Story
Meet Harley, the sweet old lady who somehow missed the memo about slowing down. She may have some silver on her whiskers, but she’s still got plenty of pep and enthusiasm for life. Harley is wiggly, happy, and always ready to go, whether that’s busting out of her kennel for a walk or greeting new people with a soft body and a waggy hello. She walks reasonably well on leash for her size, though excitement can turn into a bit of pulling when something interesting catches her eye.Harley is extremely food motivated, and I mean extremely. She came in on the thinner side and clearly hasn’t forgotten what it’s like to be hungry, so meals are a very serious affair. She eats fast and would absolutely benefit from a slow feeder, along with some thoughtful food management at home. While she didn’t show any signs of resource guarding in the shelter and was very comfortable with people nearby during meals, it’s recommended to use simple prevention strategies like trading up for higher-value treats and avoiding taking items directly from her. Harley is also a bit of a scavenger and has shown real talent for counter surfing, so keeping food out of reach and managing her environment will set her up for success. She’s gentle and tolerant with handling, happy to be petted, and fine with ears, mouth, and paws being checked. She seems to know “sit,” is much more interested in treats than toys, and will absolutely work for snacks and attention. With other dogs, Harley is calm, respectful, and friendly, happy to sniff, say hello, and then go about her business. She could live with a compatible dog or be just as content as a solo pup. Cats and kids are unknown, but dog-savvy introductions and respectful interactions would be important.Harley would likely do well in an apartment as long as she gets enough physical and mental outlets. She was surrendered through no fault of her own due to changes in her previous owner’s life, and she’s ready for a fresh start. If you’re looking for a loving, food-loving, spirited companion who will keep you on your toes and make you laugh, Harley just might be your girl.
