K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Meet Titan! Titan is the sweetest Yorkie gentleman with eyelashes that will melt any heart and manners better than most people on their best behavior. Because his humans are military and being stationed in Asia, they made the heartbreaking but responsible choice to get him into a rescue that can find him a family who will love him as much as they have. Titan is a sweet boy who loves snuggles and affection. He has been deeply loved, well cared for, and it shows. This lil’ king recently got a diagnosis of PLE (Protein-Losing Enteropathy ~ basically when the GI tract says “what if… we didn’t keep protein?”). But his loving family caught it early, got him on meds, switched his diet, and he is currently healthy and thriving. All he needs is a place to call home once again. Titan is approximately 10 years old and 7 lbs. More details to follow as we get to know him better. Fostered in Bristow, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Chuck (aka Prince Chuck)! Chuck is a Yorkie-with-legs (a Yorkie LOW model, if you will) and he’s already winning hearts everywhere he goes. This handsome gent was surrendered in rural West Virginia and transferred to us from our friends at Potomac Highlands Animal Rescue. Chuck adores people and loves to be near them as much as possible. A little hard of hearing? Maybe. A little too skinny? Definitely ~ but he’s making up for lost meals by taking mealtime very seriously. (Current kibble approval rating: 1 out of 3. He’s a discerning diner.) Chuck adores humans and has advanced degrees in snuggling, lap-warming, and shadowing. When he knows lap-time is imminent, he'll jump for joy to celebrate. Chuck enjoys leash walks and rides well in the car, but he especially loves frolicking in the grass, rolling on his back while kicking his legs in the air. No grass around? The carpet will do just as well. He also enjoys some low-key parkour, jumping on and off the couch and leap-frogging the end table. Chuck still working on his potty training but is doing well with a belly band. He generally sleeps through the night, happily snoozing in his crate. He loves sunbathing and taking naps, and wakes up with the cutest bedhead every time. He has a bit of a thyroid condition but doesn't mind taking his meds - as long as you put them in something tasty, that is. Chuck would do best in a home without too many stairs, and thrives on love, structure, and routine. Being the royalty he is, Chuck prefers to be the center of attention and would love to have his human(s) all to himself. However, he could successfully live with another dog if he's given time and space to get to know them. He's done well with the older children he's met; we're not sure about younger children. This tiny gentleman with great taste is ready for his forever home. Apply today to meet him - he won't be on the market for long! Chuck is approximately 10 years old and 12 lbs. Story
Meet Douglas, aka Dougie! This tenderhearted gentleman is a heartbreaker in the making. Dougie was loved dearly by his devoted human for 13 years. Sadly, his person recently moved into a nursing home and Dougie couldn't go with. He is now looking for his own equivalent - a place where he can spend his golden years being loved and cared for. The change was hard for Dougie at first - he spent his first few weeks in foster in self-imposed solitude, mostly napping or staring wistfully into space (a true philosopher of the canine world). But little by little, step by step, Dougie has made huge strides coming out of his shell. When his foster mom is nearby, he now walks towards her, wagging his tail and looking for head pats, ear rubs, and back scratches. And instead of sleeping all day, he now confidently explores his foster home. The backyard is his favorite - he adores being outside in the sun, especially visiting Mr. Bunny (who is a statue, and who Dougie appreciates because he's always where he says he will be, every time). Dougie's hearing and vision aren’t great, so every touch still surprises him a bit. He's looking for a quiet, patient, gentle, adults-only home with humans who will take it slow with him, letting him acclimate at his own pace while cheering him on as he makes progress becoming more active and outgoing. An independent man, Dougie is not big on snuggling right now - this may or may not change as he gets more comfortable. A fenced-in yard is a must for this sun worshipper - he's not leash-trained nor is he looking to be. He'll need to be carried up and down steps and would do best in a home where his humans are around most or all of the day to let him out for frequent yard excursions and sniffaris. He is basically housebroken but benefits from having pee pads available just in case. He generally sleeps through the night and is fine staying home alone if his people need to step out for errands. Dougie is a good boy who has hit some hard times. Can you give him the soft landing he deserves? Douglas is approx 13 years old and 6 lbs. Fostered in Gaithersburg,MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org
