Buster is an adorable 7 year old Poodle mix weighing about 11 pounds. He came into our care after unexpected life changes left his family unable to keep him. Buster is a happy, affectionate little guy with plenty of personality. He adjusted quickly to his foster home, exploring his new surroundings, wagging his tail and happily greeting the other dogs. He's intelligent, athletic and loves to play. One of his favorite games is tossing a tennis ball into the air so you'll throw it for him again! Buster enjoys being active, but he's also an affectionate boy who loves spending time with his people and giving kisses. Buster is microchipped and looking for a loving forever home where he'll have plenty of opportunities to play, have fun and be part of the family. He has lots of love and personality packed into his little 11 pound body and is ready to share it with someone special. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Meet Caesar! This handsome 2-year-old, 75-pound boy was found wandering in the country with no one to claim him. Thankfully, a kind neighbor contacted the shelter after a few days, and Caesar is now ready for his next chapter. After a dna test we found out Caesar is 50/50 Poodle and Great Pyrenees. When he arrived, his coat was quite matted, but underneath it all was a healthy, happy boy who had clearly known love at some point—he’s already neutered and seems to be house trained. Caesar is friendly, gentle, and eager for attention. He’ll thrive with a family ready to give him the care, grooming, and affection he deserves. We rescued him from a shelter when he was about 6 months old. In the 5+ years we've had him, he's been a good, loyal, energetic, and well-fed boy. However, after we had a baby, circumstances became much more challenging. He's perpetually anxious, jealous, and often possessive/triggered by our toddler/her toys. Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn’t necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Okay in the city?We don’t know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs. Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats?Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds. Comfortable with children? Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees?Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
