Story
I can’t recall a time when I’ve seen such an adorable duo. Poppy (5 lbs) and Camille (10 lbs) are 8 year old friends (maybe sisters, we aren’t sure) that are looking for their forever home together. Poppy and Camille originally came to MHCR as a transfer from a local CO shelter. They came into that shelter severely matted, teeth rotting out of their heads, and Poppy was unable to walk due to severe luxating patellas. Her matting was so bad it hid the extent of her orthopedic issues for several days. Soon, the girls got shaved, had dentals, got spayed, and their medical needs were then very, very obvious. Poppy was in need of extensive reconstruction on her back legs. They folded inwards and were unable to straighten. So, they joined a MHCR foster home and Poppy went to see an ortho vet. She soon had surgery and was finally able to ambulate on all 4 legs again! What a sight she is! Camille is an overall very healthy girl. She did have a mammary mass removed, but per pathology, it was benign. Camille is a very social, affectionate girl. She’s always the first one on a visitor’s lap soliciting love and affection. Poppy tends to stay back. Now that she can walk and run, one of Poppy’s favorite past times is chasing squirrels. Both girls enjoy taking car rides, hanging out in the backyard, sleeping in bed with their foster mom, and getting the occasional zoomies. We are seeking a forever home with at least a small yard, no shared walls, kiddos over the age of 7 (due to their size and delicate nature) and humans able to provide plenty of love, affection, and regular grooming. Both girls are dog friendly, potty pad trained, and mostly house trained. They can be slightly underfoot, an important consideration for those with mobility issues. They are a bonded pair and will only be adopted to a home together. Poppy & Camille are being fostered in Longmont, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs. * You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/poppy-camille/. Story
Tommy is a 1-2 year old, 15lb Poodle.  Tommy is from Mexico.  Once he was rescued he was groomed, and fully vetted by a wonderful rescue in Mexico.  He was then transferred to us because his rescuers knew he could find a wonderful forever family in CO.   Tommy has now been in CO a couple weeks and is totalyl ready to find his forever family.  Tommy is a sweet boy.  He gets along great with other dogs and all people.  He is in a foster home with lot of other dogs, cats, and humans.  He does find cats fun to chase, so his forever home might be best without a cat, unless they know how to tolerate a dog constantly trying to play with them.  Simon loves to follow his foster Momma around the house all the time.  He is an incredibly snuggly little man and would prefer to sleep with his people in bed (probably as the little spoon).  For being a young pup who was found on the streets on Mexico he is pretty perfect.  He is truly such a great little guy.  Tommy will need regular grooming appointments since he is a non-shedding dog. Story
Little Longhorn is a 2(ish) year old, 6lb Poodle mix.  Longhorn came from Texas where he was dumped at an overcowded shelter.   Our rescue partners in the area asked us if we could help him here in CO and we couldn't turn him away!   Longhorn has been here in our foster care for a couple weeks now and is ready to find his forever family.  His foster Momma says he is super super sweet and a bundle of fun energy.  He LOVES to play with the bigger dogs in the home and would love a big dog friend.  She has smaller dogs and cats too, and he tries to get them to play but they aren't as interested.  We want to try to place him in a home with another dog (of any size) to play with.  He loves snuggling during down time and he does sleep in bed with his fosters.  He is a snuggle bug for sure and just such a cute little boy. Story
Available to the right adopter, who is willing to continue with her training. Dawn is a precious Maltipoo that is currently being fostered with one of our dog trainers that specializes and rehabilitates timid, shy and scared dogs. She is guessed to be 6-9 years old. She is absolutely adorable and her eyes will melt your heart! Her foster mom thinks she would do better in a quiet home with adults or older children to work with her. Another confident dog could be helpful, but not necessary. Her foster mom has an amazing rehabilitation protocol to help these scared dogs and is working with her on potty training, socializing with dogs and humans, leash training, kennel training, doggie door training and if time permits, even car training. She also has an amazing group of volunteers that meet twice a week to help socialize all the scared foster dogs in her care. There are lots of other dogs at her foster moms house so we know she is dog friendly. Her foster doesn't have any cats but thinks she would be fine with them if introduced slowly and properly. She will need an adopter, who will give her love and patience. Please consider this adorable girl as a part of your family. She deserves all the kindness and will give you a lifetime of affection. The shy dogs become the most loyal dogs, who adore their humans. Her foster mom is located in Fort Collins Colorado and wants to find a patient adopter, who is willing to help her continue gaining confidence either with in person, or virtual training session(s) This training is NOT basic obedience, but instead, is designed for rescue dogs and teaches the adopter how to work to build the dogs confidence and overcome any trauma the dog may have experienced. This training will help the family and this sweet girl adjust to their new life together quicker. She will provide a discount on training. The amount of training needed (it generally takes 1-2 sessions) will depend on the knowledge and experience of the adopter and how far along the dog is in the rehabilitation training at the time of adoption.
