recall. We have Ozzie on a dry food, no chicken diet from Costco. He gets boarded at the kennel when we travel. Ozzie has started guarding his primary owner and food from guests in our home but is fine in public areas. Our home is small and guests visit quite infrequently so it is quite difficult for us to train Ozzie out of the guarding. It took him a little time to develop the guarding in our home so he will be fine initially and with regular visitors. Ozzie is also best as an only pet because he does not like to share toys with other pets, but is fine with other pets otherwise.

Story
Meet Clark Griswold—he’s ready to be the hap-hap-happiest puppy in your family! Just like his namesake from Christmas Vacation, Clark Griswold is full of heart—though this little guy is more calm and gentle than chaotic. Clark is a sweet soul who loves to chill. He’s still a baby and learning his puppy manners, so he’ll need a family committed to continuing his training and helping him grow into the best boy he can be. Clark is currently living with his sister, Stockings, an 8-year-old female black lab, and a 5-year-old human sister—and he does wonderfully with all of them. He’s respectful with the older dog, patient and gentle with the child, and shows a great foundation for being a well-rounded family pup. If you’re looking for a soft-hearted, easygoing puppy who’s ready to learn and give lots of love, Clark Griswold might just be your perfect match. Don't forget to follow Clark's foster mom's Instagram page for lots of puppy pictures and videos! @the_wellington_woofs
