Allow us to introduce Champ, a 2-year-old, 71-lb Anatolian Shepherd mix who was found near S. Goliad in Rockwall and never reclaimed. He has been patiently waiting over 292 days (as of 01/17/26) for his forever family and is now a Diamond Dog, which means his adoption fee is just $75. Premium dog, bargain price, unlimited love included. Champ is a total lovebug who thrives on being close to his people. He adores snuggles, enjoys gentle play with kids of all ages, and carries his favorite toys around like prized possessions. He walks beautifully on a leash, loves a good zoomie session followed by a cozy nap, and greets everyone with a wag and his signature goofy grin. He bonds deeply and would do best in a home where someone is around most of the day or works from home, as he is not a dog who is content being left alone for long periods. Especially outdoors. This story truly tugs at our heartstrings . Sweet Rocky was adopted from the Greenville shelter, but his journey has been anything but smooth. His previous owner claimed he was too big and soon after, Rocky was found abandoned in a local dumping ground . Instead of returning him to the shelter, they left him to fend for himself. Tragically, he was attacked by other abandoned dogs. Thankfully, a kind-hearted Samaritan saw him and took him to the shelter. Rocky was in terrible shape, all beaten up and scared. Before a rescue could be arranged, his previous owners adopted him again, unsure if they would keep him. Sadly, they returned him once more because their fence wasn’t secure and they kept him outside. Rocky had only a few hours left before being scheduled for euthanasia when our rescue found a foster for him. She adored him, but due to a family emergency, she can no longer care for him. Rocky is just 1.5 years old and weighs about 90 lbs. He is nearly perfect! He gets along well with children, and other dogs. He is gentle, sweet, and craves affection. His foster mentioned that whenever she coughed, Rocky would come running to check on her. He doesn’t like being alone but doesn’t destroy anything. He’s a true velcro dog, always wanting to be close to his humans. Rocky can’t wait to find his forever home or be loved by a foster until he meets his forever family! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Say hello to our hopeful little Miss Birdee Pruitt. This pretty baby landed on the euthanasia list, together with her two siblings, at the shelter in Bastrop TX. (Her name comes from the Sandra Bullock character in "Hope Floats," which was filmed in and around Bastrop.) Thankfully, when we made a post about these pups, our friends Molly and Chris stepped up to pull them to safety and foster them. Our best guess is that Birdee is most likely Anatolian Shepherd mix, but the set of her ears tells us that there may be a non-LGD breed somewhere in her family tree. She has an estimated birthday of 2/4/2024, and since she and her siblings were surrendered to the shelter by their previous family, we think that should be very close to their actual birthday. Birdee weighed about 30 lbs when she got her rabies vaccination at 4 months old, and weighed 63 lbs at 7 months, so it's reasonable to guess that she could grow up to be 85 lbs or so as a young adult. In her first foster home, Birdee was exposed to chickens and sheep, but only in very limited and supervised situations. Since moving to Windsong Ranch, Birdee has split her time pretty evenly between playing with her siblings and staying in the pasture with our Nigerian Dwarf goats. We really don't think she wants to be a working livestock guardian dog, but we think she would make a great addition to a small homestead where she could be a family pet who is not likely to harm the livestock. Birdee LOVES the water and will splash in a kiddy pool or water tub or creek or pond or any other water you put in front of her. Birdee is vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped, so she is ready to find her forever home. If you would like to consider making her part of your family, please complete the online application. PLEASE NOTE: Birdee was on a tie-out ONLY FOR THE PURPOSES OF THESE PHOTOS. It can be really tough to get photos of a puppy who wants to run and play and explore everything. The tie-out limits her movements and makes it easier to use both hands on the phone/camera.
