All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $650 Meet Boondoggle! If you believe the quiet dogs often have the biggest hearts, then Boondoggle is ready to prove you right. This adorable 1-2 year old, 16-pound mix (our best guess is Beagle/Chihuahua, but your guess is as good as ours!) has the softest coat you'll ever pet— and an equally soft, gentle soul. Rescued from a shelter, Boondoggle is the kind of dog who doesn't rush into new situations. Instead, he quietly observes, takes his time, and once he decides you're one of his people, you'll discover an incredibly loyal companion who simply wants to be by your side. A Day in the Life Boondoggle starts his day bright and early around 6:00 a.m. alongside his foster mom. They head outside for a quick potty break before breakfast, and while he's still building confidence outdoors, he's happiest returning home where he feels safe and secure. He's not much of a foodie and prefers to graze throughout the day, slowly working his way through about a cup of kibble rather than eating it all at once. Most of his day is spent doing what he does best— lounging peacefully near his favorite person. Whether his foster is working, relaxing, or moving from room to room, Boondoggle is content simply keeping her company. At bedtime, he sleeps on a cozy spot on the bedroom floor, occasionally hopping onto the bed for a quick cuddle before returning to his own sleeping place. A Gentle Soul When Boondoggle first arrived in foster care, the world felt like a scary place. Everything made him nervous. He wasn't interested in food, treats, toys, or exploring. His foster patiently took him everywhere with her, showing him that life could be safe again. Within about a week, Boondoggle's true personality began to shine. He discovered the joy of toys, started asking for snacks, and became a devoted little shadow who follows his favorite person from room to room. Today he's a sweet, affectionate cuddle bug who loves relaxing close by and soaking up quiet companionship. He's happiest with gentle affection rather than constant excitement. Think of him as more cat-like than dog-like -- calm, observant, independent, and perfectly content spending hours lounging beside you. Quiet, Polite, and Easy to Live With Boondoggle is one of the easiest houseguests his foster has ever had. He's fully housetrained and has never had an accident inside the home. When left alone, he quietly has free roam of the house and simply waits patiently near the front door until his family returns. He doesn't chew furniture, dig, bark, or get into mischief around the house. Well...except for one hilarious exception. Boondoggle has an undeniable love affair with paper. If there's a piece of paper within reach, he'll happily claim it as his newest treasure. He's been known to grab papers during walks, sneak pages from the printer, and even peel a poster off the wall just so he could chew it. Keeping important papers tucked away may become part of your routine— and you'll probably laugh every time you catch him trying to 'recycle' something. Around Other Dogs Boondoggle is wonderfully polite around other dogs. He's curious and interested but never pushy or reactive. When he meets another dog, he's more likely to observe than bark or pull toward them. He's simply a gentle boy who prefers taking things at his own pace. Walking With Boondoggle One area where Boondoggle is still growing is his confidence outside. The outdoors can still feel overwhelming, and when something worries him, his instinct is to stop and freeze. He responds beautifully to calm encouragement, a loose leash, and allowing him to process the world in his own time. The good news? He's already making progress. He doesn't pull on leash, isn't interested in chasing squirrels, and is wonderfully quiet on walks. Birds, however, definitely catch his attention! His forever family should simply be prepared to celebrate the small victories as his confidence continues to grow. His Perfect Home Boondoggle is looking for a patient, understanding family who appreciates gentle souls and knows that trust is something special to earn. He isn't searching for marathon hikes or busy adventures. Instead, he'd love a calm home where he can continue building confidence, enjoy leisurely potty walks, curl up beside his favorite people, and spend his days simply being part of the family. One of the wonderful things about Boondoggle is how comfortable he is spending time alone while his family is at work. After a full day of waiting patiently, though, he'll be more than ready to soak up all the love and attention you've been saving for him. Why You'll Love Boondoggle Boondoggle may not be the first dog to run into your arms—but once he trusts you, you'll have a loyal little best friend who quietly fills your home with love. He's calm, incredibly well-mannered, smart, affectionate, and wonderfully low-maintenance. His foster has cared for many dogs, but Boondoggle was so easy to live with that she happily extended his stay because he fit into the household so naturally. If you're willing to give this sweet boy a little patience in the beginning, he'll reward you with years of quiet companionship, endless cuddles, and maybe just a few missing sheets of paper along the way.
