His adoption fee is $750.00.Say hi to your new furry best friend, McGuyver! He responds best to his nickname, Mikey, and is such a passionate, spunky young man! McGuyver is 2 years old and weighs about 12 pounds. He does not have any known allergies or health concerns at this time. He is one of a kind with a spirited personality and plenty of love to go around! And, how can you not love that underbite! He’s smiling indefinitely! We love that McGuyver… - Builds strong bonds with the person he’s with and proves to be loyal - Is very intelligent and food motivated, making training very attainable. He knows basic commands such as sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it, coming when called, door manners (back up and wait for his name to be called), etc. He has also learned dog social cues and boundaries since being with us. - Loves snuggling as much as we do! He loves to bury himself beneath the blanket and will jump into position on the couch as soon as he sees you sitting down. - Gets along very well with other dogs! He has enjoyed the other four dogs in our home, along with any playmates that come by. He loves to play by wrestling and with toys. - Enjoys being outside, whether it’s a brisk walk or hanging out in the backyard. We’re working on his leash skills, as he can sometimes pull when excited! A bit of background… His original owner was unfortunately incarcerated so McGuyver was moved to home after home due to family and friends not knowing who would care for him during this time. He was eventually surrendered to SAYR and by the time he had reached us, he had seen a lot and had been without a stable, structured home. Upon arrival to his first foster home, McGuyver showed to be protective over the foster mom and reactive towards men, but only if the foster mom was present. He was moved to my home for further training and exhibited these same behaviors. He seems to bond immediately with the women in the household and takes some time to warm up to the men. We have been working on this and feel that he has made enough progress to put himself out there and find his forever home! Due to his reactions towards men, we are looking for someone who is willing to give him the time he needs to adjust. He has adjusted perfectly to the different male friends and family in my life, so he really just needs the time and patience given to him to reach that point in a new family. Once uprooted from what he’s familiar with here, he will likely regress to some of his old ways until he gets to know the new men in his life. But once he does, the bond is irreplaceable! Because of all this, we do feel that a woman-only home would be best for McGuyver so he can adjust to a new home better and welcome the occasional male guest versus living with a male full time. McGuyver needs a home that is active and willing to continue training with him. We feel that the right fit is someone who is understanding of the things he’s been through and willing to take on a challenge with this little guy. If given the chance, he could really blossom into even more of an amazing dog than he already is! He is very energetic and needs a proper outlet but also likes to relax – best of both worlds! He would love to be taken on adventures and explore new places, meet new friends, and just simply take advantage of this second chance he was provided with. I’m happy to talk more in depth about the training he’s gone through so far and what is necessary for him to continue succeeding. If you feel you may be a good fit for this guy, don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss! McGuyver is staying in Elkton, Maryland with Olivia.
