There's nothing like an adorable, scruffy dog! Leo found himself with 6 other dogs that are suspected to be his parents, siblings, & puppies in a small, high-kill shelter in Texas. He was very scared in the shelter at first, but decompressed and finally was ready for his transport to Colorado.
Leo is a great example of why people love both the Schnauzer and Terrier breeds. Their reputation as excellent family dogs with silly, playful and very loving temperaments is well earned. The smaller size of both the Miniature Schnauzer and Yorkshire Terrier is also considered to be very desirable...a combo of both of these wonderful breeds results in a dog like Leo that has a great temperament and a personality that is irresistible.
Note from foster:
"Leo is sooo sweet! I know from what Farfel's has told me that he was found as a stray, but I suspect that he has had a home before. He is much easier than your typical foster that is new to living in a home! He is very sweet, but he's still shy. I think he would be better with kids 10 or older. He is good with my dogs and is learning to play with them."
At just about 1 year old (such a great age..young enough to have many, many active and healthy years ahead and old enough to be beyond challenging babyish behaviors) and at 9 lbs is a perfect size to snuggle close all night long.
Since Leo is just a puppy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. He will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten followed by force-free level 1 Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in their relationship/bonding with their people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.
Leo is up to date on his shots, but has yet to be neutered. We cover the cost of his neuter at our approved Vet Clinic. This supports our work and hopes that one day dog overpopulation will become a thing of the past and therefore it will be unnecessary to euthanize a healthy dog.
Leo is coming to CO from Pampa TX. Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
