Story
When Beau's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal Texas shelter, she was shocked to see the gorgeous Beau tucked tightly into a cage...his time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how beautiful (inside and out) and sweet this Poodle mix is and the need to save his life. We immediately agreed and Beau became a treasured Farfel's dog. He earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament that held every possibility for a great future. Beau is just about 9 years old, and weighs approximately 24 pounds. Beau has been fully vetted and he does have 1 eye that is fully blind, and his other eye the vet believes is not all the way blind, and he likely can still see shadows out of it. His foster mom said he gets around wonderfully and is the best boy ever! From Beau's foster: * * * * "Beau is really the perfect dog! He is mellow, so sweet, so loving, and so easy going. He is just a really really good dog. He is very quiet, and rarely barks. He is fully potty trained, he's never had a single accident in the house. He is so sweet with other dogs, and does amazing with my cats too! He also is very sweet with my kids (teenagers) 12 & 14, but I think he would be great with any kids 6+. (Sometimes he gets mildly excited about the cats and sniffs around looking for them, but has never shown aggression toward them, just seems interested. If they move quickly sometimes he will trot after them. My cats are on the cautious side about dogs and they do not appear to feel threatened and continue to move around the house freely.) He spent the first few days coming out of his shell, and when he did he showed that he is the silliest and sweetest guy ever!! On the first day in our house he learned his way around our kitchen, living room, to the back door and down some shallow steps to do his outdoor business. He remembered these routes immediately. He LOVES to take walks. He struts and wags his tail. He doesn’t pull. Walks make him happy. Whenever we encounter other dogs, he is calm and friendly. Even a puppy jumped all over him and he didn't care! He has been friendly to every single person he has met out on a walk or inside our house. I gave him a bath and a haircut and he sat through it all like a champ and seems much happier now that his hair is out of his good eye! He does so well on walks. Mostly he seems like he can see what's coming well enough, but sometimes he will fall off the edge of the sidewalk, or walk into a bush, etc. especially if it's on his bad eye side, so he just needs to be guided a little bit more sometimes. He even did well on a trail that had some uphill and downhill parts. We've done 1.5 miles straight many times with no problem at a good pace. He likes to snuggle on the sofa but is also happy lying around on the floor/dog beds. Beau sleeps all through the night quietly near my bed. I keep my bedroom door closed at night just to make sure he doesn't wander off and go towards the stairs. He is left free range in the house when home alone or with the kids with no problems. I have not seen or heard any signs of separation anxiety!" * * * * Farfel's Rescue has made the decision that we'd like to see Beau in a home with loving and devoted retirees that spends lots of time at home..or enjoy taking their furry best friend along. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for this people-loving guy. Beau is also a perfect take-along sized guy so it's easy to just scoop him up and snuggle him under your arm. Beau likes the car and is very happy strapped into his car seat to safely enjoy the ride. Beau is a non- shedding guy (and considered to be one of the most hypoallergenic breed mixes available today). He will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately every 8 - 10 weeks) and excellent nutrition. A daily salmon oil supplement coupled with 5 star food is a great regimen to keep his cottony-soft coat healthy and matte-free. Beau is available for adoption now. If interested in this gorgeous and very cuddly, loyal and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Beau, please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com.

Story
** If you are interested in adopting Biggie, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Biggie has a very engaging and sweet nature and is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. Biggie was brought into to a high-kill shelter in Texas by a detective because his owner was arrested. Biggie is now coming to Colorado to start a new life. Biggie is believed to be about 5 and a half years old, and a Maltipoo. He is 16 lbs. From Biggie's foster dad: "What a sweet boy!! He is so friendly and happy. He is potty trained too! He does really really well with other dogs, and I think he would LOVE a home with another doggy companion." Biggie would be a wonderful companion for an individual, a family, or active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with this irresistible pup that's beautiful both inside and out. Biggie will do well with any loving guardian who's invested in spending time with their dog. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure. It can be a leisurely walk socializing with neighbors, a picnic in the park or a visit with family or friends. At day's end, a spot on, or beside the bed all night next to his favorite humans will speak to the loving nature of this little dog. We'd like to place Biggie in a home where he'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Biggie has been fully vetted, is up to date on his vaccines, and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ . **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.

UPDATE 4-21-24: Check out Remy's new video on our SummitDogRescue.org website! https://www.summitdogrescue.org/meet-remy.html - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Meet Remy! He is, according to his DNA, a mix of Poodle, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Pekingese, Papillion and Rat Terrier (with maybe a touch of American Eskimo). Chihuahua and Poodle are his dominant breeds (over 25% each), and then the others are splattered in there. Despite his size, he would love an active lifestyle. This adorable little guy needs a patient, loving and calm home in order to live his best life! We suspect he was abused at some level as he has some trauma around being handled. He was adopted out but is being returned due to his handling issues, and he just isn't a right fit for his current home. Remy did great living with multiple dogs in his foster home and seems to really like dogs. He has lived with a cat and did okay, but it should be a fairly confident cat. Remy is 16 lbs. of cuteness. He's young, neutered and up to date on his vaccines. We suspect that his time before coming to rescue was not so great... He's easily startled by quick hand movements and will need people who are very conscious when petting him. He'll need a special adopter to go slowly and continue to help him feel safe. We think he'd love a quieter house, maybe with a dog or dog-savvy kitty who can hang out with him and help him learn that life is good, and that no one is going to hurt him ever again, nor will anyone force him to do anything. He doesn't like being picked up, and he doesn't feel comfortable at the veterinarian. This will take time, commitment and giving him confidence (please Google "cooperative care" to learn more). All that being said, despite being low in confidence, Remy loves being outside and going on sniff walks and exploring trails. We actually think this little guy would love to live in a rural setting and just run free on a farm, hiking and exploring trails, chasing squirrels, etc. but he could do well in suburbia with a large yard! Applicants will need to work with our behavior team to learn how to work with him and help him gain confidence (his human needs to be very open to learning!). This is included in his adoption fee of $125. For more info and/or to apply to adopt Remy, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can. Thanks.
