Story
Joey is currently in a foster home. He is NOT at the shelter.  Joey is such a fun guy. Joey is a male cattle dog mix that weighs 45 pounds. He is approximately 2 years old. He originally came to us as a transfer from a neighboring shelter. This guy is fun, fun, fun. He is a high energy dog that will thrive with daily walks, hikes, or fun adventures. He will need a strong handler because he can pull on walks. He can also jump high so a high fenced in yard is recommended. Joey has giant radar ears that make him look so cute and lovable. Joey is dog and cat friendly. As always, a meet and greet with any resident canine is required. Cattle dogs love having jobs to do. Dogs that love to play all day long are Joey’s jam. Older kids are fine for Joey. Please do your research on the breed before adopting. Joey is neutered, HW tested, microchipped, and has had all his vaccines. Please email dogadoptions@parmashelter.org to meet Joey and/or complete an adoption application online. Joey’s adoption fee is $160.            Like Parma Animal Shelter on FACEBOOK and help pass the word about our adoptable guests!  Don't forget to share pictures with your friends!  Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/ParmaAnimalShel   Submit an application to adopt on our website parmashelter.org           April 23, 2024, 10:07 pm

Story
Kenzie is a smart, spunky, fun little pup, but it will probably take him a while to come out of his shell. Kenzie came from a hoarding case in Spring 2023. He lived in a home with many other dogs but had very little experience interacting with people. He spent some times with the ASPCA to work on his socialization. He's come a long way and is looking for a kind, patient owner to help him learn that people don't have to be scary! Snacks and big fluffy toys can help you win his heart. While he's learning to trust humans, Kenzie would love opportunities to spend time with dog friends! He loves wrestling and lounging with other dogs. We think he would be more comfortable and confident with a dog sibling in his home.

TEDDY 3YRS 30LBS MALE AUS CATTLE DOG LISA 1YR 20 LBS FEMALE MIX MUST HAVE ACD/HERDING BREED EXPERIENCE BONDED PAIR-Ever wanted a dog for you and a dog for your sig other but were afraid of clashing personalities? Well, not here because these two love each other, a LOT, so at least you know they get along perfectly and there is one for each of you. 2x the love!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And man, are they CUTE!) They travel often in the car with me for over an hour at a time - they do ride crated. Load up easy and ride quietly- unless we go through a drive through then Lisa has opinions about what she wants too. She likes to play ball, but not as intense as Teddy and will just let him get it and go find something else to do. They play and wrestle with each other and other dogs. Not overly rough but will get on ground with each other. They love to run laps in the yard chasing each other. They leave my uninterested dogs alone, as there is always someone else to play with. Lisa did not get along with my 1 male foster - just a little 10 pounder . Not sure who to started the war, but I did not leave them loose with each other * no actual fight/injury/contact ever occured. There was alot of noise 1 time, and they would grumble at each other when passing by each other's crates/run at work. Teddy is pretty easy going but doesn't like to be corrected. He will get bossy -verbal and pin someone who tries to But a sharp HEY from me and he will stop and walk away * never has been a fight or injury. Loves to play fetch and the other dogs do not challenge him to get the ball away from him. He would definitely destroy a stuffed toy if given the chance. They both love to chew on antlers/ nylabones/Benebone etc Teddy is a super cuddler and happy to hang on the couch or bed. Lisa loves attention too but takes a bit more to settle down at first. Both settle quickly and Quietly in a crate. They are both jumpers and when seeking attention. They have gotten better, but would need to be reminded of their manners going forward. We do not require a fenced BUT they would need a secure area to be able to run in and burn off energy weekly. Crate trained and housebroken   This animal is up to date on all shots, dewormed, and spayed/neutered. They have been heartworm tested (negative) and on prevention.  The adoption fee is $400.00 for the pair. Story
This litter of puppies were left in a crate outside of a county pound. They are about 4.5 months old and weigh 19 pounds. They look like cattle dog mixes but we have no information about their parents. Will need herding dog experience to adopt.- please note your experience with the breed on application at the end. MURK - M They are puppies who haven't been living in a home, so will need guidance from their new families. New homes must be willing to put in the time for crate training, housebreaking, socialization, and manners training. They are highly food motivated which will make training easier and fun! They love people, attention, playing, and other dogs. Murk is the most outgoing and will run right up to say hello. He is doing great with working on commands; sit, down, go to bed, off, and waiting at doors. He loves treats and working to learning them. He hasn't been around cats much, but could probably live with them if he also had another dog in the house to play with. Have not seen around kids _ over 8 yrs is recommended. Located in Mentor, OH This animal is current on all age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. They have also been given flea prevention. Adoption fee is $350.00. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an application. http://www.ajssearchandrescue.org/adoption-applicationApril 23, 2024, 5:36 pm

Courtesy Post: Owner Surrender/Rehoming- Ashland, OH Meet Atlas! He is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd and weighs between 35-40 lbs. He is neutered and up to date on shots, but isn’t on heartworm prevention. Atlas is nervous around strangers. He is great with kids and dogs! He hasn’t been tested around cats. Atlas bit the owner’s mother and sister when they tried to grab the owner’s kids. The owner is surrendering him because he isn’t receiving the attention and training that he needs. He needs to find a new furever home as soon as possible! If you think you can provide a great home for Atlas, please contact the owner listed below. There is a $150 rehoming fee to assure good folks with good intentions. This fee will be donated to Australian Shepherds Furever for their assistance in placing Atlas. Story
In Bidwell, Ohio - Bailey Mae will steal your heart! Bailey is a petite, 40ish lb Aussie cattle dog mix and is about 15 months old. Bailey came from a local shelter where we were told she was picked up as a stray by a kind elderly couple. Bailey is fun, sweet, cuddly, and so athletic! She has quickly become best friends with her fur brother Australian shepherd Cattle dog mix. She has been known to herd him a little around the house, but never aggressively and it hasn’t been a problem. She has become fast friends with any medium or large-sized dogs she has met that have visited her foster home. Bailey Mae loves her 2 and 4 year old human siblings and has been WONDERFUL with them (even when the 2 year old is a little too rough with her). She shows no signs of aggression, nipping, or herding. She has also been around many visiting cousins ages 6-10 and been equally gentle with them. She loves all people she meets regardless of gender or size and is very friendly to all. Bailey Mae is crate trained and sleeps happily through the night in her crate without a peep, patiently waiting to be let out in the morning. She doesn’t love being left in the crate when her humans need to leave during the day, but she will go in with a treat. She is almost completely housebroken. She has gotten to the point where if she gets outside regularly in a good routine, she is pretty unlikely to have an accident. She needs a little more time, patience, and consistency to be 100% on this. She is not food aggressive at all, but is definitely food obsessed. If food is left unattended on the counter or table, she will find it! Can you blame her after being a hungry stray? She is an incredible jumper and is SO fast. She adores a game of fetch with a tennis ball and will wow you with her abilities to catch the ball. She is equally happy after a fun game of fetch to curl up on the couch and rest with you. Bailey shows a very high prey drive with small animals. Her current yard is too large to be fenced (farm setting) and she is showing instincts to chase after a neighboring outdoor cat and small dog. She has never injured them, but her foster family feels that she might if given the opportunity. For the safety of Bailey and the small animals, her ideal home would have no cats or small-sized dogs and a secure (preferably privacy) fence. She has also done well with cattle, showing no interest in chasing adults or calves and making no attempts to cross under the electric fence. (An unfenced yard in a rural setting with no small pets or livestock would be considered.) Bailey needs room to run and play safely. She would enjoy a friendly, similarly sized dog to play with or she could be the only dog and get all of the playtime with her humans. Bailey will warm your heart, cuddle you, love your children, and make an excellent family pet if given the chance! Bailey Mae is spayed, UTD on her vaccines, microchipped and on HW and flea prevention. All adoption fees go to help other pups like Bailey Mae. There will be a $20 fee to transfer her microchip. Bailey Mae is being fostered in Bidwell, OH. If Bailey Mae sounds perfect for your family, please fill out the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.
