Story
This precious little girl is called Sophia and she is the most wonderful all-round Yorkie girl you will ever meet. There is no diva about this 6 to 7-year-old girl that weighs 16 lb. She came to Critter Calvary as a little girl in great distress. Her owner recognized that she was very ill and took her to the vet and they told her she had a very serious uterine infection that would kill her if they did not do an emergency spay. The woman could not afford the bill to fix her girl. She in fact had never had her to the vet much at all. As you can see in these pictures she had not been groomed in several years and we ended up having to cut all the long hair off in order to start over and give her a fresh start to a better coat. Our rescue stepped up to help this sweet girl get the infection out of her body and spayed, so she could live another good 10 years. She has been fully vetted now and recovering on antibiotics and will soon be able to be adopted by October 25thwith a clean bill of good health.  Sofia is fully housebroken and is a little lady with such a gentle presence and demeanor. She knows all about being good in a crate and is a happy girl who smiles all the time.  She is actually around some farm animals such as chickens, horses, goats, cats and of course other dogs and enjoys the friendship of them all. She is everyone's friend and you could not ask for a better, more well- adjusted and happy little Yorkie. If you are interested in making this girl your very own, please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com.  she is currently in Nashville Tennessee and we transport to the Northeast and have six transportation stops to meet families that are adopting our dogs and our cats. PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comOctober 21, 2024, 12:54 pm

Story
My name is Handsome and I have earned my name very nicely, or so my foster mom tells me!  I am a Yorkie mix that is just a tad on the larger side of Regular Yorkies.  I weigh 23 pounds but I am very young and full of energy and zest for.  life at just 1-2 years of age.  I came as a stray that a couple picked up out in the country and they could not keep me.  They already had dogs of their own and they found this nice rescue group to take me in and get me groomed (I was very matted) and then to neuter me and fully vet me from the ground up.  The groomer even mentioned to the lady who brought me in to be groomed, that I was a very sweet boy.  I really do try to show my appreciation to all the people involved with taking care of me, just how much I appreciate what they are doing for me.  Iam very good with all the other foster dogs in my home right now.  My foster mom says a fenced yard is a MUST and I really need daily exercise and maybe another dog to play with.  I love to play with toys, other dogs and I love to bat my hazel colored eyes at your to try and get special treats and favors.  My eyes seem to get a lot of compliments from all the women I meet.  So on the other side of things, I am crate trained, but not housebroken yet.  I haven’t been in training long enough for that.  I walk nicely on a leash which is important and I will learn the housebreaking rules if I am the ONLY dog that needs to be worked with.  I think my foster mom has a lot on her plate to really focus on me for that.  They say I am a “catch” and that I won’t last long on the adoption site.   If you are even slightly interested, you best better write to Critter Cavalry Rescue right now at ccrnewengland@gmail.com and raise your hand to get their attention!   I am in Tennessee right now and I can ride up to the northeastern states on the transport van any weekend.

Story
We have a wide range of sizes, breeds, and personalities who have been waiting for a long time to find homes in which to live out their lives. All have been vet-checked, spayed/neutered and updated on shots. Some are in great health and hopefully will have many years to enjoy with their new owners... others are being treated for some medical issues and need some extra care to keep them happy and comfortable for whatever time they have left. We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions. Can't adopt but still want to help this dog? Click on the "Sponsor Me" button at the top of this page to donate toward his/her care! All donations are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your support!

Story
Meet Reeses, as in Reese’s Pieces 🍬 When we first met her she was terrified and wanted to rip us to pieces, but give her a few days and she will love you to pieces instead! Nothing is more rewarding than earning the trust of these scared little ones whose instinct is to lash out when scared, and watching their entire personality change once they realize they can trust you. This under 2 year old scruffy yorkie/Shih tzu mix has plenty of reason to be so distrustful. Her owner never socialized her with other people and would go on vacations and leave her alone in her apartment for days at a time. One day she got evicted and just left this scared little girl behind. Luckily authorities found her before it was too late and healthwise she’s just fine. Her emotional trauma from being left alone so much and getting proper socialization as a puppy are much harder to overcome. Once she loves you, there is no better snuggler. If she could somehow melt into you or fuse herself to your lap like some kind of siamese twin she would do it in a heartbeat. Velcro dog isn’t a strong enough term, she’s more like a magnet 🧲 who will do whatever it takes to get to her person. No gate can hold her, she climbs out of any expen, leaps or squeezes through extra tall baby gates (we haven’t witnessed all of her magical escapes, just know she’s always somehow popping up places she’s not supposed to be 😆). Luckily she’s (grudgingly) cratable though not quietly and will need some practice being left alone- it takes her some time screaming out her protests but she does eventually settle and go to sleep. Unless you want to come home and find her walking around on top of your kitchen counter or refrigerator like a cat we definitely recommend sticking with the crate training. Reeses is looking for a patient adult home that will love this crazy little monkey 🙉 flying squirrel 🐿️ cat 🐈 hybrid, for better or worse, and have a sense of humor about her antics and adventurous spirit. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Reeses in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
