They are adorable, little sweeties who are housetrained, love to be in your lap, enjoy playing with toys and are crate trained. They are a BONDED PAIR, meaning that they must be adopted together because they love each other so very much. This duo loves other dogs and children and would love to be part of your family. Baby Girl and Jeter were surrendered to Animal Control when their owner went into hospice care.  Jeter is now neutered and just had a dental, Baby Girl is spayed and had a dental too, and both are current on shots. Story
PLEASE READ BELOW FOR OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION LINK MEET NORBERT the Yorkie North New Jersey Norbert is a 7lb, 10+ yo 100% Yorkie gentleman. Norbert is the sweetest little guy. He LOVES to snuggle his person and would love to find someone to hang out with all day. He is very friendly and easy to care for—uses potty pads or will go outside in the yard or for a short walk, sleeps a lot and is quiet until it’s time to eat then he reminds you with a little chirp. He is happy to do his own thing (sleeping in a doggie bed) if you are busy or out of the house. But ideally he would love to have someone around most of the day to enjoy retirement with. Norbert is UTD, HW negative, was neutered and had a dental with 17 extractions, full blood work and xrays. He has a little heart murmur but is in great shape for an older gentleman. He is a VERY good eater and a tiny little thing at only 7 lbs. He was very good for our vet and for grooming. Norbert has so much love to give and is ready to find his person. If you are interested in a snuggle buddy please fill out an application on our website, details are below. Please note we do not reply to all applications we receive, unfortunately we do not have the bandwidth to do so at this time. We only reply if we would like to move forward with your application. Thank you very much in advance for your understanding!! His adoption donation is $450. TO BE CONSIDERED, PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION We only process complete applications and providing false information immediately disqualifies you from adopting. https://gingerbreaddogs.org/adopt-overview/adoption-application/ Please follow our Facebook page to see new dogs as they arrive and to keep up on the daily shenanigans: https://www.facebook.com/gingerbreaddogs ABOUT OUR PROCESS: WE ONLY CONTACT APPLICANTS WITH WHOM WE WANT TO MOVE FORWARD. We typically get in touch within 24-48 hours, but it may take up to 10 days. Please watch your email and answer your phone (from 201 area code) after you submit an application. Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to reply to all applicants. We also do not have the manpower to accept phone calls. Everything we know about the dog is posted above. Our adoption process is on our website. You can see more about our daily operations on our Facebook page. PLEASE call your vet office right now and give them permission to speak with rescues if you are applying to adopt from any rescue. Ask them to mark your file. If they will not speak with us, we will move on to the next application and you will not be considered. We consider out-of-area adoptions on a case-by-case basis. All meet & greets and adoptions are held in north New Jersey, and we do not transport our pups. You must come to NJ. We also do not “hold” dogs. It is “first qualified, first come” and our expectation is you will move quickly to conduct the meet & greet if you are approved. An approved application does not guarantee adoption of any dog from our rescue, and we reserve the right to deny adoption at any point during the process.

We have a wide range of sizes, breeds, and personalities who have been waiting for a long time to find homes in which to live out their lives. All have been vet-checked, spayed/neutered and updated on shots. Some are in great health and hopefully will have many years to enjoy with their new owners... others are being treated for some medical issues and need some extra care to keep them happy and comfortable for whatever time they have left. We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions. Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Story
Meet Reeses, as in Reese’s Pieces 🍬 When we first met her she was terrified and wanted to rip us to pieces, but give her a few days and she will love you to pieces instead! Nothing is more rewarding than earning the trust of these scared little ones whose instinct is to lash out when scared, and watching their entire personality change once they realize they can trust you. This under 2 year old scruffy yorkie/Shih tzu mix has plenty of reason to be so distrustful. Her owner never socialized her with other people and would go on vacations and leave her alone in her apartment for days at a time. One day she got evicted and just left this scared little girl behind. Luckily authorities found her before it was too late and healthwise she’s just fine. Her emotional trauma from being left alone so much and getting proper socialization as a puppy are much harder to overcome. Once she loves you, there is no better snuggler. If she could somehow melt into you or fuse herself to your lap like some kind of siamese twin she would do it in a heartbeat. Velcro dog isn’t a strong enough term, she’s more like a magnet 🧲 who will do whatever it takes to get to her person. No gate can hold her, she climbs out of any expen, leaps or squeezes through extra tall baby gates (we haven’t witnessed all of her magical escapes, just know she’s always somehow popping up places she’s not supposed to be 😆). Luckily she’s (grudgingly) cratable though not quietly and will need some practice being left alone- it takes her some time screaming out her protests but she does eventually settle and go to sleep. Unless you want to come home and find her walking around on top of your kitchen counter or refrigerator like a cat we definitely recommend sticking with the crate training. Reeses is looking for a patient adult home that will love this crazy little monkey 🙉 flying squirrel 🐿️ cat 🐈 hybrid, for better or worse, and have a sense of humor about her antics and adventurous spirit. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reeses in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Rubble (rhymes with trouble) a scruffy 7 month old little terrier mix who was abandoned in a carrier by a dumpster as a scared little puppy. We thought about naming him Dumpster Fire since his entire life has been one giant one 🗑️ 🔥, but that sounds a little awkward to be out in your yard yelling randomly. Adopted by a very loud bush active family with a pack of young boisterous children that would not leave him alone, he defending himself the only way an adorable 10lbs puppy who looks like a stuffed animal but definitely didn’t want to be treated that way could 😖. And them his owners were determine to have this awful pup euthanized and out of their house ASAP! He’s learned to protect his space, food, and resources, is very hand shy and on guard but once he realizes you aren’t an annoying toddler trying to pull his tail and you aren’t going to scream at him for protecting himself from the wild pack of children, he melts into a fun playful cuddly puppy. He’s given us no issues at all and fallen in line with the other dogs, so we see great potential in him. He’s right at that age where there’s still time to turn his life around in the right environment and with the right force-free training and socialization, but he needs someone committed to rebuilding his faith that his person will defend him so he doesn’t have to. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: Captain GumballBREED: Yorkshire TerrierDOB: Jul 7, 2025 GENDER: maleHome Recommendation: Captain Gumball would thrive in an active home that can keep up with his playful, energetic personality. Hes a goofy guy who loves interactive games and would do especially well with a family who enjoys fetch sessions, tug of war, or anything that lets him burn off energy both indoors and outside. Because he sometimes jumps when excited, a home that can continue his consistent training and provide clear guidance will help him keep improving. While hes full of zoomies and fun, he also appreciates cuddle time and belly rubs, making him a great match for someone who wants both an adventure buddy and a snuggly companion. A household that can offer structure, engagement, and plenty of play would be perfect for him as he continues to build confidence.Personality: Captain Gumball is very sweet and gentle with kids. He loves other dogs and gets especially excited when he sees dogs he knows from his regular walks. He has a wonderful, friendly temperament.KIDS: YesDOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Captain Gumball has improved significantly with crate training, especially now that he sleeps in the crate at night. He still enjoys going in on his own for naps. His nighttime routine has become smoother. We keep the crate door open but block off the area to create a small setup with his bed, feeding space, and a pee pad. If he needs to go in the middle of the night, he reliably uses the pad. This system works well for his current age and schedule, and with continued adjustments to meal and potty times, he will likely grow out of nighttime peeing. Captain Gumball is doing very well with house training. He shows clear signs when he needs to go, such as sniffing around or wandering off, and with consistent walks, usually three to four times a day, he is able to hold it in more reliably. Captain Gumball is smart and has already learned several tricks, including sit, high five, give paw, and turn around. He is currently learning lay down. He is affectionate, playful, and incredibly eager to please, making him a wonderful addition to the right family.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Captain Gumball were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
