Hi, I'm Zeus! I'm a 5-year-old staffy. I've had some ups and downs, but I'm ready to find my forever home. I really need somebody that's going to give me a structured life, with rules and boundaries. I enjoy structured walks with time to play on the playground, and tug is definitely one of my favorites! I will play fetch for a while ... pretty cool that I just learned to bring the ball back instead of just chewing on it. I don't mind cats, but with other dogs I need a slow intro. Mostly, I just want to share your snacks and cuddle on the sofa with you. Animal Profile: Zeus is an estimated 5-year-old, 60 lb neutered male American Staffordshire Terrier who is looking for a loving forever home to call his own. His former owners shared a rental home with his current caretaker and then just up and left. He has been taken care of (rather than surrendered to a shelter) by this good Samaritan ever since, and we are helping to find him a new home. Zeus is now crate trained and house trained and has obedience training too! He is friendly with all people and has lived with older children without any issues. Zeus was previously leash reactive but now walks politely with training tools; he will need an adopter willing to use a training collar to manage his leash reactivity. Zeus currently lives with other dogs and does fine with that as long as toys are not in the picture; he is prone to resource guarding toys (with other dogs, not people) and so toys would need to be managed in a multi-dog home. Zeus does live with cats and is OK with them -- good boy! He is currently fostered in Vancouver, WA and ready to meet you! Animal Profile: Nutmeg is an estimated 3-year-old, 70 lb neutered male mixed breed listed as a lab mix but likely with some bully too -- who knows? He was rescued from the high kill Bakersfield Animal Shelter where he was assessed to be timid but friendly with people and respectful of other animals; Nutmeg is very affectionate once he has a chance to get to know you. He has a gentle mellow energy. Foster Update: Nutmeg is one sweet boy!  He will need a proper introduction to any potential dog friends, but he enjoys to running and playing with his canine friends at doggy daycare. He lives to play ball and could do it all day. Nutmeg has been working hard on his obedience, and will thrive in a home where his skills will be kept up on. This energetic dude also has an off switch, and would be happy to snuggle up at the end of the day for a snooze. Nutmeg has been in foster care with the trainers at A Dogs Best Friend in Vancouver, WA. He is a board and train grad, and has wonderful manners. Animal Profile: Meet Ryder! He's an estimated 2-year-old, 55 lb neutered male bully mix. He came to the shelter as a stray and was a staff favorite. They described him as friendly, fun and adorable.   Foster Update: Ryder is a handsome and energetic dog who loves to play. He gets lots of compliments, in part because of his muscular physique -- he looks like he hits the gym every day! Ryder loves to be with his people and becomes quite cuddly when you hold him or rub his belly. He’s always ready to chase, tug on a rope or fetch, and with practice will now happily drop the ball so you can throw it again. Ryder doesn't typically bark at other dogs but he is strong and has a rough-and-tumble play style; in true pitty fashion, he loves to bump and go under/over other dogs. Ryder will need a tolerant and sturdy canine companion if he goes to a home with a resident dog. Ryder is crate trained and has good house manners -- he doesn't chew on off-limits items like furniture, shoes or socks. He's come a long way with his impulse control: He used to get very excited coming out of the crate or greeting guests but has shown willingness to respond to a firm "NO." It's helpful that he is quite food and praise motivated; belly rubs are the best! Ryder has shown he can be quite in tune with your mood: When you're excited he's ready to go! When you're calm, he's ready for snuggles. With all his training progress his new nickname is "Little Gentleman." Since I am still just a pup although a fully grown one but a pup none the less, I will need lots of exercise and playtime. Zara 8 yo female slow intro to other dogs, fearful fostered in Everett, WA Hi I’m Zara! I came to the PNW all the way from Southern California. I was a little timid when I first came into rescue, but I have received a lot of love and patience from my foster family that has helped me settle in and feel safe. I am very affectionate and am eager to please. I will do most anything such as going in my crate for a good treat. I don’t enjoy being home alone for long periods so if I can go with you, I love car rides, otherwise a family that is home most of the time would be best for me. I do well with other dogs that are my size, so a home with a buddy might be nice. I don’t enjoy small dogs or other small animals. I was found as a stray and sprung from the shelter by BHNW. Everyone who has come into contact with me gets the giggles at how sweet, affectionate and goofy I am. My one floppy ear gives me great character. My underbite makes me endearing. And my constant wiggles to gain attention and then my sploot (or roll over) as I cannot help myself. SCRATCHES ARE EVERYTHING! I'm really smart and know some basic commands but would do well with a family who can spend some time with obedience training. I want love so much that I become a walking bowling ball very easily. I do seem to have some significant allergy issues. When I came into BHNW, I was a giant scab. Medicated baths have helped a ton but I am constantly itchy and need to figure out why. So far, I seem to be good with non-reactive dogs. But I did get into a scuffle over a highly prized toy that we both wanted. I think I would be good for a family with older children who are dog savvy. I haven't been at all bothered by the squirrels by the door or the birds that land near the window, so if you happen to have a cat that isn't bothered by dogs, I think I'd be ok with that too. If you are looking for a playful, sweet, Velcro dog, I am it! Make sure you get your application in!

She has a very sweet and calm personality and loves people, both adults and children. She does like to be the queen of the castle and does not wish to share her home with any kings, princesses, or with any puss and boots for that matter. Cupcake knows commands like sit and come and does well on a leash but will pull if something perks her interest. She also loves squeaky toys and chasing the local squirrels, as well as just chilling on the couch with her humans. Cupcake has no evident medical issues but will undergo a wellness check and medical evaluation soon and will need to be spayed prior to being considered adoptable. In the meantime, we'll continue to get to know her personality and determine the kind of permanent home that will ensure Cupcakes enjoys a peaceful, happy, and well-loved life.
