Story
Animal Profile: Meet Ryder! He's an estimated 2-year-old, 55 lb neutered male bully mix. He came to the shelter as a stray and the staff loves him! They describe him as friendly, fun and adorable. He gets along well with other dogs in playgroups. We will share more as we get to know him in foster care. Foster Update: Ryder is a handsome and energetic dog who loves to play. He gets lots of compliments, partly because he’s naturally muscular and looks like he hits the gym every day! He is crate trained, doesn’t mind getting showers and does not chew on furniture, shoes, or socks. He does get excited when you let him out of the crate or guests come over, so we’re working on impulse control and leash manners. He’s a strong guy and will need a strong owner, structure, and continued training. He typically will stop most undesirable behaviors with a firm “NO,” except when he’s pulling on the leash, in which case it takes a bit of patience and re-direction. Ryder loves to be by his people and becomes quite cuddly when you hold him or rub his belly. He’s very food motivated, which is great for training, and he’s always ready to chase, fetch or tug on a rope. He hasn’t quite caught on to dropping the ball after he retrieves it, so we’re working on that. He typically doesn’t bark or go after other dogs, but he is strong and likes to play rough to assert himself -- not usually by biting but running/bumping or crawling under other dogs. We recommend Ryder be the only dog in the home as he doesn’t know his own strength, and we don’t recommend cats either. In a home with a strong owner, structure and continued training, this guy will be an amazingly fun and loving part of a family. Experience with the pit bull breed or larger dogs would be ideal. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current core vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, health certificate, heartworm test, transport from California to Seattle.
