Story
We are going to be honest, Alex is kind of a major jerk. We may have a new contender for our worst dog. We almost understand why his owners came up with some lame excuse that they were moving and ran away. He doesn’t make a good first impression. Or second or third, he’s not a fan of strangers. If you give him lots of treats and leave him alone for a few days he does warm up, and then can be quite sweet and lovable on his terms. But you probably won’t be able to touch him when you come to meet him, and after that you will have to ask him what kind of mood he’s in depending on the time of day. Needs expensive twice-daily eye drops for life which you have to pay him with rotisserie chicken to allow you to apply. Your vet and groomer will stop answering your calls because he’s terrorized their staff. He was never really housebroken either so will need some confinement and structure to get him on a schedule. He is an active little terrier who thinks he’s still a spunky youngster and not a quiet calm lap dog type at all. His good qualities? Hmm… Well he’s cute to look at. And non shedding. And… nope that’s all we can think of. Reduced adoption fee! Don’t all apply at once now, we don’t want our email to crash. If you are still reading this, please email njwoof@cs.com if you like a challenge and for some weird reason would like to meet Alex and give a home a dog no one else would ever want. We would really love for him to find the right home, this guy has a lot of potential if you are patient and there will be no one more loyal and attentive once you have passed his tests and earned his trust. Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we can schedule socially distant appointments with a specific dog outdoors at our vet’s office: VCA Morris Plains Animal Hospital 3009 Rt 10 East Morris Plains (Denville on GPS) NJ 07950 Now is the perfect time to open your home to a needy dog! Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet our teeniest adoptable Nayla, an 6lb, 2 year old combo of yorkie, chi, and Shih tzu (we think), and was the most scared and defensive of the 5 dogs recently rescued from one home that no longer wanted them. She loves to sleep next to you and cuddle in bed, but still has her panicked moments about handling or being picked up at times and turns into a ferocious little porcupine with teeth everywhere, then transforms back into a soft squishy little stuffed animal when she feels safe. There’s no in between with her- she’s either cuddly and lovable or untouchable and needs time to reset herself. She tolerates other calm dogs but there seemed to be a lot of arguing and competition for food and attention among the 5 little dogs so she might prefer to be an only at this point, or dogs that give her space, as she’s pretty snarky with others. Adults only for sure. She’s not completely non-shedding due to the chihuahua in her mix so likely wouldn’t be a good match for allergy sufferers. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet our adorable Nayla in northern NJ Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we can schedule socially distant appointments with a specific dog outdoors at our vet’s office: VCA Morris Plains Animal Hospital 3009 Rt 10 East Morris Plains (Denville on GPS) NJ 07950 Now is the perfect time to open your home to a needy dog! Story
Meet Rylie the 🦄 Unicorn! This little senior yorkie with the stylish hairdo was surrendered because it was too much to take care of her after the arrival of a new baby. She’s only 5.5 lbs right now and a bit underweight but a tiny little girl who otherwise seems to be in pretty good shape. She’s said to be about 10 years old but could pass for half her age. Rylie hasn’t lived with other animals but so far seems just fine with other calmer little ones who aren’t too overwhelming or in her face, but mostly she just wants to be held by her people. She can be a bit nervous with new people and her owners said she would do her own little temperament assessment and pick and choose who she thought was safe and who she wouldn’t let touch her, but once she loves you she loves you unconditionally. She was used to wee wee pads mostly but would have accidents and will need some work on housebreaking, and would go outside also when they had time to walk her. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Rylie by appointment in Northern NJ Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we can schedule socially distant appointments with a specific dog outdoors at our vet’s office: VCA Morris Plains Animal Hospital 3009 Rt 10 East Morris Plains (Denville on GPS) NJ 07950 Now is the perfect time to open your home to a needy dog! Story
Woodrow is a senior boy who is looking for a special adopter who will give him the care he requires for his health issues. He is a 13-year-old Yorkie mix who weighs 25 pounds and, as you can see in his "before" photo, he has definitely suffered a lot of neglect in his previous life.  Woodrow is a sweet guy but he can be grumpy if startled. He is okay with other dogs and has shown no interest in the cats in his foster home. He is a low energy boy who is happy to just "hang out" all day. He cannot "do" stairs so he must be carried outside for bathroom breaks unless you've got one-level living space. So a bit about his health issues...Woodrow has chronic skin infections which require medication as well as medicated baths & regular grooming. This poor boy also had both eyes removed last year.  We are really hoping that someone wonderful and loving and patient will look beyond these issues and see the special boy that Woodrow is and give him a chance at a loving retirement home. If you'd like to meet Woodrow when he arrives in NJ, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for him by name, WOODROW TX!  June 5, 2023, 9:32 pm

Story
Crosby is a sweet, little male Yorkie born on 10/30/22. He loves to play, loves his toys and gets along with everyone. He is up to date on vaccinations and is being fostered in Arkansas. His adoption fee is $1000 and the transport fee $165. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
