Story
We have a wide range of sizes, breeds, and personalities who have been waiting for a long time to find homes in which to live out their lives. All have been vet-checked, spayed/neutered and updated on shots. Some are in great health and hopefully will have many years to enjoy with their new owners... others are being treated for some medical issues and need some extra care to keep them happy and comfortable for whatever time they have left. We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions. Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Story
Meet Reeses, as in Reese’s Pieces 🍬 When we first met her she was terrified and wanted to rip us to pieces, but give her a few days and she will love you to pieces instead! Nothing is more rewarding than earning the trust of these scared little ones whose instinct is to lash out when scared, and watching their entire personality change once they realize they can trust you. This under 2 year old scruffy yorkie/Shih tzu mix has plenty of reason to be so distrustful. Her owner never socialized her with other people and would go on vacations and leave her alone in her apartment for days at a time. One day she got evicted and just left this scared little girl behind. Luckily authorities found her before it was too late and healthwise she’s just fine. Her emotional trauma from being left alone so much and getting proper socialization as a puppy are much harder to overcome. Once she loves you, there is no better snuggler. If she could somehow melt into you or fuse herself to your lap like some kind of siamese twin she would do it in a heartbeat. Velcro dog isn’t a strong enough term, she’s more like a magnet 🧲 who will do whatever it takes to get to her person. No gate can hold her, she climbs out of any expen, leaps or squeezes through extra tall baby gates (we haven’t witnessed all of her magical escapes, just know she’s always somehow popping up places she’s not supposed to be 😆). Luckily she’s (grudgingly) cratable though not quietly and will need some practice being left alone- it takes her some time screaming out her protests but she does eventually settle and go to sleep. Unless you want to come home and find her walking around on top of your kitchen counter or refrigerator like a cat we definitely recommend sticking with the crate training. Reeses is looking for a patient adult home that will love this crazy little monkey 🙉 flying squirrel 🐿️ cat 🐈 hybrid, for better or worse, and have a sense of humor about her antics and adventurous spirit. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reeses in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Frankie wants you to know he’s enjoying being able to see with the mats trimmed from over his eyes! He’s been neutered so his breeding days are over at last, and needed a bunch of teeth pulled during his dental due to premature decay from his living conditions. He’s under 10lbs, a Yorkiepoo, 3 years old, and shy but inquisitive. He loves the ladies and is looking for a calmer adult home with at least one other compatible doggie friend in the household. He was rescued from a puppy mill so walking on leash, housebreaking, and living in a real home are all foreign concepts to him right now and he will need some patience as he adjusts. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet him in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Friendly Bella has had her medical work up and is ready for a home! This sweet 9 year old has a heart murmur and some heart disease, and her echo showed that she should be on one daily medication (pimobendan) longterm to help keep her heart ticking as long as possible. She’s a “young senior” at heart though, loves toys and walks and is a fun little 12lbs terrier mix. She does well meeting dogs but seems to prefer male dogs to live with or would be fine as an only dog. She’s lived with cats previously and done well. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet Bella in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Hi my name is Sweetie because I am just that.  You won't find a sweeter little girl than me.  I am a 7 year old 11 lbs yorkie mix who loves everyone.  I was surrendered to Critter Cavalry with my brother and sister when our family could no longer take care of us.  We were very sad at first but once we settled in we realized what it was like to truly be taken care of and to be loved.  We are enjoying life now and ready to find our forever homes.  My ideal home would be with a family or even a single lady who would worship and spoil me.  I am so deserving of that and will love you back 100 times over.  I am a young lady looking for a pampered life of luxury.  Who doesn't want that!!  I would love a home with a little friend that I could hang out with and play with when you are not home.  I am a social girl so I would benefit from a companion.  What would be better than 2 of us to cuddle with.  You will find that I am a little cuddle bug who will want to be right with you.  I hope there is a place on the sofa or chair for me to snuggle next to you and at night please make room for me.  Cold weather is right around the corner and I will keep you nice and warm.  I hope you will apply to add me to your family.  I have been spayed and am current on all my shots, on monthly preventative and microchipped.  To be considered for my forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (I am currently in Tennessee but can be transported north upon adoption.)September 9, 2024, 5:10 pm

Story
Meet Rambo!  You will never meet a more handsome little guy.  Rambo is a special yorkshire terrier--a Biewer Terrier.  (The Biewer Terrier is a toy dog of German descent that is the result of two Yorkshire Terriers with a recessive piebald gene breeding. It is usually kept as a companion animal or a show dog. The Biewer Terrier was recognized by the AKC in 2021. Wikipedia)  This little one just exeudes personality.  He even posed for his pictures.  Rambo is 13 weeks old and just full of life.  He LOVES to play and has the best time running and playing with two of his foster brothers.  They don't skip a beat.  So a fenced in yard and another small young dog are a must for Rambo's forever home.  Watching him run and play just makes you smile.  When not running and playing Rambo will settle down for a nap. Once he is rejuvenated he is up and at it again.  Rambo also enjoyes naps on the sofa right beside you.  He will also curl up for loving and to watch a good movie.  Hopefully you enyoy a daily walk or two as Rambo is great on a leash and loves to show himself off.  Rambo is also good in the car and can be a nice little co-pilot.  If you are looking for a super sweet buddy for your 2 and 4 legged family then you have found him.  Rambo is scheduled to be neutered and complete his vetting on 9/9.  He will then be ready for his forever home.  To be considered for his forever family and to request an application please contact Vivienne directly at viviennejames@comcast.net.  APPROVED APPLICATION AND ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.  (Rambo is in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)September 9, 2024, 5:10 pm
