Story
Hi, I'm Spencer! Since you're reading this, you're obviously looking for a new best friend- and, hey, so am I!!! I came to FMAR as a stray and my heartworm test was positive. I am so lucky that one of the FMAR volunteers fell in love with me and took me home with her while I was going through my heartworm treatment. I am done with that and am ready to find my forever home.I would love a quiet home with a patient owner who will allow me to come out of my shell at my own pace. I can get overexcited and loud when I see other dogs and cats and sometimes even people that I don't know. I would be happy to be the only pet in your home but if you have a quiet and passive dog, I might feel comfortable with them. I have a lot of love to give! If your have room in your heart and home for me, I'm waiting to meet you!If you would like to meet me, please submit an application for me on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. I am neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $250, which covers all of the medical care I have received.*Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. The adoption process may require multiple visits to the shelter before a dog can go home with you. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.

Story
Hi! I'm Bones!! I am a big boy who doesn’t understand his size or strength, but a lover!!! He’s living his best life playing, exploring and loving the humans taking care of him! The world is very new to him so he is learning. There are a lot of things that he is scared and unsure of. It takes time patience and reassurance.  His leash manners are not the best and most certainly a work in progress. He is a puller, but I know he will and can learn he just needs someone to show him patience and consistency. It is also going to be trial and error when it comes to what leash he will respond to best. We used a shorter slip lead leash we had at home the leash for the harness was way to long for him at this time. We found with the longer leash he was in control and could pull more during walks. This again will come in time with patience and consistence. We have been working on sitting and waiting as we go outdoors. He is very treat motivated and was able to hold a sit and stay until I released him. I have him sit and then put the leash on.  He also responded well to correction and redirection. We used no sir and come here and he responds to those very well. Bones is an amazing dog and I know with love, kindness, patience and consistency he will continue to grow and flourish and make a beautiful addition to his forever home. He only ever had 1 accident in the house and it was during the food change, but nothing since so I believe he just had an upset stomach. He’s a big dog who thinks he is a lap dog and just wants all the love and snuggles.  ##1970520##

Story
Ellie is a beautiful young girl that found her way to us after being found as a stray.  She is a girl with young dog energy, and loves playing with her dog brothers and sisters at the Ranch.  Squirrels get her attention and she loves to chase them, so best to have her in a fenced in yard.  Ellie finds enjoyment in all humans! Give her a lap and she will crawl right in for snuggles.  She has learned stay and is good about listening around open doors, and we know she could learn so much more as she loves to try new things and please her owners. While she can be a food thief on counters at times, she is working super hard about avoiding them temptation.  She is also used to being around little humans and does beautifully with them. Ellie is wonderful with other dogs, but we notice that high value treats are best given separately so no one gets jealous - which is something we advocate for all around.  She may prefer a brother, but meet and greets will best set her up for success. She is fully vaccinated, spayed and microchipped and on heartworm prevention. ##1807017##

Story
A few months back we pulled our incredibly scared but sweet, Nova, from the Romulus Animal Shelter. Nova had been spotted in the area and on the run for approx 3 months and was finally able to be trapped. We were able to pull her just a day before her set euthanasia, her time was up. Nova has come a long way, but is still very cautious of people. Add to this poor little lady's somewhat sad story....she is heartworm positive. She bonded at her foster's home with another dog, Sky, and was finally relaxing a little bit. Tragically, Sky passed away suddenly. Her foster mom gives her extra attention and reassures her that everything is okay. Nova is still going through her treatment, so she is looking for a foster/foster to adopt home. The cost of treatment is 100% covered by the rescue. We'd really like to find her a quiet home, possibly with someone retired, where there's not a lot of commotion but there's someone home often that could love on her all day long. She is incredibly scare of change and new environments, but is so sweet and will warm up quickly. Her current foster mom says she's committed to keeping her with her until she finds the perfect home. Is it you?
