This is a story that will tug at your heart. Hi. It’s me. Ava. Yes, I have the little squishy pug face. Yes, I am about six years old. Yes, I am soft in every possible way. They found me wandering around Calumet City. Just out there. Alone. I am a tiny girl and the world is big. Bigger when you cannot see it very well. We think I am blind. Or close to it. What I know for sure is that I navigate with my heart. The shelter was not the place for a girl like me. Too loud. Too fast. Too much. The rescue stepped in because no one wanted me trying to survive like that. I am not a high-maintenance diva. I am a calm, docile, snuggly little lady. I move slowly. I listen carefully. I memorize the shape of a room. Once I learn it, I am good. I will toddle around like I own the place. What I really want is a person. Someone patient. Someone steady. Someone kind. Someone who does not mind being my eyes. I will follow your voice. I will lean into your legs. I will curl into you like I have known you forever. I am the kind of dog who bonds deep. Not flashy. Not chaotic. Just loyal. Devoted. Yours. If your home is quiet and your heart is open, I think we might fit together perfectly. I am probably fine with dogs, cats and kids, but since I want a quiet home, I am going to try to be your solo love bug for now. Is that okay? Come be my world. I promise I will make you mine. We can't imagine what she went through when she faced uncertainty and is blind. Our hearts broke. We had to keep her safe and give her a chance at finding a loving home. Will you foster or adopt her? Meet Cocoa Belle — a seasoned sweetheart ready for her forever team Cocoa Belle, born 01/01/2020, has officially retired from breeding and is now ready to enjoy the life she deserves as a beloved family dog. While she is registered as a Pug, based on her size and the length of her muzzle, we suspect she may actually be a Puggle mix (which would include some Beagle). Either way, what matters most is her wonderful personality — and this girl truly has the best of both worlds. With her age comes a lovely balance of energy and calm. Cocoa Belle is the perfect mix of playful and relaxed, happy to enjoy some fun and attention but just as content to settle in and relax with her people. She has been around kids her entire life and understands how to respect their space without jumping up, making her an easy addition to a family home. She does great with cats, kids, and other dogs, and her adaptable personality means she could thrive with an active family or a quieter, homebody-style household. If your days are busy, Cocoa Belle will be perfectly fine holding down the fort while you’re out, then happily making the most of playtime and family time once everyone is home. Now that her mothering days are behind her, Cocoa Belle is ready to sign her forever contract and simply enjoy being loved. Story
Freddy is a complete lovebug and clown. He is great with other dogs of all sizes. LOVES kids. Good with cats. He prefers zero exercise and sleeps from 8-5 while I work from home. He is house trained, exceptionally trained in obedience (for example, you can point to a flat surface in your home and say ‘place’ and he will stay on that spot until you tell him to release) walks on a leash like the champion potato he is. He loves being around people and being on a lap, but also does great being left home for extended hours. He’s 8 and does take allergy and anxiety meds, but excepting these two things is a healthy guy. He is a wonderful dog. He has had a difficult time acclimating to the busy city and the associated noise. Particularly, he’s randomly developed an aversion to astroturf, so we have to walk several blocks which subjects him to the noise and chaos that has been overwhelming him. I’m in no rush to find him a better option and will be prioritizing finding the right fit.
