She's currently working on potty training and is crate trained, but she's the type of girl who likes to do things on Mimi time. While she may not always be the most attentive pup, Mimi enjoys being near her people and can often be found lounging on the back of the couch, quietly keeping an eye on the household. She's still adjusting to her new surroundings and learning what life as a beloved family pet is all about. One thing Mimi is very enthusiastic about? Food! She's highly motivated by people-food and has been known to climb onto chairs and even tables in search of a tasty snack. Her future family will need to help her learn appropriate boundaries and keep tempting treats out of reach. Mimi also has an adventurous side. She's frequently found checking out the front door or garage door, seemingly dreaming about her next expedition. Because of this, her family will need to be extra mindful when coming and going—if she spots an opportunity, she may try to sneak out and explore. I’m an adorable pug/Dachshund mix, and I made my way here after a stay at Bandera Animal Control—but honestly, I’m just focused on the good stuff now… like PLAYTIME. I’ve got a big personality packed into a little body, and I’m full of energy and fun. I LOVE to play. Toys? Yes, please—all of them. I’ll chase them, toss them, and keep myself (and you) entertained. I’ve always got a little bounce in my step, and I’m happiest when I’m running around or right in the middle of whatever you’re doing. I’m super friendly and love everyone I meet, so making new friends is kind of my thing. I do get excited (okay, really excited), and I might bark to let you know just how happy I am—but that’s just me being me! Life is exciting, and I’m here for it. After I’ve burned off some energy, I’m more than happy to hang out and soak up attention. I just love being part of the action. The wonderful Canine Care staff is helping me deal with the loss of my guardian and they are giving me extra loving. I lived with a cat and I also get along with dogs. I love walks, that’s the perfect way to get some fresh air, discover new smells and even bark at the wind. I’m quite affectionate so always ready to get some petting or relax on the couch with you. Nights are lonely without a family so what about me being able to sleep in my own home tonight?

This is a story that will tug at your heart. Hi. It’s me. Ava. Yes, I have the little squishy pug face. Yes, I am a middle aged lady. Yes, I am soft in every possible way. They found me wandering around Calumet City. Just out there. Alone. I am a tiny girl and the world is big. Bigger when you cannot see it very well. We think I am blind. Or close to it. What I know for sure is that I navigate with my heart. The shelter was not the place for a girl like me. Too loud. Too fast. Too much. The rescue stepped in because no one wanted me trying to survive like that. I am not a high-maintenance diva. I am a calm, docile, snuggly little lady. I move slowly. I listen carefully. I memorize the shape of a room. Once I learn it, I am good. I will toddle around like I own the place. What I really want is a person. Someone patient. Someone steady. Someone kind. Someone who does not mind being my eyes. I will follow your voice. I will lean into your legs. I will curl into you like I have known you forever. I am the kind of dog who bonds deep. Not flashy. Not chaotic. Just loyal. Devoted. Yours. If your home is quiet and your heart is open, I think we might fit together perfectly. I’m 6 months old, and I’m already trying out for best boy ever When my fosters first met me, I was the very first one to crawl over for cuddles and start handing out sweet puppy kisses—like free samples at Costco! With my soft fur, squishy little face, and loving personality, I’m pretty hard to resist. I’m not just cute—I’m smart, too! On walks, I’ve been very well behaved, and I’m practicing commands like sit, stay, and come like a little overachiever. (I might even remind you about homework ) I’m still working on potty training and getting used to foster life, but I’m trying my very best. In my crate, I’m a perfect gentleman—no mess, no destruction, just patiently waiting like a good boy. I LOVE to play and romp around, and I’m a really good house guest.
