Thier Foster Parent Says: "Bruno is the sweetest, most gentle giant. We think he might have some Great Dane in him because he is happiest laying on the couch all day or on his humans receiving pets and love. When he’s forced to get up, he happily follows you outside and does a great job interacting with the elements in NYC. He's very friendly with other dogs of all shapes and sizes and loves playing with them. He plays a little bit with toys inside, but he’s slightly awkward and walks carefully on non-carpeted floors. He's also a little skiddish of new places/stores and needs a nudge to explore new stores but he’s making progress quickly. It also took him a couple of days to get used to apartment stairs, but he has now mastered them. He’s a very tall lanky boy so it’s probably just a function of his size, but once he trusts you he follows you everywhere no matter what. He is very agreeable and comfortable with all touch including wiping paws after walks and baths. He is great on walks and follows direction really well, but needs to be guided or held close on busy streets since he takes up so much room! He figured out how to go potty outside immediately so no worries of accidents here. He also eats very well, but isn't particularly food motivated which is nice since he’s so tall (no counter surfing here!)Bruno is an amazing, once in a lifetime pup!"
Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.)
Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)
City pup – Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, may as well have been born here. He’s something in between adjusting and city pup. He is doing really well in the city but there are some things he’s still getting used to like loud loud noises or going into stores/coffee shops. But once he’s inside the apartment the street noises don’t bother him and he doesn’t get too bothered by large crowds.
POTTY TRAININGYes – Few or no accidents
COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERS Social butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello.
BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision) Yes for most ages – very confident, gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthyHe could totally be a nanny dog he’s so sweet.
SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines
RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.) Probably yes but we haven’t interacted with cats. He doesn’t get bothered by or want to chase pigeons.
MOUTHY BEHAVIOR Past this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in their mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime
SEPARATION ANXIETYPast this stage – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or exhibit destructive behavior when you leave the apartment or house.
LEASH MANNERS Getting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction.
CUDDLE BUG LEVELHigh – Wants to be in your lap pretty much all the time
JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLOCalm Greetings – Doesn’t jump up on people or dogs. Always all four on the floor.
CRATE TRAININGNot at all – Don’t even have one, I’ve puppy proofed and we free range.
Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake
How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
