Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Potato Chip is a 6 month Terrier mix who was surrendered to our rescue when his owners could no longer care for him. He was a bit timid when he first arrived but is coming out of his shell thanks to his foster! Here is their report. Potato wakes up around 7:45am and I let him out into the backyard to do his business. Then I give him a 1/2 cup of kibble for breakfast. I give him another 1/2 cup around 1-2pm and then another around 6-7pm. During the day, he runs around the house and plays with his toys, then once he wears himself out he’ll take a short nap, and then repeat until my workday is over. I leave the back door open so he can go out as needed to relieve himself as he is still learning the concept of walking on a leash. In the evening he likes to cuddle with me and also climb all over me and give me kisses as I sit on the couch with him. Then at night he sleeps in his bed or crate inside the X pen.   When Potato first arrived, he was very shy, cautious, and skittish. He didn’t want to come out of his crate and would back away as I approached him. Once he got acclimated, he’s the most playful, energetic, and loving pup. He loves to jump into my lap and give me kisses when I bend down to pet him, and he loves to be held and carried around like a baby. He is definitely a cuddler. He’ll come to me for attention and kisses when I’m nearby or when I look at him, but he’s not necessarily a Velcro dog as he can be independent if I go upstairs.   Potato will need more training to get used to walking on a leash. I have been able to get him out for a very short walk a few times but most of the time, as soon as the leash goes on, he sits or even lies down and pulls and refuses to move. Sometimes when I pick him up and carry him for a little bit then put him down, he will walk for a little while. When I walked him with my friend’s dog, he did the best because he was following the lead of the other dog and was more comfortable.   Potato is crate trained and likes his crate. He knows to go outside to potty when I have the back door open, but I think he is not able to hold it for long, and he leaks when he gets excited. At night or when I am not home, I leave him in an X pen and for the most part he goes on the potty pads.   Potato is the cutest, sweetest, and most loving little pup. He wants to learn and tries so hard to be brave - it’s adorable. He’s got a playful energy but is also a great cuddler.   Potato Chip is looking for a home that will continue his training and socialization. He would be a great fit for a home with another dog who can be his buddy and show him the ropes. He is only an option for a home with prior recent dog experience. He is best suited to a home with kids over the age of 8, as younger ones may frighten him.  June 4, 2023, 7:54 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Muffler is a 4-5 month old Yorkie-Italian Greyhound mix who weighs about 10 lbs. He was a rescue from the shelter. He was a bit timid when he first came to DPS- everything was new to him- but he's settled into his foster home and is having a blast now! Here is their report. Muffler has made huge strides since he first arrived at our home. He got spooked very easily in the beginning and tended to stress-bark at people and dogs when out on walks. NOW, he doesn’t seem bothered by others on our walks, and will even approach strangers for pets and attention! He’s very friendly and affectionate. He will sit in your lap and cuddle and soak up all the love.   Muffler is smart, curious and definitely in the teething phase, which means he loves his chew toys! He sleeps in a crate at night. He has a bed in the crate along with chew toys and a blanket. The door is left open during the day and he often will go into the crate on his own to rest; it's his little den and his comfort place. We go out for a walk around 7 am for about half a mile. After his walk he is fed and has some “play time” with the me. He is a grazer, so we leave his food out during the day and he eats when he's hungry. We go for another walk around 7 pm (about a mile) and put him into his crate for bed at around 10:30 pm.   Muffler is housebroken at our home now and will let me know when he needs to go outside, and I give him access to a potty pad just in case. I do take him out every 2-3 hours or so since he's still young and can't hold it for a long time. He has a lot of energy, is very alert, smart and loves to play outdoors, but make sure your fencing is secure, because he's also a bit of an escape artist and can squeeze his tiny body through holes!   Muffler plays with all sorts of sizes of balls: 1 smaller than a tennis ball, a tennis ball size and 1 much larger than himself. Pretty much everything is a toy to this silly little dude! Muffler would love to play with other dogs. We don't have a dog at home, but we took him over to a friend's and he had a blast running around with their dog! Muffler is only an option for a home with recent prior dog experience. He is an option for kids over the age of 5.June 4, 2023, 7:54 pm

Story
Melody is bonded with Doc, so will need to be adopted together. Please acknowledge this in your application. Any without this acknowledgement will immediately be declined. We got Melody when she was just a few months old, and 12 years later she's still one of the sweetest, most loving dogs out there. She likes to relax and snore away on her bed or on the couch, by herself or with or Doc or anyone really. She's sad when you leave the house, but so happy to see you when you return. She could use more attention and outside/play time. Overall a great companion and lap dog for someone with a healthy amount of free time and love to give.
