Needs special attention,
Story
Ash is 1 1/2 year-old Belgian Malinois mix who is learning her manners and what is expected of her while in her foster home. She sits nicely whenever the possibility of a treat comes around and also sits and waits for her meals to be served. She has even taught herself to go to the door when she has to go out. Don’t worry, if you’re not around to see it, she’ll give you a verbal warning. Ash is housebroken and kennel trained, although she prefers a treat or two when entering her kennel. Ash is super sweet and affectionate. She is quick to bond with her human and is a master cuddler and leaner. She is very curious and will want to follow you everywhere you go and watch everything you do. She is a bit of a nervous nelly when it comes to meeting new people and, in true Malinois fashion, she tends to be vocal about her fear. She needs a human who will be understanding and patient with her when it comes to introducing visitors and new friends. Dog introductions should be conducted slowly as well. Ash takes a few days to warm up to her new environment but once she does, her personality shines through. She can run all day in the yard with her furry foster siblings or crash just about anywhere when it’s time to wind down. She loves any and all kinds of toys and will throw them around all by herself. She is an awesome puppy that would bring heaps of love and energy to anyone willing to adopt her. After being rescued from a Texas shelter, NorthStar discovered that Ash has a severe congenital deformity that will lead to congestive heart failure. She will need to be monitored closely for any symptoms (exercise intolerance, coughing, shortness of breath). She is currently on medication for her condition and seeking the care of a cardiologist is recommended. Unfortunately, Ash's longevity will be affected and the doctors feel that she will most likely not reach the age of 5 years. When NorthStar rescued Ash, we never expected that she would have such a short life but we are determined to make what time she has left the best we can. Ash is looking for a very special adopter who will love this sweet girl and give her the care she needs for the rest of her life. If Ash's story has touched your heart and you would like to give this girl a loving home, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org & be sure to ask for ASH TX. May 30, 2023, 7:44 pm

Story
Meet Margo- This beautiful Belgian Malinois was abandoned with her sister in Puerto Rico. Margo is extremely intelligent and loves to learn. She is looking for an owner with breed experience who understands that these dogs form an unbreakable bond with their human partner and need to have a job by their humans side. If you have ever seen a Mal perform an obedience routine, you know firsthand what a smart and eager breed this is. Problems set in, though, when this people-oriented dog is underemployed and neglected. Exercise, and plenty of it, preferably side by side with their adored owner, is key to Mal happiness. Margo is scheduled to fly to NY/NJ on June 10th and would love to meet her family at the airport. She is estimated to be 1-2 years old and weighs 41lbs. She is fully vetted, vaccinated and spayed. Rom is a true survivor. Rescued from the notorious dog meat farm, where male dogs were slaughtered only after 9 months. Rom is one of the lucky ones as he was only about 7 months when he was rescued and now estimated to be about 3 years old. Even though the sad past, Rom is full of sunshine and happiness. He loves to run with people and other dogs. Not hesitant to explore new environments and always up for challenges. His energy level is very high and would be good fit for outdoor-loving families. Hope that Rom forgets the past and only has happy days!! Please make a happy future with him🙏

Story
When you first saw Jurassic Park, did you say, “damn, I’d like to have one of those baby velociraptors”? Do you watch action movies and say, “yeah I’d like to train like a Navy Seal”? Do you have skin as tough as leather and a desire to wake up with a ball dropped at your chest and eyes saying, “get up I don’t care if it’s 5am, I need to run.” Then we can get just the dog for you. Meet Ricky, a young, energetic, playful and did we say energetic Belgian Malinois puppy. How did this boy end up in a shelter? Because someone who didn’t know what it means to be committed to an awesome working dog breed like a Belgian Malinois. There is a reason the Marines love using them. So if all that hasn’t scared you off, and you can’t wait for a challenge and completeness that Ricky can bring to your life, then reach out to us. Sedona Shepherd is working with Wayne Animal Shelter to get Ricky into the home he deserves. We estimate Ricky to be about 4 months old. Based on his current size, he will be a large Belgian Malinois. He is friendly, smart, agile, and all that comes with a Belgian puppy. Requirements for adopting Ricky include a fenced in yard, big dog experience, preferably at least GSD or Dutch Shepherd experience, preferably experience with Belgian Malinois. You must commit to in-home dog training. If you are interested in finding out more about Ricky, please email us at contact@sedonashepherd.com. Based on his activity level, we are also looking for a home with older children. If you are interested, please fill out an adoption application. Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary's mission is to rescue adult and senior German Shepherd and Shepherd mixes and find them loving homes.  All of our dogs are fully vetted and up to date on all their shots Our adoption area includes New Jersey, Delaware Valley, Manhattan, Southern New York and Eastern Pennsylvania.  We may adopt to Connecticut depending on circumstances.  Please visit our website at www.sedonashepherd.com. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. GENE was transferred to GaDaH from a shelter in Texas.  GENE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick tested negative. She is on monthly prevention, microchipped, has an estimated date of birth of 23 May 2022. We have no way of knowing what the actual breed is, so it is up to people to look at the pictures and video's to make up their own mind. We take a lot of pictures and videos and don't always have the time to post them on the dogs individual webpage and adoption site, so we ask that you go to the rescue  YouTube channel  and  photo albums on our Facebook page  to see a LOT of pictures and videos. GENE-Girl an energetic and intelligent Belgian Malinois mix with a zest for life. Despite being a mix breed, Gene-Girl possesses many of the distinctive qualities and needs associated with the Belgian Malinois breed. If you're an active individual or family seeking a devoted companion who thrives on structured exercise, mental stimulation, and training, Gene-Girl might be the perfect match for you. &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl is a spirited and curious dog who approaches every day with enthusiasm. She is highly intelligent and loves to engage in mentally stimulating activities. This clever girl is quick to learn and eager to please, making her an excellent candidate for further training and obedience work. &#226&#128&#139She forms deep bonds with her humans and is known for her loyalty and affectionate nature. As a Belgian Malinois mix, &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl requires an outlet for her abundant energy. She flourishes with plenty of exercise and mental challenges to keep her mind sharp and her body active. Daily walks, jogs, or hikes in nature are essential to meet her exercise requirements. Engaging in activities like agility, obedience training, and interactive play sessions will help channel her energy and ensure she remains a happy and well-balanced companion. &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl is a highly trainable dog, and her intelligence and eagerness to please make her a joy to work with. She already shows promise in basic commands and leash manners, but continued training will help her reach her full potential. With positive reinforcement techniques and consistency, &#226&#128&#139she&#226&#128&#139 will excel in obedience training, providing a rewarding and fulfilling experience for both of you. &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl &#226&#128&#139Bella thrives in an environment where her mental and physical needs are met. She is best suited for an active individual or family who can dedicate time to her exercise regimen and provide mental stimulation through training and interactive play. A securely fenced yard would be beneficial for her to burn off energy safely. While&#226&#128&#139 her mix breed heritage adds uniqueness to her appearance, it's important to understand and cater to her Belgian Malinois instincts and requirements. &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl is great with other dogs, and has lived amongst all ages and sizes since being at the rescue. She does want to chase cats, but more in a curious manner. If you are prepared to embark on a rewarding journey with a remarkable companion, consider opening your heart and home to &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl&#226&#128&#139. With the right environment, love, and care, &#226&#128&#139Gene-Girl&#226&#128&#139 will bring boundless joy, loyalty, and adventure into your life GENE is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550.   This adoption fee covers the cost of running a brick and mortar rescue as well as any transport, veterinary, food, treats, toys costs and the many expenses that rescues endure to keep the pets in their care safe, and happy.    Be sure to read all his information and if interested, go to the rescue website to submit an adoption application. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavors. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free! &#226&#128&#139You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 1-2 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then we can schedule your appointment to come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine for meet/greet/adopt Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. https://www.giveadogahome-rescue.org/forms/form?formid=5838 ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. Story
Christmas came and went and here I am, still waiting for a furever family. This January marked 2 WHOLE YEARS that I have been waiting for my happily ever after. Why doesn’t anyone pick me??   Yes, it’s true, I would prefer to be the only dog in my home, but other than that I am absolutely "pawfect"! There must be someone out there that just wants one super special dog to love. I absolutely love people, children, too! I am housetrained & crate trained (I love toys - my crate is filled with them), love car rides, love going for walks (I'm good on a leash!) but I also love to just chill out & relax. I'm all for a binge-watching marathon on Netflix! And I'm a very good sport if you want to put reindeer antlers on my head at holiday time! You can't say that about every dog!   I am about 3 years old and weigh 55 pounds. Here is the story of how I came to NorthStar. I was surrendered to a shelter in Texas, suffering from an injured paw. NorthStar saw that I needed help and after a few months of vet visits and surgery, my paw is as good as it gets!! I will never be a ballerina (perhaps clog dancing is more my style).  I am missing toes on my back paw, but that does not stop me! I am able to walk, run and play! I currently reside with two dogs. However, it would be best if I went to a home as the only pet. Although I am great with my foster siblings, I tend to react to other dogs negatively - I am not fond of kitties either. I know, I know! We all have vices and that is mine! Nobody’s perfect! I am in a GREAT foster home - my foster family love me so much but they also want to continue to help NorthStar Pet Rescue and dogs in need. If they adopt me, they can no longer foster. Got room in your house for a gal like me? I can have my bags packed in nothing flat!! If you are interested in meeting me, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for #TwoYearsAndCounting aka Trinity TX! May 30, 2023, 7:44 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Shenandoah but I go by “Sheni.” I’ve been a NorthStar Pet Rescue dog since they sprung me from a Texas shelter in February, 2022. I had puppies a few days later and my babies have all been adopted.  I’ve been getting ready for my forever home and learning all sorts of things in my NJ foster home.  I know my name well, I walk nicely on a leash, I sit for my bowl, and give paw. I am a very good listener, smart and willing to learn plus I am fully housebroken.  I love to give my belly and carry a ball in my mouth. I also love to snuggle with my people, give kisses, and follow them around. I am very curious and want to be included in everything they do.  I love all types of dog toys and dog beds.  I’ve also learned to be a part of a dog pack!  I’ve been living with three other dogs and I’ve been looking after all of them.  I’m the only female dog here so I make sure to play and cuddle with all my new boyfriends so no one feels left out.   Some might say that I’m a little nervous. My doggie friends helped me to quickly become comfortable in my foster home, however, if one of them doesn’t trust a situation I  will protect them and show off my strong bark. When my friends are calm, I am calm.     My confidence is becoming stronger but sometimes I still need encouragement to spend time in the yard. The sounds of nearby traffic are unpredictable and can be very scary but I do love playing chase with my friends and bringing toys outside to entice a game.  I also love it when the people throw a ball for me to fetch. Once I let my playful side take over I forget all about being scared!  Because I am a cautious  girl, I would really love a home with a confident canine companion to show me around and help me get settled in. I also really need people in my life that understand how important it is that I not be yelled at and who will allow me some time to build trust. It does not take long for me to fall in love with people but I need to be able to check them out and introduce myself on my own terms.  If you are looking for a best friend, search no further. I am as loyal and personable as they come and I’m ready for a forever home.  Shenandoah is about 4 years old and weighs 73 pounds. If you are interested in giving this beautiful girl a good home, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name, SHENANDOAH TX!May 30, 2023, 7:44 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Meet Hope, a beautiful girl in Texas who was confiscated because her owner kept her tied up outdoors. She is a 3-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix who weighs 55 pounds. Hope has had all her shots, was spayed and was negative for heartworm. She came into my care on the 10th of August in 2022.  Hope is dog friendly and loves people.  She is easy on a leash and loves to go on walks and car rides.  She is also crate trained. Hope is best buds with Champ one of my other rescues (Champ is also available - he's on the web site as XP Champ in Texas). She likes her dry food mixed with canned food.  She is a talker and she will tell you when she needs to potty.  Hope is currently housed in our horse barn with all our rescue dogs - she has a large run to play in and is let out to potty many times during the day. She is just an all around great dog! Hope is currently in Corpus Christi, Texas, but she can be transported north for the right adopter. If you have any questions or are seriously interested in adopting her, please contact Fur the Long Haul directly at furthelonghaulcc@gmail.com NOTE:  This pet is being shared by NorthStar Pet Rescue on behalf of another organization or individual and is not a NorthStar Pet Rescue dog. NorthStar cannot guarantee the accuracy of this listing, and any applications and inquiries about this pet made will be sent to the originator.  May 30, 2023, 7:44 pm
