Story
Pumpkin Collie / Retriever Mix (best guess) | Approx. 3 months old | ~20 lbs Pumpkin is a thoughtful, smart puppy who already shows excellent dog manners for her age. She plays well with adult dogs, responds appropriately to corrections, and adjusts her behavior without fear. She enjoys toys, carrying things around, and spending time both playing and relaxing. Based on her looks and temperament, Pumpkin appears to be a Collie / Retriever–type mix, possibly with some shepherd influence. She is expected to grow into a medium to large adult, approximately 50–65 lbs. Pumpkin is crate trained and settles well at bedtime. Potty training is still a work in progress, but she understands cues, responds to routines, and continues to improve. She is very food motivated, knows how to sit for treats, and is already learning “leave it.” Like most puppies her age, she mouths and explores, but she redirects well and wants to do what you ask. What really sets Pumpkin apart is how balanced she is for a young puppy. She is confident without being pushy, responsive without being anxious, and calmer than many puppies her age. She thinks before reacting, learns quickly, and shows strong social awareness with other dogs — all traits that typically translate into an easy, well-adjusted adult dog with continued structure and training. Pumpkin would do well in a home ready to continue basic training, provide consistency, and enjoy watching a smart, capable puppy grow into a great companion.

Cannoli is the biggest baby who loves nothing more than cuddles and belly rubs. He's full of energy and would do best in a place where he has room to run. He does have some anxiety but most of that is due to the lack of space.

Chickens&#44 horses&#44 cats&#44 dogs&#44 you name it -- Ive lived with them at one time or another when my former dad and I were together. My name is Socks&#44 and Im a super friendly&#44 fun&#44 and loving boy who needs a new home and family to love and protect. My dad didnt want to give me up - it just became too difficult for him to care for me any longer. He wrote so much about me and our life together that it could fill a book! Ill try to share the highlights with you&#44 ok?

I already know sit&#44 stay&#44 down&#44 fetch&#44 up (for dance/catch)&#44 come and shake. Through the years&#44 Ive been a good playmate to dogs and cats alike. I am so good with other animals because my introductions to these new friends have always been very deliberate and safe for all involved. When Ive met other dogs and gotten along well&#44 its because we respect each other and provide each other space. Ive met children before&#44 and they really adore me. I love attention and affection&#44 and I want to make friends with everyone I meet. Since Im a bigger guy&#44 Ive come to accept that not everyone wants to be fully loved on by 80 pounds of affection&#44 but I dont really understand why not!

I rest calmly and quietly in my crate. I will&#44 on occasion&#44 grab one of my toys and put it in your lap just for you to enjoy&#44 too! I love to be on the bed or the couch right next to you. If I get into burrs stuck in my fur when outside&#44 Ill come and ask you to brush those out of my beautiful&#44 silky coat. I love car rides and going to new places&#44 so please include me in your adventures! Im also a huge snuggle bug! I love to play&#44 and Im always very eager to please you. I will love you unconditionally&#44 and we will be fast friends.

I know that there are fewer homes that can adopt a larger-sized dog like me&#44 but I sure hope that if you CAN adopt me&#44 youll come to meet me. Ive made so many new friends already at the shelter&#44 and they are all enamored with me. I am so thankful that I get this chance to be your new best friend. Please give me the opportunity to show you just how wonderful I am. Come&#44 lets meet.

Love from Socks

Story
DOB: 12/7/19 Approx Weight: 38 Lbs, Adoption Fee: $200 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. Cody is a Border Collie/Australian Cattle dog mix and is almost five years old. A very loyal dog, he is also very smart, and he wants to please his people (he does have a goofy side too). He went through D.O.G. Obedience training in September, and knows sit, down, come, stay, place, and spin. He is housebroken, and also crate trained but is very good when left alone having the run of the house. Being a Border Collie mix, he is also very active and needs an owner to work/play with him often. He loves walks and gets along well with other dogs. However, he is anxious around new people and because of his anxiety, he tends to nip at new people. We had a behaviorist/trainer work with him a few months ago and she indicated that he is not aggressive and is adoptable. This is her recommendation: Cody - Nice dog! a little anxious but a super smart dog that wants to please, needs a strong confident home and handler that gives him clear and consistent direction. Having a consistent routine and a lot of constructive exercise will help with the built up energy that creates anxiety. Reading his body language and understanding what you are seeing is extremely important, stay calm, don’t yell, step in and redirect when you see ears forward, eyes making a hard stare and stiff body posture. Give a small verbal correction and move him to break the eye contact. Don’t let him give a hard stare! Ask people not to make direct eye contact, don’t move in on him fast, allow him to go to the people and the people not come at him directly and come over the top of him to pet, they can step to his side, allow him to sniff and get attention if he wants - respect the dog Work on teaching the “Look” command - make sure he is making contact with you when you mark and reward the behavior- if you need to lure him into looking at you, take the treat from his nose to yours- make a straight line - stand normal when doing this do not bend down to his level. Keep working on fun productive training sessions through the day to work him mentally Management of his behavior is a must, keep him on his leash whenever new people are around. I feel an activity where he can use mental and physical energy would be a great idea. He’s a very smart dog! He will need an experienced home that understands body language, is active and has the time and commitment level to put into his behavior for sure (emphasis added). His foster has been working on his anxiety and he’s met new people. After offering him a treat, they were able to pet him and he calmed down. One person even sat on the ground with him after petting him for several minutes and he loved it. I found this in an article about Border Collies: Border Collies are often praised for their intelligence and work ethic but are also incredibly sensitive to their surroundings and human emotions. These dogs form strong bonds with their owners and quickly pick up on emotional cues, making them responsive and intuitive companions. Border Collies can become stressed in chaotic environments, so they thrive in homes where they can enjoy structured activities and mental stimulation. He should have a fenced in backyard because he really likes to explore and run round. He would be a wonderful addition to a home where he can thrive and be active. Please, no homes with small children . Cody was adopted as a puppy from Furry Kids' Refuge and was returned for npping a family member. Due to the family having active children and a busy household he was returned. Cody has been neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested negative and vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient. You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!! Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/ for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
Hi friends! My name is Willy. I'm a border collie mix of sorts and quite handsome if I do say so myself. I'm a bit of a special dog, a real shy guy, but if someone would just give me a chance I will make a great companion. I love other dogs, as long as they're friendly, and I absolutely must go to a home with another friendly dog or two to show me I'm in a safe place. We all need some reassurance sometimes, right? I also need a fenced yard. Whoever my new owner is will need to be able to give me lots of time and space to feel comfortable with them. I'm a really good boy, I'm crate trained and house broken, but until I get used to you I'm gonna need you to keep your paws to yourself. I promise it's not personal, and you'll see I'm worth the wait! Willy is neutered, up to date on shots and microchipped. He's located at The Pet Connection Sanctuary in Beloit, KS, but transportation to the right home may be available. To learn more about Willy please contact The Pet Connection by call or text- 913-671-PETS (7387).

Story
Meet Koby! This sweet, loving boy came into our care right after he was born with his mama and all his siblings. He found a home for a while, but then was returned because they didn't have time for him. Koby is potty trained and loves to play with toys, especially fetch with his frisbee. He gets along with all people, including kids, and other dogs! One of his previous fosters even said he was good with cats, but it's been a while since he's seen one so he may need to be tried again. He doesn't get on furniture and is very well behaved - he comes when called, knows most commands, and doesn't run. His favorite snack is ice and he loves to ride in cars. He is also very good when getting his nails trimmed and has the softest fur. Koby is a Velcro dog who loves attention and will follow you everywhere. He would do best in a home with other dogs where his people would be home most of the time, he gets scared when left alone.

Meet Giblet! Gibby is a slow, sweet older man who is undergoing heartworm treatment and would desperately love to find a foster or furever home. Giblet loves to snuggle and go for walks, but he does struggle with stairs since he is an old man. He would love a bed to sleep next to his people all night long! He prefers dogs like him that are older and won't get too up in his business. Please consider giving this older gentleman a home, he has been waiting so patiently!
