Story
Poppy is 10 years old and weighs around 20 pounds. We adopted her as a 3 month old puppy. Sadly, while we would love nothing more than to keep her, we need to rehome her due to a change in our family / home situation and our ability to continue to care of her. She is spayed and healthy. She is a really playful, happy and inquisitive dog who loves to befriend anyone and everyone. She is best suited for a home where she is the only pet or maybe one smaller dog or cat if they happen to get along. She is friendly with children but tends to do better with older children. She is a good companion dog and needs only one short walk a day or goes to backyard as needed. She’s also fully trained not to destroy any furniture, household objects or clothes (although she may steal your socks if you keep them within reach!). Please email Goodday990@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting her.

Story
Looks like: Yorkie, Chihuahua mix Female, 10 years old (estimated), 5 pounds Don't let the tiny size fool you, Sesame is jam packed with charm. This adorably petite girl is short, a little pudgy, and absolutely irresistible. With her compact body and sweet face, she looks like a tiny loaf of love just waiting for cuddles. Sesame is a certified couch potato who takes relaxation very seriously. Her favorite hobbies include lounging next to her people, supervising TV time, and perfecting the art of cozy naps. But when it's time for a walk, Sesame surprises everyone by getting those little legs moving! She enjoys leisurely strolls and is happy to trot along as your tiny walking buddy. One of Sesame's best qualities is her friendly, easygoing nature. She does wonderfully with other dogs and even gets along great with cats. Her gentle personality makes her a fantastic companion in many types of homes. Sesame joined us after she was surrendered to Santa Cruz County Animal Services when her guardians found they could no longer keep up with her care.

Story
Meet Harbor! Harbor is the definition of a soft-hearted good boy with main-character energy. He’s a sweet, soulful pup who brings the perfect balance of playful adventure and cozy couch vibes. One minute he’s happily exploring the world nose-first on a walk, the next he’s clocked in for a serious nap—preferably near his favorite people. This smart guy is currently working on potty training and catching on quickly with consistency and encouragement. He thrives with gentle guidance and positive reinforcement, and in a calm, focused environment (especially as an only dog), he truly shines. Harbor loves walks, dog park adventures, mealtime (a highlight of his day), and soaking up all the cuddles he can get. Harbor can be a little shy at first—especially around men—and appreciates patience while he builds trust. Around most women, he’s confident, affectionate, and happy to show off his loving personality. He’s also still getting used to wearing a harness, so slow, gentle handling helps him feel safe and supported as he gains confidence. At his core, Harbor is deeply people-oriented and full of love to give. He’d thrive in a home that offers daily walks, lots of attention, and a healthy mix of playtime and snuggle sessions. Adults or families who understand that he may need a little time to warm up—and are happy to meet him with kindness and encouragement—will get a loyal, joyful companion in return. Story
Looks like: Yorkshire Terrier Male, 10 years old (estimated), 10 pounds Meet Casper, the friendly pup! This senior lad is full of energy and loves to play with toys. He is a joyful guy with a big heart who is happy to tag along wherever you go. Sadly, Casper was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. Without treatment, his prognosis is only a few months to live. We are choosing to give him the best chance possible, so he is undergoing cancer treatment at a specialist in the Monterey area. Based on his energy and enthusiasm, you would never know he is fighting a serious illness! If his adopters are willing to continue bringing him to treatment appointments in Monterey post-adoption, POMDR will cover the cost of his treatment (approx. 288 days). While Casper is very friendly and social, he is working on resource guarding from both people and other dogs. While he does well with his foster pup sibling, we think he would also love to be an only dog where he doesn't have to share his toys. Casper does great around cats. He is looking for a forever home where he can float right into your heart (and toy bin). Handsome Casper joined us from the Animal Resource Center of the Inland Empire. He was brought in as a stray. Due to his senior status, they felt he would do best in a senior focused rescue.

Story

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $600 Paperback is a 4 year old, 9 lb Yorkie mix who is quietly rewriting his story one small, brave step at a time. Rescued from the shelter, Paperback came into foster care shy and unsure, but beneath that cautious exterior is a truly gentle soul who is learning that the world — and the people in it — can be kind.   Paperback’s days follow a comforting routine that helps him feel secure. He wakes up around 7:00 a.m. and heads into the backyard for a quick potty break, then settles onto his favorite bed to calmly observe the morning activities around him. Breakfast is at 8:00 a.m., followed by a few hours of napping. Later in the day, he enjoys spending time in the yard, where he likes to sunbathe and occasionally sniff around. His afternoons include more rest, short training sessions, and quiet companionship. Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. (he can be a little picky and may skip a meal now and then), and by 9:00 p.m. he’s happily curled up on his favorite bed next to his people for the night.   When Paperback first arrived, he was trembling and frozen with fear, unsure of what was expected of him. Rather than fleeing, he would quietly stay in place, hoping for gentleness — and that gentleness has made all the difference. In just a week, he has shown beautiful progress. He has learned that treats, soft voices, gentle pets, and slow movements are good things. He now approaches when a hand is offered, carefully but willingly, and has even begun to enjoy very soft, gentle snuggles. One of his sweetest habits is coming over to sniff feet when someone is sitting nearby, a quiet way of saying he wants to connect.   Paperback is a thoughtful observer and a willing learner. He loves treats and is motivated by them, which has helped him engage in training even when he feels unsure. While he isn’t a Velcro dog, he does enjoy knowing where his people are and may softly whine for a few seconds if someone leaves the room. He is content spending time relaxing on his bed or in the yard, and his most energetic moments come when treats are tossed and he happily trots off to collect them.   He currently lives with a small, confident resident dog and has been learning by watching him. Paperback takes cues from this dog to better understand humans and routines in the home, and he has begun eating meals alongside him and even sniffing toys during playtime. A confident, playful canine companion could be a wonderful influence for him in his future home.   Paperback is fully house-trained and has had zero accidents in his foster home. He does not chew, dig, bark, or display destructive behaviors. In fact, his foster has yet to hear him bark at all — he communicates instead with the occasional soft whine when he needs something or feels momentarily unsure. He was previously fostered with a cat and is an option for a cat-owning home as well.   Leash walking is still a work in progress, and Paperback hasn’t gone on formal walks yet. For now, he feels safest enjoying yard time and building confidence at his own pace. With patience and continued positive reinforcement, his comfort with the leash can grow just like the rest of his skills have.   Paperback does well with respectful children and is especially comfortable around calm energy. He is less nervous around older kids who understand how to give him space and allow him to approach on his own terms.   The ideal home for Paperback is one with patient, understanding adopters who are willing to continue helping him come out of his shell. A calm household, children over 8 who can respect his boundaries, and possibly a confident canine companion would be wonderful fits for him.   What makes Paperback truly special is the sweetness he carries beneath his shyness. He is learning to trust again, and each day brings small but meaningful victories. One favorite moment is his morning potty routine, when he bursts into brief, joyful zoomies before trotting proudly back into the house, clearly pleased with himself.   Paperback is a tender-hearted dog with so much love to give. With patience, kindness, and time, he is blossoming into a loyal, affectionate companion — and the best chapters of his story are still ahead.March 7, 2026, 8:14 pm
