Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached.
Hi there! I’m PAXTON. I am 2 years old and love life every single day. Everyone I meet gushes all over me and says things like “Oh my gosh, he is the most handsome dog I’ve ever seen.” or “He is so cute he doesn’t even look like he can be real.” or “Wow he is 10 times more adorable than his photos.” I’m not really sure what all that means, but they seem to like me and give me tons of pets. I love pets. Let me tell you about some of my other favorite things.
Food...I love food and treats. I will do absolutely anything for a treat. Foster mom says that makes me easier to train. She says I am super duper smart. I think learning things is fun. I know sit, down, kennel, give kisses, and fetch. I’m getting better at dropping it after I fetch. I will always drop it for a treat! I also know that my crate is a safe place so I am happy to hang out there when foster mom is away from home. I know outside is the place to potty; I never ever potty in the house.
I love playing with other dog friends, snuggling with them on dog beds, and just having them around me. I hang out with big dogs, small dogs, boy dogs, and girl dogs…I want to be friends with everyone. I’m always up for playtime, but understand other dogs don’t want to play all the time. As long as they tell me they don’t want to play, I say “that’s cool” and entertain myself or lay down and chew a bone. I’m not a mind reader though so other dogs have to tell me they don’t want to play for me to understand. I like to play for maybe 30 minutes at a time, then it’s time for me to catch a nap. I’m a big heavy boy so long endurance isn’t my thing…no marathons are in my future. Leave those to border collies and aussies.
I love car rides. I jump right in foster mom’s SUV and she says I get an A+ for my car riding behavior. I also think going for walks is the most fun thing in the universe. Foster mom has been practicing my walking skills a bunch. She says my impulse control has gotten a million times better (I get excited when I see other pups out on the town) but she still always gets me to focus on her when we see other dog friends out on strolls. She says this is something that I will continue to practice. When it is super hot outside, I get pooped pretty quickly on our walks. A mile or so is PLENTY for me in the heat.
We have many visitors in my foster home. I like every single person I meet. People say I sound scary when I bark at the front door or in my crate. There isn’t anything I can do about it…that’s just my voice and I can’t change it. I don’t want people to be afraid of me. I’m a friendly guy. I’m also told that the noises I make when I play can sound scary if you don’t know me. Again, I don’t want to scare anyone, they are happy fun noises, I just can’t change my voice.
I think all people of all ages are awesome, but foster mom says its best if I don’t live with little kids because I have a large mouth and sometimes accidentally put it on people when we are playing. I totally don’t mean to. I haven’t met any kitty cats in my foster home, but, if you think yours is the perfect forever family for me, please submit your application even if you have feline family members! If your application is approved, the folks at Woof River are happy to introduce me to indoor kitty cats and send you videos. Outdoor kitty cats are probably not a good fit. I would probably be tempted to chase them. Chase is a really fun game you know.
Basically I have endless affection to give, want to make you smile every day, and want to be an endlessly loyal member of your pack for many years to come. Let’s make happy memories together!
PAXTON’s ideal forever home has other resident dogs OR is on where he will be frequently socialized with other dogs and people. His friendly with strangers personality is such an asset, we don’t want him to ever lose it. PAXTON is an incredible dog and his forever family will be beyond blessed to have him. That being said, we don’t think PAXTON is the right fit for your very first dog or your very first large dog. For example, if you have always owned dogs but they have been beagles and cocker spaniels PAXTON isn’t the right guy for you. He deserves a home that is used to large dogs who make large dog noises. It isn’t fair to him if his silly sounds make his family nervous. PAXTON radiates a happy light. We don’t want his light to ever be dimmed. Thanks!

PAXTON is neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations, including both of his flu vaccines..
His $490 adoption fee covers his health certificate and the cost of transport to the midwest.

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport.
Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.
Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.
