Story
Meet Benji, an 8-year-old Australian Shepherd (born 11/14/2016) who is as affectionate as he is smart. Loyal to his people, Benji thrives on attention and companionship and is looking for a forever home where he can be the center of someone’s world. True to his breed, he has plenty of energy and does best with daily walks, playtime, and brain-stimulating activities to keep him happy and balanced. Benji is house trained, knows basic commands like sit, lie down, and come, and walks decently on a leash, though he can pull a little when excited. He isn’t crate trained but does well relaxing on his own. While he enjoys toys from time to time, his favorite things are treats, being outdoors, cuddling, and soaking up love from his people. Young children can make Benji a bit anxious with their sudden movements, he would thrive in an adult-only home or with older kids who understand how to respect a dog’s boundaries. He also needs to be the only pet, as he doesn’t get along with other dogs or cats. With the right home, Benji will be a deeply loyal and affectionate companion who is always ready to snuggle, keep you company, and bring joy to your days.Benji is a wonderful, affectionate dog who just needs the right match to feel safe, happy, and adored. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who will stick by your side, Benji is your guy. Benji is a courtesy post, if interested in adopting him please send us an email and we will put you in contact with his owners.

Story
Bella is a 3yo unspayed purebred Australian Shepherd. She is unfixed. Bella is very sweet; she's very affectionate and will likely attach to you quickly. In true velcro dog fashion, she will lay at your feet while you're studying or watching television. She is also not a barker; many times we will be home and I will be on the phone and my friends/family marvel at how they cannot tell that she is right there with me, lol. If someone is at the door, she will not bark, but just go over to the door and stand there, waiting to see who it is. She also has a lot of every and makes a great run companion; she enjoys long walks as it helps her to burn off her excess energy. She is house-trained as well as potty-trained. She does not have any health issues and is well-socialized with other dogs. She enjoys going to the dog park and alternating between running and chasing, lol. We live in the NYC-area so if you are interested in scheduling a meet-and-greet to see if this would be a good fit, lmk.

Story
Drama - 14 weeks & 19lbs (as of 10/31), Aussie Mix, Spayed Estimated full grown size around 60lbs  This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Parents Say: "Drama doesn’t live up to her name in the best way. She’s brilliant, incredibly well behaved, pretty chill throughout the day, and loves to go for walks and play respectfully with our dog. She’s wonderful on a leash - it’s actually really impressive. She has been going to the bathroom outside and on pee pads inside. She has also let us know when she needs to get off of our couch or bed for a potty break. Drama is cuddly and affectionate, pretty independent and doesn’t mind resting by herself or hanging out with a toy or bully stick. She’s food motivated and a great listener - Drama will be an absolute joy to train. She responds to corrections and redirection extremely well. Whoever adopts Drama will be so lucky to have her. She has the best temperament and tons of potential - she is truly a rare find." Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy levelMEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  TOLERANCE TO CITYCity pup – Seems unfazed by the sights and sounds, may as well have been born here.POTTY TRAININGSort of -- On the way and learning! May be using wee pads (is a puppy or a brand new rescue) COMFORT LEVEL WITH STRANGERSSocial butterfly – Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. BEHAVIOR WITH CHILDREN (always requires adult supervision)Yes for most ages – very confident, gentle, low energy, tolerant, not mouthy SOCIAL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER DOGSYes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other caninesRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR WITH OTHER ANIMALS (cats, small pets, etc.)Not sure – Wants to chase squirrels and birds so may not be a good match for a home with cats, rabbits, etc. MOUTHY BEHAVIORPast this stage– Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in their mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtimeSEPARATION ANXIETY (Please leave your foster dog home alone every day for at least 20 minutes.) Past this stage – Completely fine being left home alone. Doesn’t cry or exhibit destructive behavior when you leave the apartment or house. LEASH MANNERSGetting the hang of it – Probably hasn’t been on a leash much in their life but figuring it out. Might be a mild puller but responds to correction. CUDDLE BUG LEVELMedium – Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HELLONeeds training – Very excited to greet everyone and has no idea how to do so politely. Jumps up on most strangers or other dogs that go by. In puppy phase or wasn’t trained as a young adult. CRATE TRAININGWorking on it – We set one up and leave the door open but rarely close it because the dog freaks out *We haven’t used the crate much but are working on it. She’s a calm girl overall and not super needy, so I’m confident she will do fine. MEDICAL STATUS:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age), spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon HOW DID THIS DOG END UP WITH US?Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. Odie - 1 year, 33lbs, Aussie Mix, Neutered  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Parent Says: "In less than 12 hours Odie has quickly decided that he’s a city guy. He is a showstopper on the streets rocking his silky coat and middle part. He is pretty unphased by city life and loves to go for a long walk or accompany you on your errands. He enjoys saying hello to other dogs on the street and will try to jump up and say hi to strangers at times. He is quickly getting the hang of leash walking and does all his business outside- in a day or two he’ll be a pro at the leash. He is extremely affectionate and will climb into your lap gently for cuddles and lick your whole face clean. He loves to be pet, but prefers to find a cozy spot on the carpet or dog bed to nap. At home he will play with his toys on his own or occupy himself with a chew, while keeping a close eye on you. It honestly doesn’t get more perfect than this southern gentleman." The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. Story
Meet Malachai! 5-Year-Old • Male • Mini Australian Shepherd • 28 lbs Calling all Aussie lovers! Malachai is a total heartthrob with movie-star looks and a personality to match. This confident, playful, and outgoing guy is full of life—and fluff! A high-energy supermodel with serious herding instincts and a passion for fetch, Malachai would thrive with an active person or family who can keep up with his zest for life. He’s the ultimate workout buddy—whether it’s running, hiking, or agility training, Malachai is ready to be your energetic sidekick. He’s whip-smart, eager to please, and learns quickly with consistent guidance and structure. That said, Malachai is a classic Aussie: he needs a job and plenty of structured, daily exercise to be his best self. Without it, he’ll let you know—he can get vocal and excited on walks, especially when the leash comes out, so he’s still working on polite leash manners. Malachai currently lives with three other high-energy dogs, but he prefers to be the center of attention. He would do best as the “one and only,” though he might do well with a single, energetic female dog who matches his drive and doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight. No cats, please. He’s good with kids, but due to his herding tendencies, a home with older children (12+) or adults only would be ideal. Malachai is looking for a home in the suburbs or countryside with a securely fenced yard and, most importantly, someone who understands the Australian Shepherd mindset: intelligent, driven, and full of heart. With the right person by his side, Malachai is ready to shine. If you're an active, breed-savvy person who’s ready for an adventure partner and cuddle bug all in one, Malachai just might be your perfect match. Meet Ghost!  -  3-Year-Old Male Blue Merle Mini Australian Shepherd • 13-15 lbs Sweet, soulful, and a little sensitive—that’s Ghost . This gorgeous lil’ boy can be skittish and nervous when meeting new people or dogs , and sometimes a little snarky because the “unknown” feels scary & spooky. But give him a little time and patience—especially off leash—and he quickly warms up and shows his true affectionate, playful side. Ghost would really benefit from a home with another confident, friendly dog of similar size to help boost his confidence. Once he feels secure, his silly, happy personality shines through—and you’ll see just how much fun he is. He’s also an expert fetcher and would thrive with someone who understands his breed and can provide the daily activity, structure, and enrichment he needs. &#226&#156&#168 About Ghost: 13-15 lbs of Aussie smarts & sweetness Shy/skittish at first, but warms up with time Needs a small, confident dog buddy for support Kid & cat friendly once comfortable Loves fetch, playtime, and outdoor adventures Apartment or house sized, as long as exercise needs are met Ghost may start out shy, but with the right family, he’ll blossom into your loyal shadow, snuggle buddy, and adventure partner.
