Story
In Oswego: PLEASE meet Penelope a 2-3 year old Aussie or Aussie cross - we’re not sure. We ARE sure, though, that she is gorgeous! One brown and one blue eye, and just look at that coat! Penelope was rescued from an abusive/neglect situation. As a result, she is timid and lacks confidence. Even so, she loves walks and does well on the leash with no pulling. She sits to be leashed up. She’s met her Foster’s neighbors, including one adult and two elementary school-aged kids. Penelope independently stretched out to sniff their hands and allowed the child to pet her on the chest. We feel she would be ok with calm, dog-savvy children that age and up, but is probably ideally suited to older children and adults. She has made small trusting gains. Penelope LOVES chasing and playing with dogs, always initiating play time. She is brave with other dogs, rough-housing even with dogs much bigger than she is. She would love to have a doggy sibling to play with her and help build her confidence. She loves to bask in the sun in her Foster’s fence yard. Penelope needs a patient family who will help her build her trust and confidence. She is a sweet and loving girl who will continue to blossom into great companion with guidance and a loving home. If Penelope sounds perfect for your family, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family.

Story
In Oswego: Hi. I'm Cooper. My foster mom sometimes calls me "Coop-De-Ville.” I don't get it but I think it's cute. Anyhow, I am a big "WILD AND CRAZY BOY". I'm a 2-3 yrs old, neutered Aussie mix w/ something else fluffy (Malamute? Chow? Teddy Bear?) tossed in. I am UTD on vaccinations and weigh in at 60-65 ish pounds. I LOVE to play and rough house with humans and other dogs. Foster Mom says I'm a bit of a “bull in a china shop.” I really don't mean to be naughty, because really, I'm sweet, so lovable and crave pets and hugs. I have had 2 different families. The first one neglected me and I was really thin. Along came this sweet wonderful woman and took me in. LOL did I gain weight! Sadly after 7 months mom #2 developed a terminal illness and had to go into a hospital! I started living with a family member who had lots of kids and couldn't give me the attention and training I needed, and she had to tie me outside. That made me sad, and mom #2 was really sad too. She really wanted me to have a family, and asked the people at the hospital to help her find a rescue for me. She really loved me and tried really hard to do what was best for me. So now I'm with ASF and my foster mom (FM) waiting for my furever home. FM has a cat. I have to admit I really love to chase him but just because it’s fun - I don’t want to hurt him. I stop chasing him when FM says so. From Foster Mom: Cooper, currently in upstate NY, is not well-suited to being a first-time dog. Although good natured, he needs obedience training and socializing. He is a strong boy and pulls very hard on the leash, so his new family will need to work with appropriate training and tools (ex. no-pull harness) to teach him proper behavior on leash. He LOVES to ride in the car. He hasn't had the stability of a good home and due to his “exuberant” behavior, he’s probably not suited to a home with very young children or family members using mobility equipment or having balance or mobility challenges that make being knocked over a risk. Cooper would make a SUPER companion for a family that hikes, runs, camps and does a lot of outdoor activities. He loves his Foster’s fenced in yard but is happiest outside with his people He can - and will - clear or barrel through weak/low fencing if doing so will get him access to his people. He has a great deal of potential under all that fur and energy. He just needs a family willing to teach him reasonable expectations. Cooper will need time, as all dogs do, to transition and decompress in his new home. If you’d like to meet Cooper, or think you may be a good fit, please reach out to learn more about this big beautiful boy. Here is the link to the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.
