Story
Name: Bert Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix Weight: 44 pounds Age: Adult - maybe a very spry senior – he’s not giving away that secret! Rescue: Albert’s Dog Lounge Current Location: Madison, WI Housetrained: yes Crate trained: yes – I love my crate - I sleep and eat there! Bert, or Bertski, or Bertrand, had a not so great past marked by neglect, inadequate food, and minimal human/dog interaction. He’s done with that part of his life and is ready to move on to his best life where he can shower his humans with love, go on outdoor adventures, and sleep on soft warm beds! Things Bert needs/likes: A human/s with experience with working breed dogs. This is a must. Bert is experiencing a lot of new things all at once. He needs structure and guidance from someone who understands the intelligence and drive of these dogs. Bert is curious, smart, and loving. The effort spent training will be paid back in years of unconditional love.. A fenced yard. Bert’s an active boy and needs some safe space to stretch those legs. Snuggling. In addition to being an outdoor enthusiast Bert is a master snuggler. Other dogs after slow introductions. Adult humans with active lifestyles. Going on hikes and long walks. Private dog parks so he can kick out his jams without worrying about those dogs he doesn’t know. Things Bert dislikes/needs to avoid: Picking up: Bert cannot be picked up. He turns into a possessed demon if you levitate him off the ground. This is manageable with a basket muzzle. Bert’s fosters are working on counter training so this might be a thing of the past soon! Kids any age are a no-go. It’s not that Bert doesn’t like them, he likes everybody. But his personality can be too much for the kiddos. Public dog parks – these are way too stimulating. Cats are too exciting for Bert. He doesn’t leave them alone and has paid the price for this pestering. Behavioral considerations: Leash walking: Bert must be walked with a harness. He had an embedded collar when he arrived in rescue. We don’t want to put pressure on his throat/neck. He also pulls on his walks initially, calming down after the initial excitement. Car rides: Bert happily jumps in the car. He can’t wait to see where he might be going! Because of that excitement, he paces if left in the back unrestrained. He prefers to ride in style calming in a crate. “Strange things” on the street: Bert doesn’t seem to know about city noises and activity. He may bark at people on the sidewalk and strange dogs, but he stops when you remind him that his humans will keep him and the house safe. Taking treats: food is so, so good. Bert gets excited by even the most boring treats (I’ve tried Charlie Bears – trust me, they are not great). He tries to put treats in his mouth as fast as possible in case they disappear. He is learning how to take treats gently and like everything else he is learning, he’s getting better every day. Impulse control: Bert can get overstimulated quickly. This is most likely from spending much of his life living outside without much human/canine interaction – okay, he had a dog buddy on the property he was taken from, but that is the only dog he ever interacted with before being rescued (he’s a little awkward). If you have experience with working breed dogs, love to train and build a bond with your best friend, love to hike and snuggle in equal measures, this fun loving, loveable, funny boy might just be the one for you! Neutered Microchipped Housebroken Crate trained UTD on vaccinations UTD on preventatives Good in a car Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog. Adoption fee is $300, ($550 for a pair). Of Agriculture License Number: 474085-DS NOTE ABOUT AGING A DOG: Aging a dog, based on looking at them, is unreliable and usually inaccurate. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality and their needs. Puppy - Under 6 months Young Adult - 6 months to 2 years Adult - 2 years to 8 years Senior - 8 years to 12 years Golden Oldie - 12+ years

Story
She loves her crate and takes all meals in the crate, sleeps in it at night, and will often go into it to rest during the day even if she has other options. Likes being in the yard and finding leaves and sticks, but is also happy to be inside. Likes to chew but has not chewed on anything she shouldn't. She will occasionally engage with other toys, although she needs the tougher ones. She walks pretty well on a leash and has done well on walks, hikes, and begrudgingly will go for a short run.  We believe that she would be fine in a home with other dogs as long as she is allowed to be the alpha. Rizzo gets along great with all dogs and Rizzo and Daffy really like each other and play/wrestle constantly. However, she loves people so much that she would be fine as an only dog. (She has never shied away from anyone visiting our house.) On the few occasions we have taken her to the dog park and used the small/separate dog run, she hasn't cared about the other dogs and is more interested in looking for sticks. We believe her ideal home would have a good sized fenced in yard, and someone around more days than not. ##2487343##

Story
My friend got Frankie when she was a puppy in January 2020. I adopted her from him after he told me she attacked his kids (I found out later that his kids were antagonizing Frankie while she was in her kennel). I have been working with her but she does not like children or strangers. When Frankie was with my friend she had gotten loose and when animal control was trying to save her from a river Frankie had bitten him. She will warn before she nips (ears back and growl). She is potty trained, however, She will pee when she is scared (if she is in the same room as the washer/dryer). She would be best with a big yard where she can run around or perhaps even a "job" she can do. She is great with "her people". It takes a little bit for her to get comfortable but once she is, she is happy and full of energy. She loves to play fetch and she loves the snow. She is not food aggressive at all and when. Giving treats will gently take them too. If you have questions feel free to ask.

Story
About Me: Name: Magical Sapphire Breed (or best guess): Mixed - possibly German Shepherd Mix Approximate Age: 1 yr Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 32 lb Adoption Fee: $495 each Requirements: Loving Family with patience Why In Rescue: Texas Transfer Profile:     Magical Sapphire came to us from our Texas rescue partner where she was waiting for a rescue for months.  She is bigger than the usual dogs we rescue but she deserved a chance at life and her time was up in Texas.  She spent most of her time living in an outside kennel, so living inside is new to her.  She does alert bark to people she doesn't know, and needs a bit of time to become comfortable with new people, but she is a great dog who just needs a chance!  Don't delay in filling out the pre-adoption application so you can meet one of these cute dogs! If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to.  We do put the needs of each particular dog first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a specific dog isn't suitable for your home or living situation. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $100 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS November 25, 2025, 2:16 pm
